Props to Shasta for keeping cool during the pedestal skip fails, I'm sure he felt a ton of pressure on him during that.
That skip on the scan pulse was really nice,so glad to see samus returns in here despite being a somewhat fresh game !!
Saw this live. Was a fantastic run. Shashta was a champ throughout the entire thing, even when the glitch trick wasn't working. He played it cool, saw it through, and still came in under estimate.
"There are more of these, it won't take this long," he said at 22:35, teasing the curious attention of the Marathon luck god. "This one's actually the worst one."
the best runs to watch are ones, like this one, where the interactions between the runner and others are respectful and fun. everyone can have their turn speaking and jokes are taken lightly.
Unfortunate about the pedestal clip taking so long, but honestly still a very entertaining run overall in my opinion. Solid commentary by Shasta and the couch
Half way through this run is where I'm at now on my first playthrough. He has done in 40 minutes what has taken me 7 hours...

To be fair, if you'd played the game as much as he has, you'd probably have a much better time even without the exploits.

I came here after hearing about the cringy pedestal glitch expecting an absolute trainwreck of a run and was surprised to see that it ended up being one of the better runs of the marathon with extremely skilled play in general while simultaneously delivering engaging commentary. Great job!
They used the metroid prime jingle for energy tanks, hahah fan service done right, i think

Always angry The Aeion abilities pickup sound is also the Chozo Artifact pickup sound.
They too used the same music from the original Prime's lava-level (forgot what it's called) on the lava level.
@@aiGeis Magmoor Caverns is actually just a version of Super Metroid's Norfair music (or was it Ridley's lair? It was one of them...)

the queen skip makes me wonder if it's possible to do some kind of pacifist run where you kill zero metroids by going out of bounds for the entire game

Seeing Samus Returns after playing Dread makes this look so much lesser than it is. I had to play this game with a semi-busted circle pad. I started a hard mode run too but just never got back to it.
Loved this run! Mr_Shasta was so entertaining to watch as was the couch crew and the audience rocked too! Awesome tricks (and I don't think that first pedestal clip will ever be seen in quite the same way again!) and all round really good fun!
I wasn't a huge fan of this game when it first came out because of the parry mechanic, but watching it being run I remember that it's still a Metroid game, and therefore still pretty dang good.
Samus is too much of a badass with this animations and this kind of gameplay

This game looks pretty good, minimal aliasing in general for a 3DS game :-)
It's so pretty. The 3D effect is beautiful on a New 3DS---I'd say it's right up there with Majora's Mask and Kirby Planet Robobot for prettiest 3DS game.

Metrsamsrns was a pretty neat game.
Memoriest that my favorite, old time I played when I was kids in 1987.
Some of the music in this game is re-used from the Prime series.
A lot of Prime's music is already based on Super Metroid's music, which in turn shares a little with the original Metroid.
Actually, its re-used from Super Metroid. That is what the Prime games did too. Why do people keep thinking that the Magmoor Caverns music is a Prime original?

Grant Brown in what way is lower norfair forgettable? It’s a contrast to a lot of the locations in the rest of the game, and the remix in Prime isn’t too different. How does Prime’s mix make it seem like an original track?

Is it possible to change the camera int this game? I feel like it's too close, you can barely see what's below, as opposite to older 2D metroid games. Anyway, this such a good game, I loved the animations, and tbh I prefer 2D metroid games than 3D ones.

Literally not even 2 minutes into the run and something I had never heard of was shown, that being touching the screen to morph instead of double tapping down.

can someone explain why metroids are insects and not jellyfish anymore?
jellyfish form is the larva form of metroids, the insectoid shape it's technically their true form
They only appear in these "insect" forms in this game because it takes place on their home planet. The environment allows them to evolve into larger forms.
In addition to what the others said... the original version of this game came out in 1991 and was the second Metroid game. Those Metroid metamorphoses have been canon for twenty-six years.

Metroid doesn't target a large crowd like Mario and Zelda does. The games have not been marketed or advertised as hard as other franchises. Its not popular in japan. Lastly, the games are just harder and a lot of casuals don't finish the game.

It has always been a niche series. It also doesn't help that the last several titles were... less than stellar. It hasn't really had the greatest showing in the last decade or so.
My sister gave me a "New!" 3DS XL for my birthday and as payment for building a website for her. Picked up this and Ocarina of Time 3D. The last Metroid game I played before Samus Returns was Prime on the Gamecube.

They could, but the controls in Super Metroid are worse than this and has slower movement speed than Fusion and Zero Mission.
Makes me want MercurySteam to remake Super using Dread’s mechanics.
