  • Here's another tip that I've learned that prevents you from having thinning locs. Sometimes as your hair grows it will grow outside of the base of the loc or in-between the locs. It's important that you incorporate those hairs back into the loc base so that you don't have integrity issues down the line such as thinning.
I just recorded a short tutorial. I hope it helps someone.
Let me know if you have questions.
Again thanks for all the love 😘

My consultant told me I have the type of hair that grows outside of the grid during my first retie. I have this issue all around my edges, the crown and especially in the back. Basically all over, lol! And for this reason I will continue to go to a consultant because I don't have the patience to do it myself. I'm so glad I found this video because many don't understand the concept of hair growing outside of the grid. Many try to say its due to breakage and it's not. It's just how our hair grows. Great video!!

Thanks so much for this video. I installed my microlocks back in November via interlocking. I completed my second retie two weeks ago, I’m happy that I’m seeing this video early on in my journey so that I know how to prevent possible thinning due to not incorporating the hair that’s growing outside of my locks.

I found this video right in time. After being sisterlocked for a year, I’m doing my first retightening next week. Trying to figure out how to deal with the loose hair around some locs have been a worry. Not anymore thanks to you. I appreciate you making this video.

So, glad you did this vid. My consultant just did my Feb. retightening and I did my first self-retightening in Jan. So as my consultant was doing my retightening, she mentioned that I would need to incorporate the loose hair back into the lock for reinforcement or I will risk the integrity of the loc. She also stated that I need to do this for all the fuzzy hair sticking out of my locs for uniformity...it’s so much more to self maintaining them I expected and I took the self-retightening class. Welp, I have my work cut out for me...thanks again.

Glad I could share. I've mainly focused on making sure I incorporate any loose hair that is growing outside of the base back into the loc. I have had hair along the shaft of the loc that is loose, and for some I have wrapped them around the loc as well to encourage them to loc within the loc. While my hair is going through the locking process, it seems to take care of itself.

So glad you made this video! My hair grows outside my locs, and I just didn’t know how to deal with it on my own. I am so intimidated and worried about messing up my locs that I continue to go to a loctician even though I am 3 years in. But I want to learn to retighten my own hair, and this video was very helpful. I thought I was the only one with loose hair issues. Thanks so much for sharing.

You're welcome. Honestly it's not that intimidating once you just do it. Learning to do my own was the best thing. I know the state of my locks.

I roll my lose hair around the base as well. Makes it look so much neater and fuller. So glad you’re back sis!❤️

I have that all over! One of the many reasons I still go to a consultant.

What kind of lock tool are you using?

  • @temickab

That's new phase hair. It wasnt in your lock before because your follicles did not have growth from that part of your scalp yet.
