The one that I put on my paddle was never in the way when we 'yaked' yesterday. Got that idea from Pintrest. All is well that ends well! Thanks for your video and reply.
Nice video. Sorry if I missed it somewhere but I have a few questions. First what diameter is the larger aluminum tubing and what length did you cut it? Secondly, What was the finished length of your leash...and how far does it stretch out? Lastly do you know the ratio of number of feet of trimmer cord to length of finished product? Thanks for your help.
Hi thanks. The larger tube is 16mm and its cut to the length of the frying pan.The finished length on this one is around 30cm. I haven't tested it out to see how much it stretches but it's a lot, You never need to stretch it to the max. And it takes around 5m of nylon. You don't have to make them this big. I just like it that way so not to stretch them too much and deforme them. And can have them hooked to one side and move them around the kayak to different rod holders and it's no problem at all.
JTA Kayak Fishing perfect! I get that. This was a really good video and something I will definitely use (I lost a nice rod & reel jigging near a drilling platform). I don’t want to ever lose another one.
It may work as well. I think by boiling it gets heat in a more even way to all of the coil. with the heat gun you can run the risk of overheating some parts, deforming them. But give it a go and then tell me how it went.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea! I tried with very thin line (0.065") and the coil was very loose. I guess that you used a much thicker trimmer line? Also it's hard to find lines with a round cross-section. Does a different shape other than round work? Thank you so much!
Hi Jay L, thank you for your comments :D I really appreciate you taking the time :D The blue line that I have it's actually 0.0078" só the difference is not all that great. When you finish the 15 minutes of boiling the coil in the water, did you flip the coil like I do? Cause it gets a lot tighter when you flip it. I have seen those square lines but I have never tried them out. Maybe you can test that out tu see and get back to me. But you shouldn't have any problems getting the round ones in gardening stores. Have it a go and let me know :D
Thanks for the reply! I made another one today with 0.065" round line and it turned out to be considerably better. Maybe shape is one factor. What size of the aluminum crimps that you used for your 0.078" line? Amazon sells only two sizes (1/16" and 1/8") of crimps that are relevant. I will try to get some 0.095" line with 1/8" crimps to see what happens. Cheers
@@jayl24 Don't stress about the size of the crimps. As long as you can fit the line and after you crimp it, its secure. Thats fine. And the more you make them, the easier it will get and the better they will be.
I have thought about that, it would be faster and less messier. But never ended up trying. Did not want to take the chance of uncoiling the spring and it not being even considering its a big spring. But give it a go and let me know 😎
This is amazing and impressive. However, there is a Van Staal made leash for only 25 bucks. The cost of that 400 pound mono you used here is pretty high I would think so it's probably more efficient to buy the Van Staal leashes on ebay.
Hi Richard, thanks for the comments :D But actually the nylon costs around 3.5€ for 15m. And if i'm not mistaken, it's enough for 3 or 4 leaches. like the one I make, witch are pretty big.. . And the last for ever, I still use the same ones I made then. And it's something that you have made for yourself and that feels good also.
Ciao Alberto Romeo come stai? Se non sbaglio, è 6 mm o 8 mm, non ne sono del tutto sicuro. Ma ciò che conta è che c'è una differenza di dimensioni tra cose grandi (canne e reti) e cose più piccole (un coltello o una pinza). Abbraccio.
How do you discover it was 400 pound mono? I thought it was weed wacker cord. Yeah a comment or subtitles of some usefulness in the video would have been nice.
Hi thanks for your feedback. Where do I say it's a 400 pounds mono line? In fact the subtitles on the video, actually say that it's a weed cutter line. If you go to a gardening store, you will see them in several sizes, colors and shapes. If you actually seen the entire video, I feel there's no way you can make that assumption. So I don't get you question and your comment on having subtitles. But I guess that was something that you just had to say right. O well, give it a try you may like the result and be a little bit happier with your life.

What was the thinner tube for?
Hi, to make thinner leashes, for small things, like, knives, pliers and stuff like that.
JTA Kayak Fishing perfect! I get that. This was a really good video and something I will definitely use (I lost a nice rod & reel jigging near a drilling platform). I don’t want to ever lose another one.
@@brucemulvey9948 I lost 3 rods, with reels, line and lures, after flipping the kayak 2 times. Learned my lesson though :D
I would have thought some verbal communication as to a description would have been more helpful
Are you blind? he might be mute. Regardless of whatever language barrier there is, this person was pretty clear with his illustrations.
Can this be connected to a phone at work?
Why not, :)
just make sure the string isnt twisted type, it has to be round trimming line. just a heads up, learned the hard way
Thanks for the heads up. Never actually tried with those type of nylons but was actually wondering if it would work.
Great video! What if instead of boiling i use a hot air gun?
It may work as well. I think by boiling it gets heat in a more even way to all of the coil. with the heat gun you can run the risk of overheating some parts, deforming them.
But give it a go and then tell me how it went.
@@JTAKayakFishing ok so i tryed right now.. and yes is like you sad.the result is good but not perfect. There are few parts with a different curve
Basta chiedere that’s awesome. Thanks for giving us some feed back on the heat gun solution 🤙
What knife was that you had leashed to your yak?
Hi :D, That's just a scuba diver knife that I got for 10€. It's nothing special. But its going on for 3 years in saltwater environment and it's still kicking :D
@@JTAKayakFishing what knife is it though?
@@GrymmTymm1313 Sorry for the delay in my answer, I was trying to find it on the internet by picture, and I realised I could just see if the knife and anything written on it :D
It's the "smith&wesson H.R.T."
Hope it helps :D
Hi! Can you tell me what is the name of the material coiled ?
Hi, it's nylon thread used in weeds cutter machines. You can get them at home improvement and gardening stores.
Is it a certain brand that works best? I use Stihl string in my trimmer and it looks stiffer that what you were using.
Adam L Hi sorry for the delay on my answer, I didn't see the comment.
I have tried 2 different brands with the same results on both. I haven't tried that brand yet. Try another one that feels more soft or malleable to see if the end result will be diferent. Mine cost like 6€ for the pack. 👍😎
ive done this before. its very hard on your fingers. i would advise buying 10 pack on amazon for like $12
Hi, I've done 6 or 7 and I don't need anymore. And my hands are perfectly fine.
But thanks for your feedback.
If you can place the link for those leeches in the comments I would appreciate.
I think I might just have week joints lol
Here is the link to a 12 pack for $9.99

Is that a stainless steel rod or aluminium rod.
HOBIE KAYAK its an aluminum rod. It’s easier to get and cheaper also.
@@JTAKayakFishing Thank you for your help very much appreciated.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea! I tried with very thin line (0.065") and the coil was very loose. I guess that you used a much thicker trimmer line? Also it's hard to find lines with a round cross-section. Does a different shape other than round work? Thank you so much!
Hi Jay L, thank you for your comments :D I really appreciate you taking the time :D
The blue line that I have it's actually 0.0078" só the difference is not all that great.
Thats fine.
And the more you make them, the easier it will get and the better they will be.
спасибо буду делать.
Пожалуйста. Я надеюсь, что все работает хорошо.
только закончил делать все отлично. спасибо очень доволен!!!
я рад, что все прошло хорошо
Hy, will it work if instead of boil, just use the heat gun?
thanks
@@JTAKayakFishing good to know but I just found that Aftco makes one for 6 bucks. But I'm impressed with your ability to make your own.
@@hothmobile100 Give it a try, you'll see it's actually quite satisfying.
What Is the diameter of the bar on which you knotter the brushcutter line?..what diameter did you get of this?
Ciao Alberto Romeo come stai?
Se non sbaglio, è 6 mm o 8 mm, non ne sono del tutto sicuro.
Ma ciò che conta è che c'è una differenza di dimensioni tra cose grandi (canne e reti) e cose più piccole (un coltello o una pinza).
Abbraccio.
"Paracord" boom.... done in 30 seconds.
What ever works right :D
plutoplatters This is way cooler...
What is the green stuff???
Hi, it's nylon thread used in weeds cutter machines. You can get them at home improvement and gardening stores.
What is the diameter of the weedeater line?
Hi, It's 2mm and the bigger one it's 3mm.
Topdelinha vo tentar fazer blza
Obrigado, depois mostra como ficou 😜
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Gracias.
De nada, aún así que gustó. Espero que ayude.
6:56 comment s'appelle cette pièce en métal ?
Bonjour, je n'ai aucune idée du nom. C'est peut-être un anneau en aluminium, une quincaillerie doit avoir.

Needs to add comintery so we know what's happening if we want to go and get the stuff to do it ourselves
Did you even watched the video?? Because what you are saying kinda feels like you haven't.
Yeah, we all watched the video and listened to the shitty background "music"....
But most people want INSTRUCTIONS from a "how to" video, not fast forwarded half assed "look what I did" bullshit.
@@TheWingnut58 ...seriously? poke a couple holes in the ends of a stick, wrap the line around the stick with both ends secured in the stick, dip into boiling water for some time, create loops on the ends, heat shrink tubing for aesthetics, add clips, use to keep your shit outta the water....
@@theguywitheyebrows yes, seriously....the title says HOW TO and there was no instructions. And BTW, I've been making my own for decades....the title just sucks, so go FY....

Thanks for the feedback :D
Matt Fischer now that’s what u call handmade....quality at it best.
Thanks, at the very least it's more gratifying :D
Great, but missing MANY critical things that ALL DIY videos include and they are specifics, sizes, lengths, diameters, material types, tooling specifics, etc., etc. I appreciate all youtubers taking the time to record, post process and publish, but this is NOT a DIY video, it's a show-"off" and tell at very least.
@President Funny Valentine D4C common sense tell me you couldn't make the "identical" leash in the video if your life depended on it...why?...because like I said, he doesn't give any specifics, sometimes abbreviated "specs". I guess you never care to read specs in the index about products.
@@motleypixel You must not have any imagination or can't think for yourself. which is it ?? Choose one.
@@rustafar_2354 I "think" he left out elements that are fundamental to DIY videos; thus, it's not a DIY video. @russ peck can you not read my original reply or did you just jump to this conclusion w/o reading it?
Would be better if u actually explained the materials and process...
what more do you think i could have done?
How would you have explained the materials and the process?
Cause I'm thinking that I explained the nylon weed cutter, the metal tube, and the crimps. And I made an entire video showing how I did the process from start to finish. So I'm curious on what you would have done different.
What a bloody hassle
You might as well said you're lazy and don't know how to DIY. I fixed it for ya.
What's the green stuff?
weed cutter nylon.
