- Kamala Harris has made history by becoming the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in the history of American politics. Her achievement is seen as a huge milestone towards social progress, but there have been many women in the past who have helped paved the way for Harris. One of them is the trailblazing politician of the '60s, '70s, and '80s, Shirley Chisholm. In 1968 she became the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress and in the 1972 presidential election, she became the first African American candidate to run for a major party’s nomination. Crisholm's life story is remarkable and here are the major details of her groundbreaking career in American politics.

She would be 100 yrs old Nov 30th this year. She was my hero back in the 70’s . I remember her very well . She and Angela Davis were my heroes as a young woman. I’m so glad Regina King is portraying Shirley Chisholm in a recent Netflex movie titled “Shirley “. Can’t wait to see it.
Same, saw the poster on a bus stop in BK on Sunday! ☮💕🥳🥳
Who’s here after watching Netflix Shirley
What a trailblazer !
We should all look up to this woman.
Very inspiring
“Unbossed and unbought” Mrs. Chisholm💜
We weren't worthy of her then, and we've proved that we're not worthy of such a brilliant, courageous, caring candidate now. We were all blessed to have her.
grew up on 7th Avenue Park Slope section of Brooklyn and remember Ms Chisholm she was a grand lady

5:30 Only 3 death threats??
Apparently people couldn't put in the effort in those pre-internet days...
It is sad that if you have not heard of someone it is not real and if you did not see them prior to the internet, which is a real thing like reading a book listening to a elder. Just because you did not live during the time that folks were in concentration camps, internment camps of during jim crow does not mean it did not exist or happen please learn read and research not just your history but the history of all those that make up the us and further.
This lady looks like shes straight out of "Get Out" the movie
If she was a trailblazer, why is this the first time of heard of her???
Because you either live under a rock, in your mom’s basement, or under a rock in your mom’s basement.
