Heartbroken that I will never meet Nando's the Magnificent (and brave) or Mama Hen... so sorry for your loss, Ken and Gina! Such a heavy punishment ... live and learn xxx
As chicken owners, you have our sympathy! The vultures in the Video are Eurasian Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus not Black Vulture. Awesome to have these in the air above the farm!
As farmers you can try your hardest to keep predators away but it does happen. I’ve had my chickens killed while inside an electric fence. They found a spot to get it, in the middle of the night. It’s sad. You guys are doing great though in such a short amount of time.
Really sorry for ur loss. Maybe fixing the fence or leaving the dogs outside would be nice. Totally right for the chicken to leave free range. Things happen, we live, we learn and make mistakes so... Hugs. Take care.
You are very brave to admit to the loss of the chickens on your vlog - we feel for them and you. And your wife has managed amazingly with her broken leg - go slow and heal well. You both do a great job on your farm. I enjoy your endeavours. Keep healthy. From Brisbane Australia.
Oh no! so sad, it does happen I know. I am so sorry about your chickens. I love your gatherings with Theo so much fun to watch. Happy to see Gina driving and getting around again.
Gina...so glad you're getting around more and healing up! So sorry about your chickens..so sad. And your pool is so awesome! Love the color too! Peace and good health to you both!
Braai!.. I am so happy to hear the word. I lived in South Africa for 25 Years. Thank u for sharing your video's. I stard to watch your videos because " Indies Project's" Theo and Bee. So sorry for chickens, farm life is like that. Keep Well Gina. Be safe .
Thanks for your videos, I’m based southwest UK and been my dream to get land in Portugal and get my kids back in touch with nature and a different outlook from this city life ! And after this year I need to make this happen ASAP , thanks for your great insight
So cool on the 10,000 subscribers ! 👏 congratulations. Just an FYI Ken & Gina you two really have the best channel for Portugal life. I really love the ins and outs of the daily life you two share🥰🌻🧜♀️
They need a Fence and protection! The poor guy who was beat up needed medical attention! Now they know they are there they will always be in Danger .....Sad but you need to be on Guard for them, You are their protectors~
Sad about the chickens😢 glad Gina is healing nicely and with time she will be all good. Love that you and Theo and Indie Projects have connected, loving watching the friendship, watching from South Africa🇿🇦. Joaquin is the best!
Hi guys, glad to see Gina walking again, and sorry for your avian loss! But like anything else in life, we can only learn and move on. All the best and greetings from Toronto 🇨🇦 😊
So sorry for your loss. I think when you're out and about and dogs are locked in . Perhaps, your chickens could have temporary shelter. a coop. Love what you do. Again, so sorry
I’m sorry about your sweet chickens. I hope Gina’s leg is ok. The shock of trying to find any surviving chicken, she was walking on it a lot. It’s all a shock.
Congratulations on your growth. It is wonderful to see how you are moving along. R.I.P. Nandos - sorry for your loss. Farming is not Disneyland. All part of the cycle of life. Cheers!
Sorry for your loss of fowl, they were magnificent. I just would like to point out that in my experience, it was more likely to be stray dogs or neighbor´s pets that caused that type of damage. Great video.
On this area (Fundão/Castelo Branco), like in most of inland Portugal, there's a lot of predatory species able do to do this kind of attack (fox, ferret, marten, iberian mongoose, genet, weasel, etc.). Stray and neighbor's dogs will give you signs before they attack.
OMG! Life lessons are so hard sometimes. No one needs to throw stones. You take care of your chickens really well. It was out of your hands what predator animals do. Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers! 🎉🎆🎇🎊 YEAH! 👍 ❤ &🙏 🙋
I think the one thing I would like anyone reading to know is that chickens are lovely little characters who are like little children - defenseless against predators! It is up to us (the grown ups) to look after them and supervise their safety. We can't just leave small children to roam the countryside freely and then say "oh well, never mind - it couldn't be helped'" when those children get taken or killed. Like children, chickens can't fight back and they need our protection to give them a good quality of life. Their lives count too!
Would you consider reducing the number of predators with hunting pest controller with air rifles and night sights. It works for rats and foxes in the UK plus pigeons and daises in the Cape
@@jan1917 CHickens live in the wild too and they fly and roosters attack predators as best they can, but it is the cycle of life and it's always going to be a choice between the risks of predators against the freedom of free range. Adult chickens are not like little children an dtheir lives deserve respect absolutely. Which is why having them as free as possible is a good thing. I'm sure Ken and Gina will learn and not have this unfortunate coincidence of events again. But that is what it was, unfortunate, not willing neglect. First time to see your channel. I like it so far :) Not sure why you do not get more hits. Your filming skills are as good as indie and ourportugal and up there with some of the American channels. Good luck with your farm!
Hi Ken and Gina, sorry about the chickens, don't worry about the trolls as you said in the video its normal part farm life. If ok tho try look into movable electric fencing that you could use just while your away from the farm. Um Premier one fencing is a good one to look at, they are based in the US but they do ship round the world
So sorry for your loss.....I know how you must feel as I lost all mine about 6 years ago. Built a Fort Knox and 10 hens and 1 cockerel. Have 1 left as rest died naturally.
Sorry about your chickens. Please don’t be worrying about what people think. Somethings just happen unexpectedly. Hope Gina’s better and you guys are well!
I’m sorry about you chickens please don’t be hard on yourselves it happens You can’t do much more than your doing Loved your video nice to see Gena moving around more 😁

Oh no! Not Nandos and mama hen.😢 I’m so sorry for your loss. What a devastating coincidence, Bea and Theo lost their cockerel in recent days as well. 😢
Hi Guys... Great to see Gina improving and gutting the chickens had been mortally wounded thank goodness you have some survivors! I had 80 running free range that got decimated by a fox and the carnage was strewn all over the field, I recall how upsetting it was so know what you've been through and my heart goes out to you ❤️ ... To recover my situation I used electric fencing and although not attractive I never had another fox attack. It really is part and parcel of country life and you just need to do your best to cope with the heartache.
So sorry to see you lost the chickens.... We had it once also (by a bird of prey). And ofcourse it is nature, but that doesn't mean it is not sad...... At least the chickens and big Nando had a great live with you on the farm, it is is a bit of comfort... Glad to see Gina is recovering so quickly and so well.👍🏼 And your 'notswimmingpool' looks fabulous! That must be great in the warm/hot days. Enjoy! Greetings Marjan. 🌷
what a great life you have guys, here in Holland we still need to be indoors because of the weather, its far to cold. Love the pool. Hope to join you in Porugal as soon as i can, i want to live in that environment.
Sorry for the chickens but that is part of farm life please don't beat yourselves up but just replace the chickens and move on. Please remember livestock are not pets. Yes they must be cared for but they are there for your needs. The predator that took your chickens is only looking after its needs. Giving farm stock names only makes things more difficult when this happens. Again sorry for your loss it is hard to take
So you live near pine tree forest and you lit up the wood with a Petroleum based fire starter ??? pine tree leaves and pines are very good for lightning fires, please try it ok
So sad. They may have been farm animals, but you also knew them as individuals. Stay strong. What a run of bad luck you are having lately. It can only get better when it has gone bad. Prayers to you both.
this happened to my sisters place in Wales. Fox killed about 6 of them but there was one that was still alive. it had bite marks on it a was covered in blood. Some scrap rolled steel channel a electric drill, and a welder would make it possible. Best of luck and thank you for your entertainment.
Hi guys, sorry to hear about the chickens. But with regards to your vegetable garden, did you ever consider raised garden beds... should make life a lot easier. Inspiration can be found on the RUclips channel of Mark at self sufficient me
Thanks Roland, yes that's a great youtube channel. Raised beds get a lot drier as the moisture wicks out the bottom and the metal sides would probably heat up a lot in the mid summer heat. We have lots of space here to plant on. I just bought a rotavator so i will get working on preparing the beds and planting up this week. The veg patch was great last year so hopefully itll be the same this season :)

Theo would surely come to your aid with the garden preparation, with his mini tractor with an adaption of the multi point hitch to pull a rudimentary single point plough.
Some scrap rolled steel channel a electric drill, and a welder would make it possible.
Best of luck and thank you for your entertainment.
Thank you ❤️🙏
Good video, real life
Hi guys, sorry to hear about the chickens.
How did she break her leg...please tell her to be careful next time.
A couple of episodes back she was stepping out of our campervan and missed the step! Poor thing
In Ireland we have a widespread Mink population which kill just for the sake of it...Pool looks amazing in that blue and great for Ginas recovery process...Will grab some of those T-shirts...10k subscribers Parabens Gente.!!
Thank you Guy 🙏❤️

So sorry for your chickens 💔 but it's not U guys fault it happens.
Nice to see Gina almost back to normal ☺️ enjoy the sunshine and the pool 🌞 here in Canada the weather still cool around 12 but will get better soon. I hope ☺️
Obrigado Ana. I hope the glorious summer sunshine arrives for you soon ☀️❤️🙏
Was it a fox , repousa in portuguese ?
That'll be "raposa" and not "repousa" which is 3rd person, singular, present tense of the verb "repousar" which means "to rest". Ex. Ele; Ela repousa (He; She; It rests).
@@sirius_li thanks for your usefull correction
I think it was a mongoose. Very small bite marks in the neck areas
Well guys I've finally caught up to present day. So sad to hear about your chickens and poor Nandos, he was a beauty.
