Great assembly presentation. I really appreciate the soft voice tone and the lack of background music. It "comes across" with the level of excellence that your talent is worthy of.
I love the format of your build videos. Very informative and very relaxing. Also your camera work and transitions are top notch! Keep it up Gav. Big fan!
For what its worth Gavin, this video without any backing music and subtle commentary just seemed to ooze quality. It just seemed a level above in terms of professionalism. I appreciate Im just one guy, but thats just my opinion. Great video!
What a fun looking build!! I had one of these as a kid! I traded a friend for the YZ-10 roller chassis for my Losi JRXT and a Losi MTM (i believe it was a 19 turn 'modified) motor. One of the coolest cars I ever owned!!
Nice Gav. Enjoyed watching the build. Now, as far as pain in the bot bot goes, I see your Schumacher, and raise you one TRF501x. The best tip for working on one of those at the track (driveline wise), don't!
Very nice build video, it was like building mine all Over again watching that ;) I’ve spoken to a few racers and they think the transmission will hold up to 10.5 brushless motor no problem. Some of them run there OG versions like this. Think yokomo are just protecting themselves a bit. Look forward to the finished article ;)
Awesome build video. When this kit was first announced I was 😮 on how much it cost and thought about not getting it for my collection…then it hit me, I paid about that much for my 2011 Avante, that’s still waiting to be built. Another great video Gav! Can’t wait to see this on Noob goes racing!
Thank you for making the effort to make this video. Very enjoyable IMO. No disturbing music and real wrenching 😊. I would like to build one of these but the price is too much especially because you need 3 Tamiya tool sets 0:12 😂
LOL true. I purchased one years ago, picked up a second set as the first had started to round off due to so much use and the third set was a gift not that long ago.
😆 🤣 I broke down and bought two. Lmao... after complaining about the cost of one. 😅 I was very inspired by your nod to Misami(Looks fabulous). Thank you, Sir! I'll certainly build one of these and do a Misami/RcKicks inspired 870c.
Thank you for another great video! Gorgeous buggy. I think I am going to hold off building my kit until I see what is available in terms of 3rd party upgrades.
Maybe look at a full size servo for this car, I fitted my normal reefs 299 and the wire position fouled with the servo mount. I made it work but something to consider
im also interested to see the weight balance with the battery on one side, as the original use saddle packs, and the motor doesnt look that offset. Cant wait to watch the next video!!
Well, where's the background music ? 😂 Awesome build and hats off to you for running this car. It's incredible how "simple" it is when you compare to the other 4WD of that era 😮 Can't wait to see the body 😊
That does look like a really nice build, went together very well. I still think it's a bit too expensive, but if I had the cash I would be tempted.....
Can’t wait to start mine! What is that tool you use to push in the ball joints? Looks useful … I ruined the rose joints on my cougar classic just using pliers and had to order more😢
I think you could build this in the time it takes just to get the diffs out of most cars 😂 one thing to watch out for reg servo’s. Make sure the wires dont exit where the alloy brace is. I fitted a short one as it comes out in the whole 👍
Masterfully done. Quick question, I'm building mine and on page 9 when building the rear suspension arms it says to use the "Right" steering block on the left side when building the rear left suspension arm. Am I reading that correct? Basically flipping them around. Thanks.
Yes on the rear, right is left and left is right. Page 9 top left diagram. “Steering block R” text above FRONT in the middle of the page “Assemble the right in the same way”.
Great video. After a 30 year hiatus I’m about to start building one of these. Do you have links to where I could purchase some of the tools you used in the video? Things like the shock stand, pliers, screwdrivers, grease etc…
I wouldn’t use my tool collection as a starting point, I have a load of old junk tools I just had when I started out and for some reason haven’t replaced lol. if you will be building Tamiya, Kyosho or any kit using hex, the Tamiya tool set is a good start for not a load of money. I have a discount code from a channel sponsor so it can save you 5% off everything and free UK shipping rochesterrc.uk/link/1503 I would come and join the “Just for RCKicks” Facebook page as it’s a great place to ask all kinds of questions on all things RC. 👍🏻
Do you think taking 2 of the bevel gears out of the diff really makes a difference? Most people would notice and it could actually unbalance the rotation of the diff
As far as I was told, it’s to improve the rotation in corners. I had my B6.4 like this and it never gave me and vibration issues. My driving isn’t good enough and I never run comparisons at a track to really see.
@@RCKickschannel Power tool makers (Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc) have been using powdered metal for the cases and gears for a few years. I don't think a powdered metal piece would be as strong as one made of machined billet aluminum, but don't quote me on that.
@@markbruton-young9228 The magnesium bulkheads were very light but brittle. The tabs where the shock towers mount would snap off. RPM made plastic bulkheads that were bulletproof back then.
Im just about to build mine after months of having it. But i want the carbon shock towers/ upper carbon deck and shocks. Suggest? Please send links fyi im in japan. Thanks pal! Oh, your fam name is the same as my step father. Evans. Hope your not related- cause hes a real dk. 😘👍
I load of after market options available for the 870c now. A quick Google will bring up a few choices for you. I would go with one that has the battery on the opposite side to stock, as having the battery and the motor on the same side of the buggy isn't the best for handling.
Quite a detailed build, thanks but this Yokomo just leaves me a a bit cold perhaps it is because I'm such a massive Yokomo nerd and the 870c was my first serious buggy - I'm going to give this a pass unless the price comes down. #Nerdfact you needed to remove the front tower to access the diffs on the original and works models, they made the towers taller which seems odd as the shocks are also shorter.
Compared ro the materials used in the 87 mid to me the yokomo is about £150 over priced which it is in Japan guess yokomo are subject to to the same issue as tamiya with massive price difference between Japan and Europe funny how kysoho are simaler priced both in Japan and Europe guess the importers are making a nice slice of the pie

I was thinking exactly the same thing. That Talbot always sounds like he's hopped up on caffeine. 🤣
Thank you for not using any music in this video. Just the voice over was so much better. Much more enjoyable to watch. 👍
Nice in-depth build of an intriguing buggy, thanks!

I didn't think that I could drool for 23 minutes 😮

The JRX2 and Team Associated YZ10 were my first two cars . I still own both .
I absolutely loved building mine such good quality and super straightforward to build👍
got mine two week ago. a 35 years dream came true =)
Congratulations
Junior used to race the dog fighter back in the 80s? That one looks more modern I really like that car
GLORIOUS
Beautiful kit and build 😊 wow.. Pete

LOL Nothing like designing a race buggy and making it complicated to work on 👍🏻

The buggy was designed and built when tracks were all dirt. Some flex in the chassis was desirable. Thats why it doesn't have a big top deck.
It’s got loads of flex lol
This car looks like the cars from the RC Grand prix game for the Sega master system 😄👍sweet

I've got mine all layed out . Didn't realize how difficult body paint was going to be .
I hope they rere the 834b next

I nearly got one of these, Gavin. Thing is, it's almost $500 usd. Crazy sauce!!

Really the battery needs to go on the other side as currently it sits on the same side as the motor.

dream car
What a fantastic build video - almost sold of this if I could justify the cost 🤷🏼♂️
What a beautiful buggy ❤
Broke down and preordered one.
Well worth building this one.
If you use a lot e-clips you can get tool for that. I used one once it was awesome.
Yep the e clip tool helps.
The old stuff is so simple
Said no XLS owner ever lol 😜
Dang! Now i have to buy one too- you just cost me 500 usd Gavin! 😂👍
LOL, most welcome ;)
That does look like a really nice build, went together very well. I still think it's a bit too expensive, but if I had the cash I would be tempted.....
Is the car balance ok? It originally used a saddle pack and both the motor and battery are on the same side.
I changed chassis to fix the battery location issue. I did an upgrade video on the show
@@RCKickschannel I'll check it out

Nice build gavs but the way you put threadlock in the rear bulkhead block was way too much, hope you do not need to remove those bolts!
Gavin, awesome video! One of your best! When did you get the side cutters / snips and what make / model are they? Luke
Thanks for watching 👍🏻. Snips are a gift from an RcKicks viewer and are from XURIN corp, a US company.
@RCKickschannel * Xuron - I have a pair, they're really good
I wouldn't bother changing shocks out. Putting a bigger sock body is going to give you even less travel. I'd just keep the yokomo shocks
Piston length is also longer as is the piston bore size
Can you tell me where the aftermarket top decks are available please?
Lightning Components. You can find them on Facebook. Say hi from me if you

1:40 bulkheads appeared to be made of sintered aluminum powder
