Part of the reason for cancelations is because Ebay shows buyers the same item being sold cheaper by another seller after they purchase your item !! Hardly Fair !!
Someone wanted a different address last week and I told them to cancel and repurchase. They did though, I was thankful. My biggest problem right now is the lowball offers! Good grief! $5 on a $19 item.
yessss we've experienced similar. we love getting offers and have no problem giving folks a discount but my god, when their offer is like $20 (or MORE) lower the listing, it blows our mind! like, come onnnnnn
I've had it done a few times from drop shippers from eBay...giving me Some BS excuse to send it to another address and don't put any invoices inside the package it's a gift...BS, it's drop shipping and I call them out on it..I don't sell to drop shippers because I know a fact, eBay won't have my back on it if they notice it..I cancel right away, with customer asked to cancel, I'm not going deal with that drama
I am NOT EVEN KIDDING...right as you said some people are giving up on hats...ch-ching! Sold a really cool Bridgestone bucket hat for $21!! What a fun councidence!!!! 😂
I have the same issue…I believe, sometimes, that it is other sellers buying and then making you realist so it can put their item higher in the algorithm.
kimberleerubba that's a fact but the real reason is when an order gets canceled the sellers store takes a big dump in the algo. same thing happens when a return is opened, seller gets thrown out of the algo and seller gets slow sales for 48 hrs then usually a good day in sales 1 to 2 days after that 48hr period of being in timeout. it's bs.. just like all the hopes & lopes sellers have to go through just to list their items & get eyes on the items your selling. just to turn around & give them 10-15% of the sale. that explains their profit for 2022. it was over 7,115,000,000BillionDollar$ & that was lower than the 2 previous years & let's not forget about Pierre Omidyar, best known as the founder and chairman of febay. has a net worth of $11.3 billion as of 2022 so probably over $12Billion now... probably made most of that nickel & dimming sellers with fees, while at the same time allowing sellers to get scammed by bad buyers.sickening...
Cancellation/offers craziness is just another indicator of Ebay performing as a messy manager of its business. This has been the case for a long time now. They need a total ruthless overhaul in some of the ones at the top.
Yes, I just started selling on ebay and when I'm doing research on items, I always get an offer to purchase that seller's item. I feel so bad when I have to decline so many offers because I know how it feels to get offers declined or ignored. I used to write an excuse for declining, but not anymore.
Love having my blacklight on my keys now. At a sale Friday morning there were people looking at a bunch of green glass and they didn't know which were depression era, and I was able to help them see which ones were legit.
Wish eBay would give us a separate option to do comps without letting several sellers send us offers. Seller research button or something. Safe mode search. It gets old.
I have to wonder if eBay showing buyers the same or similar item at a lower price after they've purchased could be the cause for the cancellations. Where address changes are concerned, if the buyer asks me to ship to a different address I tell them I need to cancel & relist and they can purchase the item with the corrected address in the order. I just don't have time or energy for the nonsense if something goes wonky because I shipped to an address other than the one on the order 😉
Just happened to me today! Got the “ding” of a sale on my phone , before I could write out the label, (moments later) they requested a cancellation .. I’ve sold on EBay for years, this never happened before. Was noticeably shocking because both actions happened so fast! Strange…
Speaking of cancellations- I’ve had 60 orders this past weekend. Everything is good & ready to ship on Tuesday, but this one camera (sold for $400), has had a cancellation request FOUR times in the past two days. Not sure what’s going on. It’s been all from separate buyers.
That's the issue I'm having with offers because now if you so much as dare to look at something you get an offer. Therefore, sending out offers seems worthless for the smalls I sell because it's going to people who were just curious and not interested in buying. I've just decided to pull everything and start over with volume goals instead of pricing goals.
I too was sent an offer on something I was comp'ing. I prefer to use my computer because I like to type with a keyboard. But I was on my phone when I replied to the offer. My fat fingers hit accept instead of decline.
I’ve had several return requests & cancellation requests in the past two months. I’ve only had one in the past year previous to this. The two return requests had asked for a refund, I told them I would send them a label to return the item. Both items were damaged when they were returned or opened. The cancellation request was already in transit. I told them they could open a return request once the item was delivered. Then they got it and they were happy with it? But yes, something is going on. I never do a refund without a returned item. If I get another return and the item is sent back in worse condition then shipped to the buyer I will be discussing with eBay going forward.
Yes I have done the same thing on Ebay as you did. I always make the customer cancel the order and purchase it with the correct address. I don't trust that it's not a scam.
That has happened to me also. I thought I got an offer, picture looked exactly like one of my pictures, I accepted. I did not get the cha-ching & go and check. Well, darn I bought it, I was a little confused, took a while to figure what I had done. Thank God the seller understood. 😊
Hi Kevin, I'm a big fan, subscriber, and follower of you, Dave, Pickin' and Punchin'' and the like. I have a question, and by no means a criticism, I'm always looking for knowledge which you have provided a lot to me. I have noticed that you and Dave specifically have mentioned that you have drafts in waiting to be listed, I always just list immediately my items when I create the listing, is there an advantage to wait and submit the drafts later? Also, I always list my items in auctions with best offers accepted and you folks seem to always list items "Buy it now". I have heard you and Dave numerous times mention that you might have listed the item too cheap because it sold immediately, with it as an auction you might have multiple bids like I do often. To be transparent, 100% of my listings used to be sports collectibles, now about 85%, because you and Dave and others have me branching out in other areas-thank you for the knowledge! Just wondering, I always want to learn! Sorry about the long message but I've been thinking about that for awhile. Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work! Take care, Joe Sikorski
I had a lady tell me her address was wrong after she ordered. I told her to correct her address and we would cancel the order and she could reorder since the label will print out the address on the account. Once I canceled I never heard from her again. 😝 People are so silly! UPDATE! Just learned you can change customers address without cancelling order! LOVE this community!
I don’t know why EBay’s algorithm does that. When I am listing an item, I look at others items for sale comps as well. Makes me wonder when I send an offer to a potential buyer, if that’s someone looking at my item to list their item?🤷♂️ so when I am doing a listing on an item, I go to “sold” items and comp off that.
The newest scam is ordering and waiting till the label is printed and buyer thinks it has shipped then they cancel. Most scammers know that the seller will just refund and say keep the item because of the return hassel.
eBay recently changed their settings where you can very easily accidentally hit “buy everything in cart” if multiple items are in your cart vs just purchasing from the seller you want to buy from. That’s most likely why the cancellations are happening. 🙃
I feel the same way about the address changes, I don’t always forget to change it but the times that I have, I have felt like an idiot and had to eat the loss. Now I usually request that they cancel and re purchase.
As a matter of fact I had to cancel a leather jacket that you had listed because I thought you were purchasing it from me. I was very embarrassed, so I’m glad to know you’ve done it too.
I've been getting a lot of offers and then retracted almost immediately today. I then have a couple orders cancelled due to Amazon having better pricing. One of the orders was cancelled right away. Though, I sell used electronics and I'm way lower than the brand new stuff on Amazon. I just congratulate them for finding a better price and hope they enjoy their new stuff.
We seriously need a commonwealth history RUclips channel! I got a cancellation today. I’ve done that before- accepting an offer when I thought I was getting one.
Oh my gosh, yes! I forget to change the address sometimes too! I've decided, unless I'm willing to get up and go print the label right at that moment, I will not change the address for the customer.
I found an Aitken Bible at a thrift store a few months ago. I had never heard of it, but turned out to be worth a decent amount. I've probably had more returns the past 2-3 months than I have since I started on eBay in 2007 combined.
I've made that same mistake, prob twice myself. Having to cancel orders I've accidently made due to me comping and thinking that I'm getting an offer, not me receiving an offer. Had to start double checking from those mistakes. I also spent my senior year half work, half school, on a work program. I worked for a newspaper, so the first half was work.
I’ve had 3 cancelled orders in the past year. Only one of them since eBay added the east to request cancel button for the buyer right on the order. I’ve had an increase of messages with low ball offers with a sympathy story though lol.
I’ve had a couple recently. They read the title, check purchase, then read the entire description and realize the purchase is for 1 instead of the multiples clearly stated in the description
I’ve accepted twice also in the past and had to cancel Beware of Mercari though. I cancelled an order and the seller still shipped it out the next day. After I received it tried to do a return and Mercari denied it. So I’m stuck with the item till I it sells on eBay lol I’m sending out a package for Turner tomorrow, something he likes. Keep up the great content!!
I did that once, I was research an item I had. I then listed it. then I noticed an offer come through and I thought it was on my item, but it was another seller. I had to cancel it. Luckily the seller understood for they had did the same thing too.
I just had that happen this week -- a seller offering MY item to me...fortunately, it was a low offer that I was going to reject anyway...but it took me a while to realize it was a SELLER's offer! Strange.
5:10 minutes in. YES. That has happened to me as well. I am trying to CLEAR my searches as quick as possible because, yes, I often get offers now on items I am just looking up - I haven't added a "watch' to the item. Lowball offers right now are on the increase. I had a $5 offer on a $45 item for example (there have been several lowball offers on items I have in my store). I checked to see if I was all of a sudden way off on my pricing. Nope. And, I recently had a run of bad buyers - blocked a dozen or so? That's a first to have so many - now, its behind me though. Been on eBay since 1998.
eBay has a great new idea they've implemented. When you check out and pay a pop up comes on and offers you an additional item you just can't live without. If you aren't careful you just might buy it.
I, too, accidentally accepted offers thinking they were from buyers! And, I’ve had several cancellations saying they were selling a similar item and thought I was sending an offer to buy it. Very confusing!
I've never heard a thing about Ebay protecting you now if you go ahead and ship to a different address other than the one a buyer has on file when they pay. How many times have you or anyone done this and it was NOT an issue if the buyer claims "not received" because I can't believe it wouldn't be just because the buyer asks in a message?
I believe some of the cancellations are from ebay showing buyers similar items after making the purchase. Some of those similar items shown is the exact item from another seller with a cheaper price.
I have not had multiple cancellations (knock on wood), but I am really fed up with all of the seller offers just because I looked something up to get a comp. Some things I add to my watch list to help create my own listing, but others I get just because I did a search on a UPC. That is becoming super annoying.
The craziest return I had was the buyer complained that a bobble head doll's head wasn't straight. It was a little crocked. The buy just said it was damaged I asked for pics he said he wasn't home and it would be a few days. So as a newbie I went on and sent him a refund and told him to keep it. It wasn't worth the return shipping for me. It was insured but with it just being the head leaning a bit to one side I couldn't claim the Post Office damaged it.
Hello good morning. Yes I have accepted an offer from a seller... also you can change the buyers address in the purchase label section but only on a computer, not on the app
@onemanstrash8233 sure.... go to orders waiting shipment / get label/ slide to the right / order details scroll down to Shio to... edit/print/copy click edit . Add the new address
Hey Kevin I've had to cancel a couple of times myself for the same reasons 😹 speaking of hats yes they're very slow sellers but I feel your pain I've got over 22 boxes of hats listed probably 15 to 20 hats per box 😹
I've almost accepted a seller's offer thinking it was a buyer. I am so careful now! I also found yesterday to delete my viewed items after I'm searching for comps. I want to see if that helps the incoming offers from sellers.
eBay told me to ship it since they asked in the message board. And if anything comes up or an issue let the rep know to check messages. So I just do it now and thus far never had an issue.
I had one that asked me to cancel the sale because she had the wrong address on file with eBay and couldn't figure out how to change it after she committed to the purchase. I did cancel it for her and she came back a few minutes later and bought a more expensive version of what she originally bought.......
Just want you to know that you are my very favorite eBay videos always.I.have been selling a lot of 10.00 items that actually are free to me.Friends tell me it is a silly thing and no money to be made.Could you please tell me if I sell for 10.00 and they pay shipping of 5.00 ,What is my profit.Thank you so very much.Keep on selling and teaching. You are very much appreciated, and I will be showing your answer to friends.
I cancelled 2 items I purchased but let me explain. I was using the ebay quarterly coupon to purchase shipping supplies. I bought the 2 items but ebay didn't apply the coupon. I cancelled the purchases, explained to the sellers why, then repurchased the items being successfully with using the ebay coupon this time.
I don't count address as a cancel. I did one this week they had HI and moved to AL. Just the savings in shipping for them was worth the cancel and reorder. My wtf today is the $30 offer on a $150 item.
That happened to me just last week! A buyer messaged asking if I would take an offer on an item. I responded by editing the listing so that they could make an offer. Then a few days later they messaged me back again, "Hi. Would you mind sending me an offer? For some reason it keeps glitching [misspelled] and won't let me make an offer." But they included a link for *me* to "make an offer" on MY item, in their message. Fortunately I was able to figure out that, had I clicked on it, I would have BOUGHT MY OWN ITEM presumably from THEM. Huh?! How does that happen? So instead I directly made an offer to them from my end with the price I was willing to take for it, and they accepted. They had me ship it to a different address though, not even the same state. Now I'm just waiting to see if anything else crazy happens with this buyer.
Oh I've definitely accepted offers thinking they wanted to buy it. I've done that more times than I'd like to admit. :) I haven't done it in awhile. (Knock on wood)
Had my first negative feedback due to a cancelation. Vendoo didn't delist my item that sold on mercari and then it sold on ebay a few days. I just paused my Vendoo due to this reason!
I've had three sales fall through in the last two weeks. One I'm sure was because of eBay's "buy it cheaper from this guy" nonsense. One was from a buyer who accepted an offer and immediately changed their mind and went nuts sending me messages every few minutes in the middle of the night to get it cancelled. The third wasn't technically a cancellation, but someone who never paid on an accepted offer.
I finall quit ebay all together ,reason sellers ship USPS and then it gets lost and i get screwed used to buy about 3 for hundred a week for my machine shop .
Just had one this morning, a lot of vintage hot wheels (14 and change) buyer claimed didn’t realize a car had paint on it?!? Instantly accept and am I the only one that blocks buyers instantly?? Buyers that you can feel the vibe are full of it.
Whats pissed me off with ebay lately is when you win bid its not giving you the usual 4-5 days to pay its making you pay within 1 hour ive completely stopped bidding on ebay lots because of it sometimes you may need that extra day or two everyones situation is different.......and yes i have always paid for every single auction i win so i know thats not the problem
Oh, my God, I did the same thing to the same item twice. I was selling a decretive skull (Halloween item) and it turns out that this other seller stole my photos and put it on there item and when I saw they took my photos I was looking at their listings a few times. Well that seller sent me an offer and I thought someone was buying my item and so I accepted the offer and it turns out that they were sending me an offer on their item and had to ask them to cancel it and it not only happen once with this seller but it happened twice with this seller.
Part of the reason for cancelations is because Ebay shows buyers the same item being sold cheaper by another seller after they purchase your item !! Hardly Fair !!
I actually really appreciate your history lessons and will gladly listen to more! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. 😊
Yes, has happened to me a couple of times. Stopped once I turned off best offers.
10:26 I appreciate your history lessons as I was not listening in school! Lol 63 yr old female here! Thanks for all you do!
I think these cancelations happens because after the buyer purchased the item they get shown same items from different sellers with cheaper prices!
Someone wanted a different address last week and I told them to cancel and repurchase. They did though, I was thankful.
My biggest problem right now is the lowball offers! Good grief! $5 on a $19 item.
Same!
In my experience, the lowest of low ball offers are made by other sellers. 🙄
yessss we've experienced similar. we love getting offers and have no problem giving folks a discount but my god, when their offer is like $20 (or MORE) lower the listing, it blows our mind! like, come onnnnnn
Only lowball offers I get is from other sellers
@@reselldaddy4782 Same here.
Yes happens all the time drives me crazy sending me a offer of something i was comping
Same!!! So frustrating!
Multiple times a day!
Hate it! I've done it. You are not alone.
Yep that’s happened to me when I wasn’t paying attention and thinking they were offers on my items
Your history never bores me Kevin🎉💜❤♥️🇺🇸💪🇺🇸♥️🙏😇🌏
ebay needs a new website team. ive been on ebay since 2017 and my impressions/view count the last month has never been as low as it has been.
I have the same issue…I believe, sometimes, that it is other sellers buying and then making you realist so it can put their item higher in the algorithm.

Personally, I like the history lessons intertwined with the sales!
The exact same thing happened to me on my first few listings! The seller was very nice and understood! 😂

I did exactly the same thing and canceled the order the seller was very nice about it. Almost did it again yesterday!!

I have gotten offers for items I only looked at to check the price. I almost clicked to buy. Now I know to verify.
I had two cancellations this week out of 40 sales. They both told me the found a better price.
Have a GREAT time in Florida sourcing !!!! I know it's probably an impossible task but try to straighten out Dave a little 😂 !!!
I believe some of the cancellations are from ebay showing buyers similar items after making the purchase. Some of those similar items shown is the exact item from another seller with a cheaper price.
I have accepted a seller offer by mistake before, but now the notification looks different, so, it is easy to avoid.
YES... Ebay has bn super buggy lately. The post office also. 2 items returned with no address found
I cashiered at an AM/PM in Salem, Oregon for several years about 30 or so years ago.
I almost have made that mistake. It’s stupid to send a non watcher an offer. Yet we have no way of knowing. Argh 😮
Yes I thought I was getting an offer on my product but they were offering a discount to me😮
That means you are clicking on active listings. If you are comping items you dont really need to click on them.
I have not had multiple cancellations (knock on wood), but I am really fed up with all of the seller offers just because I looked something up to get a comp. Some things I add to my watch list to help create my own listing, but others I get just because I did a search on a UPC.
That is becoming super annoying.
I have did it. I finally learned to watch for that. Lol.
I have done the same thing, thinking I was accepting a buyer's offer rather than a seller's offer.
I did! I felt so bad lol because i know disappointing it is when you didn’t actually make a sale (on the sellers part). I to had to cancel the sale
Hello good morning. Yes I have accepted an offer from a seller... also you can change the buyers address in the purchase label section but only on a computer, not on the app
Am I understanding… you can change the customer address on the computer? I am not seeing where to do that. Can you point me to it?
@onemanstrash8233 sure.... go to orders waiting shipment / get label/ slide to the right / order details scroll down to Shio to... edit/print/copy click edit . Add the new address
@ Thank you so so much!
Depends on how much shipping costs you. If it’s less than five profit on a free item should be around 8
Kevin I have done the same thing. Someone sent me a comp and I thought bought it and I hit accept offer. But it was an offer for me to buy it. 🤦♀️
I don't count address as a cancel. I did one this week they had HI and moved to AL. Just the savings in shipping for them was worth the cancel and reorder.
My wtf today is the $30 offer on a $150 item.
I have had more cancellations in the last couple weeks than ever before! 😡
No cancelation however first package of over 600 ive sent thats gotten there broken. So it's getting returned. But making sales.
Only ship to the address that is on their eBay account. Cancel the order and make them purchase it again after updating their address.
Oh I've definitely accepted offers thinking they wanted to buy it. I've done that more times than I'd like to admit. :) I haven't done it in awhile. (Knock on wood)
I just checked to make sure the sale I accepted wasn't to myself😆
I've made the "offer" mistake multiple times, haven't done it in quite a while thankfully.
I cancelled 2 orders and now have a below standard rating. 😢
I hate that ebay is causing this nightmare. I do not want these Offers to show up on my site. It's extremely annoying
Ebay needs to scan emails as people messaging you 5 dollars on a 50 dollar item. It's getting ridiculous.
Just had one this morning, a lot of vintage hot wheels (14 and change) buyer claimed didn’t realize a car had paint on it?!? Instantly accept and am I the only one that blocks buyers instantly?? Buyers that you can feel the vibe are full of it.
Oh yeah, I’ve bought twice by accident from other sellers!!
