That's why we should maintain adequate hydration of our pets. Urolithiasis is a problem especially in older 🐱.

Can you tell me what you would proceed with if the cath goes 2½inches and stops? The blockage is up much further than the tip and a PU doesn't seem to be a viable option at this point. This is a 5yr old tom who also has not eaten or drank for a week now, despite hospitalization. When the cath is removed he cannot urinate on his own (not a drop) and we had much trouble (almost impossible) getting the cath back in. It gave lots of trouble on both occasions. And he is spitting the metrogel out! What alternative are there to save this blocked Tom?

To be clear, euthanasia is an absolute LAST DITCH SOLUTION (as to be expected)

I'm not a veterinarian, but at the vet clinic I work at we encounter this problem quite a bit. A possiblity is that the bladder has stretched enough to where he has no control over his bladder anymore. It all depends on how big the bladder was before you emptied it.

Oh no! Today it was the size of a navel orange. I squeezed to relieve it but did not empty it. Is euthinization called for when they lose control of the bladder?💔😭😿

@@michelleparks4582 Again I am not a veterinarian and we havent had a case that far along. With the amount of pain the cat is experiencing, I'd say it's an option. Especially if he cant control the bladder...

@@gavinfleck1315 I know you're not, but you know more than I do on this! Idw make the decision to put my car down but I may have to. He cannot go without a catheter. It has to come out in about 30 hours then if he reckons, it's a PU surgery that costs thousands! Then if that doesn't work, he will have to be put down. Praying he will be ok. I'm a wreck over the possibility of losing him.
