Man. I’m writing this at 4am. Supposed to make it to a drift event tomorrow. Was about to call it quits because I had this exact issue. I tried and tried exactly how you explained it for at least a few hours nonstop. Was getting furious and was about to light the car on fire and walk away. But I saw the success in the comments and wanted to taste that same achievement. I decided to take a break and grab a few beefy 5 layer burritos from Taco Bell and chilled for a bit. With the motivation from this video I got back out for one last push and I shit you not within the first 5 seconds of rotating the hub it snapped in. I shit myself. I couldn’t believe it, so I hurried up and bolted everything in place as if it was a ticking time bomb. Took the car for a quick rip around the block and works flawlessly! Cars a Nissan 240sx s14. Thanks Kevin you da man!!!
I swear every time I'm struggling for hours to do 1 thing, I take a small break and once I come back it magically happens within the first couple seconds
Gave up on my Honda earlier. Packed up my tools. Went to bed and scanned over youtube. This video pops up. Went back out to the car and boom the shaft went back in Thank you👍😂
Just did this on my Kia Sorento. The axle pulled out when I removed the top strut nuts before removing both bottom bolts (one was frozen and I needed more play). This video gave me the confidence to push it back in. I did need a hammer to get the axle all the way in once everything was lined up and the universal joint had popped back in. Thanks so much. You'll get good karma for this one!
Hoooooooohhhhhhh my god dude, this saved my LIFE. I was about crying in frustration at this thing and as soon as I tried this trick it went right back in and I was able to put my spindle back onto the strut. Thank you so much man!
thank you very much. i changed my struts on my subaru outback and told my wife it’s just a piece of cake and we can drive to check out Fall colors. that was 2 days ago. i fixed it today because of you.
Thank you so much! I changed the strut cover and the axle falled out and I though the alignment screwed up to. Spent several hours in the middle of the night to sort this out and gave up and left it for 5 days until I saw this video. Now I can finally sleep well 😂🤣
This really helped me out. Car stood on jack stands for 3 days before i saw this. Thank you so much for making this video. The title makes it hard to find when searching though, I got a link from a forum. Great video nonetheless. Thank you.
This is one of the finest hack videos of all time. Thanks for your knowledge and passing on a brilliant tip. I was struggling with this for a while, installing coil overs and my axle dropped out because I didn’t hang the hub. Saved me a rebuild.
Just this on my civic FN2 while changing coilovers, where this didn’t help me and was fighting it for over an hour. I managed to remove the drive shaft bolt from the hub, removed the shaft for space and maneuverability, removed the boot (greese will leak out) so I can see why the knuckles wasn’t gong back in, and when you can see it, it’s easier to manger it back in. Great video though. 👍
Thanks for posting this up 😎 working on my mums mk8 civic changing shocks and drop links... thought i had taken successful precautions but still the drivers side (uk) shaft popped out... watched two vids.. your was the 2nd vid and i got the shaft back seated in minutes 😎👌 wee adjustment up on the contol arm with a jack helped me 👍
Thank you very much for posting this video. When I realized this happened to me while inspecting damper parts, I was shocked and panicked. After stressing for half a day, and considering taking it apart, I figured that it should be able to go back in just as easily as it had slipped out. I consulted the repair manual to have a better understanding, and I studied some other methods, but I am sure glad that I stumbled upon this video. I had some troubles at first, but after trying different angles, it worked after I tilted the knuckle toward the front while hanging onto the steering arm and lower control arm. I wish that I could show more appreciation, but all that I could think of was to smash that like button and subscribe the heck out of your channel!! I saw your DTLA channel banner, so if you are ever in the Southern California area traveling inland toward San Diego, I will give you a super high 5 and maybe a big hug too. I'd probably try to take you out somewhere, but only if you're cool with it ^_^.
Thanks for making this video. This worked on my passenger side but for the driver's side no amount of wiggling would make it go back in. Eventually I took the axle nut off, took the axle out, and smashed the end of it with a mallet. That successfully slammed it in.
This was a life saver, it took us hours to figure this out...Here are my recommendations: 1) Where he has his hand, put as much pressure as possible (full body weight); 2) have someone else turn the other tire back and forth at the point where it pops out when it is in neutral and the other side is popped out -> it hopefully will pop back in; 3) make sure the rotor is secure after that so it doesn't pop out again (it popped out again for us and we had to be very careful).
Thank you so much, i had to do it a little different because I’m small. I put a jack underneath it and jack it up all the way where the top meet coilover to the boot and turn it with lug nut on and use a ratchet to turn it slowly
Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU! I was just replacing the ball joints on my 2002 CRV and the driver side cv axle popped out. I tried pushing and turning for half an hour (with the vehicle in park) to no avail. I was just about to buy a new axle when I found your video. It took about 15 seconds to fix it.
I was struggling with this... even put transmission grease on the end of the axle to hold the c ring in place but it still wouldn't go in... then I took the two bolts off of the strut and did what you said... and it worked! Thanks Man! God bless you for putting this video together!
Thank you Kevin. It worked for my 2007 honda civic hybrid. the axel was pop out during my head gasket change, lifting too much of the engine up and down. The method saved my day.
Hey Kevin, wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. This method is absolutely spot on !! I was working on my wife's car for two days before coming across your video. Worked like butter and actually took about the same amout of time as in your video, maybe 20 seconds. Never even knew the axle could pop out but knew something wasnt right because i could never get the lower ball joint to line up in the knuckle after i replaced the hub and wheel bearing for 2009 toyota camry. To anyone watching this video, this is a true and tried method that works to the T. Again, thank you for the knowledge 🙏
Thanks so much for this. Did this on a Honda Element the other day, and had it back in within 5 minutes. I thought I was going to need to remove the axle and axle boot to get it back together. Seriously can’t thank you enough!
2003 Civic. This kinda worked although I was replacing the LCA with the strut connected - completely different angle. Putting the car in 3rd gear was the difference for me. Tip: if you've got a speed brace and a 32mm socket with a spinning handle, you can spin the axle that way. That way you can put your weight against it without having to touch the hub or wheel studs. I'm so relieved!
Sadly this doesn't work. Same issue with my 2007 Honda Civic. Tried from every height and every angle. Hand, foot, all possible heights, rotating in exactly this way but nothing. Will not go in. Over 20+ hours attempting it. Oh well Update 2 days later - So the way Kevin does this didn't quite work for me bu it wasn't far off. I must have spent around 20 odd hours trying to do this fix. I considered taking the hub apart but, i read down in the comments and Kevin mentions about getting the shaft level (which i had done before but not for long enough) so decided to give it one last go. I raised mine until it was at a very slight angle, probably 10-15 degrees and then tried the same technique. Took about 10-15 mins. As i rotated clockwise i felt a sort of catch and the arm engaged. I then kept the pressure on and rotated it back counterclockwise and it snapped back in. These are done in slight increments. To do this, you just need patience and time. I spent an entire day trying with no luck. Sometimes coming back to something is the best thing. So to clarify what worked for me 1: Jack up the suspension arm until the shaft is at a very slight angle. 10-15 degrees. 2: Angle the hub so it's closer to the seating position and not the front. 3: Rotate the hub clockwise and counterclockwise in small increments at the point where the shaft is at it's most depressed point 4: Make turns like kevin does in the video and the forward turn should begin to lock it in and the reverse turn should lock it back in. 5: Have patience and don't give up. It might seem hopeless but it will get there eventually
Youre a liar, this is not the same for only all hondas, it saved my life tonight for a 2014 Toyora Camry too 👍👍👍!!! Thank you so much. I did a front passenger ball joint and the axle popped out and I could not push it back in at all and the Neutral trick did the job! Thank you so much.
This video worked wonders for the drivers side. Pax side is killing me. No matter what I do, goes halfway and won’t go rest of way ugh! I went back outside after posting the comment and it worked in 2 min!!!! Holy moly!
Thanks for the video. Likr everyone else it happened at the worst time and no matter what I did it wouldn't go back in until I put the car in neutral. Saved my hide
Thank you for the video I have being searching all over in clouding alldata repair , and this totally makes sense ! I have a 1997 Honda CR-V that I replace the rear diffential ! Everything was great so I when to test drive the car , well it left me in the mittle of the free way, I pushed the crv about 100 meters didn’t know what happened so by shifting the gear selector back and forward I heard I big clunck and it went on gear so I drove it back then I check the tyranny fluid and it was low I add 2 quarters and spell it out from the passenger cv axle shaft entrance even though I didn’t mess up with the front axles ! Well I got I new axle install it in ! And put 6 quarters of tranny fluid and it happened again! So I gave up ! Until I saw this video ! I might try your way now !
Kevin, thank you for the video ! I worked on my Honda Element 2003 EX AWD. The passenger side axel locked while replacing the strut. I turned the rotor till the axel set into position then continuously mini turn left and right till it pop right in. Less than 10 minutes.
Just tried this on my Subaru Impreza after 2 hours of trying everything else possible. And it wasn't quite as fast as how it went back in for you, mine took several turns and then it was about half way back in, several more turns and it was fully back in (guessing I made it worse by trying my own ways first), thank you for sharing this tip!

I have a dodge ram 1500. And I can get the cv axle to go in all the way into the knuckle. I got it most the way in. All but about a quarter of an inch. I have it all lined up right. I'll try bonking it with a sledge hammer on the rotor to see if it will pop on more.
I'm used to VWs. It's crazy how tiny all of the suspension and drivetrain parts are on Hondas. Makes me concerned how long it'll all last being abused on the dirt roads I have to drive.
I changed my control arm yesterday and my axel popped out a bit while doing it. I can't get it back in for nothing. Seems like it's going in sometimes, but gets lose again when I tighten the axel nut. Any suggestions
Bro when i was changing my strut i didnt know the axle would pop out but everything i tried wouldnt go back in ? Can the cv axle be dislocated from the hub ? Im planning on removing the axle all together and put it back not sure if that would be the trick but i need to fix this issue.
Thank you for the video, my mercedes w168 front wheel drive popped out the axle cv 1cm from gearbox driver side, while my friend trying to fix camber on strut bolt, , still can rotate the hub and drive shaft on neutron, and partially quarter turn when gear engaged, but will never pop in again, do you think it will work?
Hello i had a suspension change, during that cv axle popped out i've forced a bit to insert it, but after that i have a grinding noise. I didn't have this noise before. What do u think? Do i need to change cv axle?
Kevin, passenger side axle popped out on my 2015 TLX. Now I can't line up the ball joint to the LCA. Any extra tips, along with your video on this model? Or am I screwed?LOL
Hi I just came across your video. I'm having the same issue. While replacing my front struts the drive side axle came off of something like in your video. Is it the same procedure as well for Honda Odyssey?
@@Kevin4Hire hey Kevin, thx for replying. Mine came off the joint. Just boot is holding. I can feel when it gets back in but does not go all the way in. I don't wanna take the whole axle out to fix it.
Hi Kevin. I have a 2002 acura mdx and pulled out the axle while trying to put in a new control arm. The axle is still attached to the strut. should I remove it from the strut first? Hope you can help. Thanks.
Kevin 4 Hire It worked! That was amazing! It took a lot of attempts but it finally really “clunked” into position. Thank you soo much Kevin. Thank you for replying back. Now I gotta figure out how to straighten my steering wheel.😀
This just happened to me while changing my struts on my Subaru STI. I bewas able to get it to go back in pretty easily…but, when I drove the car afterwards, I’m now getting a rubbing noise. Not a clicking noise. Do you know what this could be?
@@FirstnameLastname-ni9uh Shit man, it turned out that I didn’t get it in quite right, and because I drove on it, I had to replace the axle. Lesson learned. Will never accidentally pop an axle out again. Good luck man. Hopefully you can get it back in. If not, you can always take the boot off, and get it back in that way. It’s a messy job and a pain in the ass, but it’s better than buying a new axle. Did you have both wheels off the ground when it happened, or just one?
Hey man, thanks for the vid. About to pull the trigger on an A-spec suspension setup and wanna do the install without running into this problem. Any tips on how I can avoid the axle popping out? I saw in your description you mentioned having cord hold it up, is that usually what you're supposed to do? I haven't seen that tip in the service manual or other DIYs I've read

Kevin, passenger side axle popped out on my 2015 TLX. Now I can't line up the ball joint to the LCA. Any extra tips, along with your video on this model? Or am I screwed?LOL
great video that just saved me
Just saved me with that tip!
Thanks, saved my day 👍🏻
Also, once you put the axel back in place and but the shocks back, do you turn the axel again to lock it in place?
great job works just like you said
Hi I just came across your video. I'm having the same issue. While replacing my front struts the drive side axle came off of something like in your video. Is it the same procedure as well for Honda Odyssey?
Pretty much, make sure you put the car in neutral
@@Kevin4Hire hey Kevin, thx for replying. Mine came off the joint. Just boot is holding. I can feel when it gets back in but does not go all the way in. I don't wanna take the whole axle out to fix it.
@@danstealthb-2192 what happened? My Odyssey did the same thing today
So jacking it up on both sides will help it go back in by leveling it? Let me know thank you!
Lifesaver
Many thanks
Hi Kevin. I have a 2002 acura mdx and pulled out the axle while trying to put in a new control arm. The axle is still attached to the strut. should I remove it from the strut first? Hope you can help. Thanks.
I’d keep turning the spindle until it clicks back in
Kevin 4 Hire It worked! That was amazing! It took a lot of attempts but it finally really “clunked” into position. Thank you soo much Kevin. Thank you for replying back. Now I gotta figure out how to straighten my steering wheel.😀
Well done. Excellent
Dude! Having this problem right now! I hope this works! XD
FFS. This video saved my ass.
Damm lifesaver here too thanks bud 👍
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!
Thank you! It worked!
Life saver!!
This just happened to me while changing my struts on my Subaru STI. I bewas able to get it to go back in pretty easily…but, when I drove the car afterwards, I’m now getting a rubbing noise. Not a clicking noise. Do you know what this could be?
Bro how did u do it um having the same problem on my sti
@@FirstnameLastname-ni9uh Shit man, it turned out that I didn’t get it in quite right, and because I drove on it, I had to replace the axle. Lesson learned. Will never accidentally pop an axle out again. Good luck man. Hopefully you can get it back in. If not, you can always take the boot off, and get it back in that way. It’s a messy job and a pain in the ass, but it’s better than buying a new axle. Did you have both wheels off the ground when it happened, or just one?
thats a cool meathod to fix this
Hey man, thanks for the vid.
Some people use a cord, I just let it drop as I can put it back every time.
Dude thank you so much
Put a jack underneath the rotor and keep it supported.
Bro you saved my ass today thank you!
My rotors aren't turning like in the video, I tried it by hand! What am I doing wrong!
I love you man!
