  • **Disclaimer** Because of the nature of microscopy and this video, any claims are pure speculation. Multiple slides were used and no confirmatory testing was performed. This highlights the procedures used.***
    This video breaks down a few different procedures for preparing slides for microscopy in mycology. Three common methods: Wet Prep, Heat Fixing and Scotch Tape Prep are used to observe spores and mycelium under the microscope. Enjoy and MUSHLOVE!

    You've got an awesome variety of stuff on Etsy. I got the camo hat for my husband for Christmas. I had a random question. If I want mushrooms ready by the 1st of May when should I start it. I grow from spore or L.C. not kits..also can you suggest what ones do well in the tent together. What name some that grow under the same conditions plz. Thx Gary

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  Год назад

      it usually takes about 2 weeks at each phase (2 weeks on agar, 2 weeks on grain, 2 weeks on bulk and 2 weeks to fruit) That being said, there can be setbacks with contamination or some will take much longer (shiitake for instance). Most mushrooms will grow well in the same tent around 65F

    size, expressed as (ℓext.min)ℓmin-ℓmax(ℓext.max) × (wext.min)wmin-wmax(wext.max), and the
    average size as ℓM × wM, where “ext.min” .

    Thanks for the video Funguy. Quick question - what would be the benefit of looking at spores or mycelium through the microscope? Is there any information I could gather from that process? I've got a microscope and was wondering if I could improve my mycology by doing this exercise somehow.

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  Год назад

      for breeding it helps find mated pairings by looking for clamp connections- it also helps to identify unknown mushrooms
      or unique strains because of spore characteristics

    How about to get proper microscope more suitable for mycology ? :) Like old inverted Olympus CK with proper lenses, then u will be able to observe and work with everything on agar, event single spore isolation as u got plenty of space from above... Proper lenses can focus trough agar with no problem... we use them daily here and it's like light years away from classic ones

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  Год назад

      ah yes for the next series I can upgrade. These Amacopes are less than 200$ the Olympus start around 5k. I agree that they are better, but for an at-home mycologist that capital could go towards many other things while this scope works well enough (the “Honda civic” of microscopes as I have stated earlier) Olympia is like a Cadillac - thanks for the feedback and next time you bust that scope out hopefully you will thank the mushroom gods and have some gratitude 🙏🏻 MUSHLOVE 🍄❤️

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi Maybe some used one from ebay ? :) My was around 500 $ Basic series of new ones are around 1700. but yes for sure they are much more expensive, but also much more suitable for the job :) And if u will get one with micro manipulators u can forget on serial dilution as is really easy to pick spores or anything else :)
