Great content. Up here in QLD I have my own challenges and covered this in the first ten of my vids to date since commencing the layout some ….3-4 years ago I have not had to clean it at all even the tracks have only had one clean in the initial run as the top part nears completion and the final drilling goes into place for fiddle years the room will get one more solid clean since construction but for me it’s a biannual tickle with the brush attachment on the Hoover which of course us it’s exhaust sent some 25 m outside to ensure I’m not recycling the same dust particles. It was the plan from the get go sure I could have had a dream three level 20x10m layout in the shed or 35x20m in the attic but the cost and cleaning ensure just build a small room I can control and seal it up never looked back for me the biggest thing is forcing myself to run all locos every 12months to keep them operational hopefully when that fiddle yard is completed, and I can get a bit more of a routine on running the trains on a more bi monthly basis. It should create a bit more usage and enjoyment, and everything should be ticketee-boo. I take my hat off to those people running museum, layouts, and that where the trains just run nonstop every single day I’d love to get one of those digital odometers being pulled behind one of the locomotives on the Whyalla museum layout in SA. Stay safe see you in the next one.
I use the electronic cleaner in green can from Jaycar . Spray on cotton cloth and wipe track. Great for wheels as well. I also have a can of air I picked up from Office Works.
Thanks for the advice, I'm designing and building my model railway and these tips are really helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
This was very helpful. Thanks a lot
Good tips, some locomotives have plastic wheels, and some operating wagons have special wheels made specifically for them that are plastic.
Yes, some do, but metal wheels on wagons and rolling stock are preferable.
All great tips ! It's these little, helpful tips, gained thru experience, that make this hobby more enjoyable. Thank you sir !

Yes, we built our own, mostly from UK designs, except for our 59 class, which was Baldwin US.
Nice 👍

I’ve heard bay leaves are excellent for pest control… there’s a few YT videos on formulas, and so many comments saying it works. Worth a try I suppose

Depends on the need. Very little actually!
