    I live in South Alabama, heat and humidity are an everyday occurrence. Love, Love linen. Thanks for the tips on the care. I am in the process of making baby bedding for my future granddaughter. I have a whole set. Fitted sheets pillowcases and quilt cover 😍😍 get so soft after washing multiple times and drying
    Also bicarb soda helps with making linen softer

      They should shrink only once, but remember that linen relaxes with wearing. Try to avoid dry heat, it is better for the fabric and means fewer wrinkles. I make a linen spray with half water, half vodka plus a few drops of lavender essential oil, it helps!

    Add the detergent to the water and let it dissolve before adding the fabric: in other words, don't put fabric into the washer, add detergent then start the water. Front loaders dilute detergent automatically.

    • @seasuscipe

      I have the most basic top-loading Sears washing machine, which does a beautiful job, and I dry on a rack indoor, sometimes finishing off with a few minutes in my Sears dryer to soften the linen, which can dry quite stiff. I always use a cold wash, usually a nine minute cycle, and I presoak by simply leaving the lid open, the great advantage of a toploader!

    • @seasuscipe
      @seasuscipe Год назад

      Not at all Laura. Try rinsing it in water, then if you line dry, give it a final few minutes in the tumble dryer. If you machine dry it, take it out while it is still very slightly damp, and lay it flat to finish drying. You should find it is soft, with a gentle texture.

    Tricia how do I remove the greasy/waxy yellow stains on linen pillow cases?

    • @seasuscipe

      Boil them! Use very little detergent to avoid boiling over, and simmer for about 30 minutes, finish with a normal wash. For some reason the boiling always smells terrible.

      Yes! That’s what my mom used to do back in Ukraine- put white sheets into huge pot, little bit of soap and simmer them. Smell was horrible, but sheets were bright white. Have no energy to do it here in US, found out that presoaking pillowcases with rubbed in laundry soap works very well too. Leave them in water for an hr, then start washer.

    In future you can either use laundry sheets, which I prefer, or dilute the detergent in a jug with water before pouring it in, not the easiest thing to do in a Laundrette. I'm afraid that once fabric is bleached like this there is nothing you can do to remedy it.

  • @KittenBowl1
    @KittenBowl1 Год назад

    The particular fine print on the detergent jug you pointed out isn’t referring to anything about dissolving detergent completely, it’s referring to the colorfastness. Unless you are using powder soap and cold water which doesn’t dissolve the powder soap based wash (not detergent), these days most detergent and especially delicate wash detergent dissolved just fine. I didn’t understand why you’re referring to the colorfastness to test it first and nothing there was pointing out about dissolving detergent… Had to rewind it as it didn’t make sense. And it still didn’t make sense.

    Iv bought some thrifted linen clothes that have gone hard. How does one soften them back up ?

    • @seasuscipe
      @seasuscipe 3 месяца назад

      If they are tailored they will need to be dry cleaned, otherwise wash them in cold water with very little detergent, because part of the problem might be old detergent still stuck in the fibers. You might notice if the water is very foamy.
      Hang them to dry, with about 10 minutes tumble drying to finish off, while they are still a little damp. Take them out of the tumble dryer immediately and see how they look.
      Good luck!

    If linen is that durable why does it have to be air dried? I smell bs

    • @seasuscipe
      @seasuscipe 3 года назад +6

      Linen doesn't HAVE to be air dried, I just do it when I can because it makes me feel connected. Dry heat makes linen brittle (good excuse to get out of ironing) and over-drying bakes wrinkles in to the fabric, so I avoid both.

    • @SuperLuckao
