Seeing this makes me happy that all artists started off as noobs at one point. As a beginner who is drawing around 6-8 hours everyday during the quarantine, gives me hope that one day I will become a professional like you and others in the industry.
I started watching Sketch Book Tour 7 and then stopped and came back to the beginning to get the whole evolution. I respect the hell out of you exposing your sketchbooks like this. Scary to put this kind of unfinished work out there. But I appreciate it.
This is the bravest shit I've ever seen. I'd burn some of my old sketchbooks rather than let someone see them. Thanks for being so generous and vulnerable with your fans.
Three years late to the party, but that’s not the point! The point is, Judas redeeming himself, especially after what you did with Do A Powerbomb, would be amazing.
This was amazing. I loved every second.Thank you! IDEA: A one shot with Judas (IN FLANNEL + Full spec ops gear) called "Love is Coming to Town" where he liberates a town overrun by demons with a BFG esque gun he calls "Love"...could even have a Scott McKnight cameo.
Volume 1 is really not that embarrassing at all. Reminds me of many artists getting that early start -- learning from their favorites, sketching all the time, and figuring things out. Pretty good beginnings. 👏
Daniel- I would buy and love to read a book on Judas. The Character of Judas has always appealed to me- your take on the character with your art will just be unreal! sign me up brother-man..
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook Daniel. It was great to see your progress, influences and challenges. My only concern was that you had drawn over your Andy Goldsworthy hand out. Hopefully that was after you had looked into his work 😁
Thanks for sharing Daniel! It’s very brave of you and encouraging to developing artists. Also, you should change the name of this show to “Love is Coming to Town”. Sorry. I’m kidding. Please keep doing these.
I just read the new beta ray bill comic. 5 issues of the greatest comic book I’ve read to date. It’s everything I’ve been wanting in a comic. Sci-fi , fantasy, mythology, gods, aliens, and swords. Some of the dopest shit ever
I think you need to do a short comic with all of these characters, battle-royale style, vying to see who survives the past to star in your next creator-owned project. Ex-girlfriend vs. Emo Zombie Hunter, vs. Resurrected Judas vs. Scot McKnight vs. Metal Gear Solid. Think about it! You have to drawn them all 2007-style and only the winner gets a 2020 redesign!
I'm so excited that you made a channel! Your work has not only been inspiring, but it also brought me back into manga--what got me into art in the first place. I've been back into making art and storytelling ever since. Looking forward to seeing your future videos!
Dude I love the into & the music. Thanks for opening up to us on the inter-webs. I'm an aspiring artist & I was really hoping to meet you at c2e2 unfortunately you weren't there at that moment hopefully next time though 👊💥
This video was so insightful, after this I grabbed my current sketchbook that I’m pretty close to finish and started criticizing my own stuff, checking on what I need to improve and of course, catching all those feelings throug the process haha, I’m so happy that you started the Chanel Daniel!
YEAH!!!! seeing this is awesome bro. so great looking at your early drawings. thanks for sharing this bro. I cant wait to see the next video!! cheers!!!
Cool sketch book flip through Daniel:) I’m surprised you were influenced by joe mad :) I’m also influenced by joe mad especially tied down with the sensibility of combining manga and American comics which I still do to this day \m/also I have a big collection of sketch books from 2018 to now in 2020 and onwards:)
Wow, I can’t help comparing my poor attempts at art to what you called some of the “worst” drawing you made and, damn, they are worlds better then any of the messy attempts at sketches that populate my sketchbook... thank you for sharing though and I’ll be there for more. Your work inspires me to keep trying and hope I’ll get better,,...maybe ... at some point, thank you for this series of videos
Loved that walk through your past. I've got many sketchbooks like those and a diary sketchbook that has a lot of girl's names blotted out after the fact. Lol So cool to see your influences and progression around the same time I was drawing similar things. Thank you for this video. It's very humorous to laugh along with you. Excited to see more!
I discovered and fell in absolute love with your art when I was at a LCS and found Wonder Woman Dead Earth. I was amazed and obsessed by the art and followed you on IG and now I’m fully on board with your channel! Thanks for sharing and keep sharing your work is amazing!
Oh man! I loved this series showing Sketchbooks, I'm currently in my second Sketchbook and I'm kind of like you in 2007, trying to get a LOT of improvement, I hope that in 13 years I will be revisiting him and having this mix of emotions you had! Excellent video by the way Daniel, I can't wait for the next!!
I'd read that Judas character! My favorite in this would prob be when you said you first were successful with inks at your friendly job. And that wolverine drawing was pretty good.
Hey, man! Thank you SO much giving us such an in-depth look into your journey. There are many people who would never do this - which is why I feel so invested in you and your work. I look forward to more!
This is such a majorly inspiring video and I am beyond excited to see the future content. To see such humble beginnings and the importance of a sketchbook emphasized and made important it makes me happy, motivated and idealistic towards my artistic future. Thank you for that Daniel, it helps too that I'm in the same age range as you were during that time, makes it all feel so grounded. From all the times I met you or even read your work you've been an unspoken mentor, inspiration and motivation for years now. This youtube thing is such a leap forward for your reach and I know you'll capture and inspire hundreds or thousands more of your fans than you already do. Keep on rocking daniel. -gunner

You've got the time, and it sounds like youre using it wisely! Good luck!
I started watching Sketch Book Tour 7 and then stopped and came back to the beginning to get the whole evolution. I respect the hell out of you exposing your sketchbooks like this. Scary to put this kind of unfinished work out there. But I appreciate it.
Sketchbooks are a great time machine; if a little embarrassing. That was very brave. Thanks for the look at your past, delivered with awesome humor.
This is the bravest shit I've ever seen. I'd burn some of my old sketchbooks rather than let someone see them. Thanks for being so generous and vulnerable with your fans.
Not going to lie... I'm totally invested in Judas trying to redeem himself.
Lol yes! Go team Judas!
@@mattgamer all these positive responses has me thinking about it for sure!
Daniel Warren Johnson I would totally check that! The premise is good!
Three years late to the party, but that’s not the point! The point is, Judas redeeming himself, especially after what you did with Do A Powerbomb, would be amazing.

"I do that now obviously...because I like to save money!" Ahahah, that was hilarious (and true, man Moleskins are expensive!)
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook Daniel. It was great to see your progress, influences and challenges. My only concern was that you had drawn over your Andy Goldsworthy hand out. Hopefully that was after you had looked into his work 😁
Very inspiring, DWJ. Can't wait to see more. I hope other artists do sketchbook tours. I wonder who Joe Madureira was riffing?
The Mad Man has influenced so many artists, still my favorite to this day!
He'll always hold a special place in my heart.
Can't wait to see a Judas X Punk Rock Jesus comics haha
You're great Daniel, this channel doesn't made me lie.

Also, you should change the name of this show to “Love is Coming to Town”.
Sorry. I’m kidding. Please keep doing these.
You're an awesome artist. Much love from the Philippines.
"I'm so bad at this..." Man, you're the best, are you kiddin! I love discovering people through their art!
THanks so much!

Man, I'm still so into Madureira's work. I feel very identified with this aspect of your sketchbook. Thanks for sharing this.
Dude! You had Scot Mcknight as a teacher? That's awesome! He's the best!
He is indeed!
Thank you for being willing to share your sketchbook. Very inspiring to see your progress.
It would be really cool for you to do some callbacks to your favorites of these sketchbooks in your new comics
What an amazing journey! Thanks!

10:45 "I remember this mouth giving me so much trouble." (Whilst pointing to ex's mouth) We knew what you meant.
Bless ya son, I dunno if I could have done this, hah.
Ha, im sure I'll regret this video in ten years or something, oh well!
Lol, I have so many sketchbooks from high school filled with Joe Mad, Chris Bachalo and Toriyama rip-offs. Right there with you man.
Right? We are not alone!
