    Wow! You are certainly a fishaholic. You’re lucky to be there so close to the area and fish when you please. I’m located in Redwood City, Bay Area. I also fished in the ocean as well for pretty everything out there. Many great memories.
    Fallen down has happened to me many times over the course of the years. What I do is always pack a change of clothes and leave in the car just in case you get wet. Also, pack some bath towels. Feels good when you change into something dry. Just words for thought.

      As long as nothing breaks, it's all good. My car was right there. When I'm in the back country, I have a lot of extra gear for emergencies! With that said, your advice is sound!
      I actually grew up in San Mateo so fishing in the ocean around Half Moon Bay was a regular thing for me. I used to trek out to the far Princeton breakwater during my high school years with regularity. Just being out there was a great day. We also used to fish farm ponds out there as well as the dammed up creek out on Higgins Canyon Road. That was the 80's though! I'm sure a lot has changed. Thank you for checking out my channel. There should be a lot more fishing and hiking to come.

      Right! I have a had spills a lot worse than that in the middle of nowhere! I just got my leg all wet. At least if I had gotten hurt there, my car was only 100 yards away. If I take a bad fall and hit my head climbing around on boulders in the back of a remote alpine lake, potential raccoon and bear food! I've become more cautious facing that type of situation in my old age!

    Amani. Thanks for your videos! Glad you didn’t break you leg! I’m up in Tahoe with my son and want to try some trout fishing tomorrow morning. Any good recommendation? I was thinking of Prosser creek.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  4 года назад +1

      Prosser Creek res. is really easy to get to. The steep bank within a half mile or so of the dam has deep water and you don't have to cast out too far. I like to use 4 foot leaders in that deeper water. If you drive across the dam I found it easier to get to the water but it is far more shallow. The water is warming so the fish may be found deeper.
      It's a farther drive but Jackson Meadow Reservoir was a great experience for me. I found good deep water near the dam but we encountered a lot of snags. I recommend smaller slip sinkers or even small medium size shots if you have that problem.
      We also got nice rainbows right off the shore in Lake Tahoe just off the side of the 89 near Tahoe City. You need to cast far there so shorter leaders work best (2-3 foot). Also good for the shallower water. Good luck!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  4 года назад +1

      For a second, I thought I was going all in! At least my car was right there. I climb around on worse than that at remote alpine lakes and rivers. Add rattle snakes to the mix and look out! That's why I always leave a "where to find me" email with my brother if I turn up missing in remote areas!
      I was inflating the crawler and my leader was about 2 and half feet long. I was counting down 14 before my stuff hit the bottom so it was deeper than it was when we were fishing from shore across the lake off the 89. I mostly shortened my nightcrawler leader so I could cast farther but it all worked out for the better.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027

      The two places I've tried weren't the greatest. This spot was Ok but as you can see, the rocks can be tricky to walk on! I'm still looking for a deeper spot. I would say find a spot with at least 10 feet of water and give it a shot. This spot was fine for that.
      Check out my clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general strategy for deep water reservoir trout" to see how I rig up. My clip "Building a trout tackle box" details the stuff you will need to set up. You will probably need to go with shorter leader, 3' for powerbait and 2' for nightcrawlers, in order to cast farther unless you can find a spot with deep water close to shore. Stick with a small size 18 treble for powerbait and size 6-8 baitholder hook for nightcrawlers(depends on the size of worms.). You can probably get by with just powerbait but browns will hit the crawlers.
      Good luck.

  • @tylerwalker5259
    @tylerwalker5259 4 года назад

    What setup were you using if you dont mind me asking? I went there this evening and it was rough water and I just tried fishing on the bottom with about a 4 foot leader with powerbait and salmon eggs, I'll get one more chance to go tomorrow on my trip to make it count

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  4 года назад +2

      If you look at my clip "My general strategy for deep water reservoir trout", you will see my basic set up. The change I made was trimming my leaders down to 3 feet to allow for farther casting and compensate for the shallower water in the spot we were in. For power bait, I use a tiny size 18 treble hook with just enough powerbait to conceal the hard hook. This seems to matter when looking for larger trout. I also trim my inflated crawler leader down to 2 and a half feet for better casting. If you are in a deeper spot, the one I was in was only about 10 feet, I'd make my leaders a little longer. Get out there early in the morning before lake activity picks up and you will have your best chance. By early I mean early morning twilight! Good luck and I hope you catch some fish!
      I have clips for several fishing destinations in that area on my channel so if you don't have time to hit some of them on this trip, maybe they will be in play next time! Thanks for tuning in.

      @wildernesswithamani1027  3 года назад

      I don't go near Lake Tahoe during the hot Summer Months! This was probably my last trip there until it got colder in the Fall. During the Summer, I am usually hiking up to higher altitude to fish in the backcountry. I fish reservoirs typically late Fall, Winter, and Spring and I only added Lake Tahoe to that schedule last Year. I Think I have 7 clips up for Lake Tahoe now and I caught fish 6 of the times. The first time I only got one little shaker! The reservoirs are going to be getting smoking hot in a few weeks or as soon as the snow and ice start clearing out. Go get some!

      So true! Over the decades I have fished in lakes and streams all around it but I figured you needed a boat, private dock access, or some kind of secret spot to get anything meaningful from shore. We got great fish right off the 89! It will take a while but I plan to scout out more viable fishing locations when it gets cold again. For now, I say try anywhere that's not trespassing!
