    Making an Armored Leather Wallet (With STAINLESS STEEL!)
    Stainless Steel mesh can be easily combined with leather, sewn in between layers, to make very strong wallet that blocks RFID scanners and also adds strength to the wallet. To make this wallet, we used this stainless steel mesh combined with harness leather to hand sew an RFID blocking front pocket wallet. The wallet is made from Wickett & Craig leather using poly threads. This Stainless Steel and Leather wallet is a super strong due to the stainless mesh, but it is just as comfortable to wear due to the steel being woven into a mesh fabric that is very thin and conforms to the shape of the wallet.
    There are a few different places to get stainless steel mesh, so do a quick search for something that works for you if you'd like to try this construction!

    l use a stainless foil that is used for heat treating knives to keep oxidation off the blade. lt's .002 thick and flexible, but much cheaper than the screen. lt cuts with scissors as well. One layer is sufficient to block scanners. lf someone is concerned with scanners they can buy heavy duty aluminum foil and line the cash pocket of their wallet, but it will need to be replaced from time to time. Heavy duty aluminum foil is available at any grocery store and it's all l use for cooking or barbecue as it is thicker and less likely to tear, just FYI.

      Shirley, just go to Brownells.com, they have it in small or large amounts. It's not cheap, but much less than stainless mesh.

      Just wondering, would those foil emergency blankets work for blocking RFID, or is it not the right material?

      Shirley I don't know, it is real thin foil that's been coated with a mylar material.

    The mesh looks like an industrial S S screen printing material we use for metallization of high temp circuit boards available 80 to 200 stands per inch. more expensive than polyester but more consistent tension. There was always small scraps left over after stretching the frames. Could be a good source for a free supply of small pieces.

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 лет назад +1

      it's actually much more sustainable than a factory made product :) We only use one tool that needs electricity, and all of our materials are byproducts of the meat industry which would be waste otherwise

    • @obliviouz
      @obliviouz 5 лет назад

      @@Corter Sorry, no of course you're right, this far more environmentally sustainable. I meant in terms of volume production in a business sense. Wasn't a criticism, more a lamentation that only the lucky few will ever get to have something as unique as these pieces. Love your work!

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 лет назад +2

      It can be done! Many people say you need to sew with machines to produce enough volume to make a living, but we've been doing it with clicker dies and hand stitching for over 10 years producing plenty to make a living! That's why we don't use sewing machines in our videos, to encourage hand made production...that and we don't know how!

    soooo a question...
    The end result seems to be flat and not folded, usually when i see wallets they are folded without having to "break them in"
    how would one make sure the wallet is folded properly without effort and not wanting to stay open by the tension of the leather?

    • @beepIL
      @beepIL 4 года назад

      @sada das So there is no play with making the other shell slightly longer to allow for a natural extra material to fold and close?
      if i glue two identical pieces of leather rectangles one on top of the other, and try to fold them that is.
      or leather will naturally stretch the outer shell to allow for the fold to happen? (ie: broken in)

      The mesh doesn't go all the way to the stitches. It wouldn't tear the stitches apart if it did anyway because the stitch keeps the pieces from moving. The thread used in leather goods is extremely strong.

      No. You can't use aluminum foil. It will work harden as it flexes in your halter and start to crumble. Just spend the couple bucks and buy the stainless mesh. It's VERY cheap on eBay and alibaba/Aliexpress. (It is often sold as vaping wick.) You can get different hole spacing and different grades of stainless.

  • @suzisaintjames
    @suzisaintjames 5 лет назад

    I personally wouldn't use screen and don't have a scanner to test this, so reaseach is in order, but I believe that as long as the screen covers both sides of the chip, you are safe. Open this wallet and you probably lose all your protection anyway. It would be smarter to line the pockets, then the cards would be protected until actually removed from the wallet. Because he glues the screen to both pieces of leather, once cracked, I doubt the screen can separate very much and might not affect it's performance. Too bad the new chips aren't affected by RFDI. To know if you have the chip that needs this armour look for the symbol that looks something like )))) but with small to large kinda like 🔊 but with no speaker. If none of your cards have this symbol, you don't need the armour. I haven't seen a machine where you tap or can wave your card over it, so I'm not sure there are any out there anymore. With love 💜 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 года назад

      Almost all credit card machines allow you to tap your RFID card on them. LOL. Living under a rock? I used NFC/RFID payment methods with a credit card and/or my cell phone at every store I go to. Screen is a far better material than sheet/foil stock, to use in this application. It won't work harden nearly as fast as something in sheet/foil form. The few seconds you open your wallet, is not the time you need to worry about. The time your wallet is open only accounts for 0.05% of the time you have your wallet in public. It's closed in your pocket most of the time.) None of this matters because rfid theft/scanning/slimming/fraud is a non issue.

      Saying, "there has not been a single rfid related crime," is irrelevant. 99.9% of crime goes unknown or no one is charged. (How many illegal things have you done in your life without getting caught?) The point you should have made is that RFID fraud is almost impossible, and more importantly is extremely improbable; for about a dozen different reasons. That's is what makes the RFID blocking accessories useless.
