I wish all these cry babies would quit complaining about the motion in the video, the man is not trying to make a major motion picture to win an Oscar. Great video bro, thanks for posting!
This would have been a great video if it wasn't for all the fast movement. It was getting me dizzy. I felt like I was on a Rollercoaster. Lol. I'm shimming up a roller nut on a Warmoth neck.
@@primaltone9064 I literally just finished my build earlier today. I used a strat style neck, modern construction and a hss mahogany body with a figured walnut cap. Rear route so no pickgaurd. This is my first build an I'm glad I spent the coin on a Warmoth. She feels like a blend of a PRS Custom 24 and a Fender American Elite Srat but lighter. I'm very happy with it for sure. Warmoth is slow to get products out. So be ready to wait. But when it does arrive it is well worth the wait.
Great question steverhinefrank5589! The “resting point” of the strings is definitely the rollers. They are just little ball bearings which are supposed to create less drag on the strings, due to much less surface contact, enabling the guitar to better stay in tune especially when using the tremolo.
I did mine on a milling machine. It's down to one thousands . Not sure if it needed to be that exact , but wanted the distance to the first fret exact.
Hi Brian, It’s funny you should ask. I recently ran into that exact situation. Because the slot is wider in the least favorable direction, I had to take a 1/4” square piece of brass and machine a step in it where the edge toward the bridge closely matched the fretboard profile. The higher side was made just like a regular brass nut. If I were to do a video on it would that interest you?
That is a great question Craig! With a conventional nut yes but the center of the roller nut ball bearings are at the same point where the conventional nut ends which requires the non reversible act of removing material toward the bridge. Unfortunately, once it’s done, there’s no turning back. LOL!
You cut the fretboard in FRONT of the nut rather than behind the nut in order for the nut to fit in the nut slot. Didn't you just shorten the scale length of the guitar?
Very good question GuitarGuy69. Yes. You cut toward the bridge because the bearings which the strings ride on, sit back from front edge of the roller nut. The roller nut assembly is wider than your standard Strat nut.
Yes. Honestly, I didn’t notice anything uncomfortable or odd. It is a very minor difference. I suppose you could carefully file a 1/2 mm off each side if it were an issue. The string spacing is just right. Mine feel very nice.
Can you find most of these tools at a Lowes or Home Depot? I’m planning to install one of these myself and want to make sure I do it right. I’ve installed graphtech nuts before but this seems like a whole different beast!
Hi Stephen, The double sided tape, files, and thin saw can be found at Home Depot. You can use a small block of wood as a guide in Lue of the UHMW plastic bock. Other than that , you can use a 1/16” drill bit. Please be careful with the depth as you can easily drill right through your neck. The big difference ( the scariest part) is the fact that you’re cutting toward the bridge. It’s very easy to make a mistake. Just watch your nut width and you should be fine.
This was not easy. Sawing out the old nut was a nightmare. I did it on a old first act just to try. Came out nice and the old nut sorta just glides out once the depth is met by the file.
I'm guessing you mean width wise. The nut is very slightly wider than the Player Strat neck I installed it on. I must say it was worth it for me. As far as I know, the LSR only comes in one width which is (1.6875) 1-11/16". (43mm) I believe the Player Strat nut width is Just under at (1.650) (42mm)
Ufff freakin beast bro. I have the hss model on they way. Gonna throw a black pickguard to give it that David Gilmore look, I plan to upgrade the trem, the tuners and hopefully the nut to the lsr like you have. Gonna be a classy super strat. Thanks for you replies man!!
@@mattmartinez7135 That’s going to be very cool! I really like the quality of the Player Stratocaster. It is really nice for a Mexican or an American guitar.I would definitely like to see pics of your guitar when it’s done.
Great video and dude,if you can play the guitar with hands as big and thick as yours then there is most definitely hope for me because my paws are big and clunky just like yours. No offense what so ever meant my Brother.God bless you and your family and thank you for such a great video.
Thanks Nelson. No offense taken. I’m happy you liked the video. Keep watching. I have more content every week. Also please let me know if there is something you’d like to see covered on the channel.
Watching this is like being on a roller coaster
Love the video. I can't play videogames love to see you mount a camera looking down without all the movement of the camera.
Agreed.
Great video, I used it as a guide to installing the roller nut. Thanks for the tips and tricks. The video helped me a lot.
Thank you qwertzqtx!
I’m glad it helped.

Thank you Deeser! The videos will only improve.

I learned the hard way that the head mount was not the best for that application. How do you like the Warmoth products?
I'm considering a redo on that video.

That sounds awesome Dan. I think doing a build with a Warmoth neck is in my future.
is the rest point for the string at the front of the nut, or, at the roller ?
thanks, steve

Hey there, did you flatten the nut slot or leave it radiused ?
Hi. It was flattened due to the bottom of the roller nut being flat.
@@primaltone9064thanks, that’s the bit that is putting me off

Question: how do you remove a roller nut? I have a strat that I want to put a traditional nut back on. Do you have to glue a sliver on wood back on?
Hi Brian,

Forgive my ignorance, im new to working on guitars. But doesn't removing material on the bridge side of the nut slot change the scale? Thanks

You can never have too many guitars. LOL!
After watching the video I waited two day until my brain & eyes slowed down but I'm still a little dizzy.
LOL. I completely understand. No more head cam.
Thank you for watching Ringo!

Can i upgrade player strat MIM wit this 43mm roller nut(Player series has a 42mm)?

Haha. Thanks for the heads up. I'll do better next time!

Is this the Mexican player series strat??
Yes
Awesome. We the nut install how is it holding its tune??
It is actually awesome. I've had no tunining issues what so ever. That may be in part to the locking tuners.
