Thank you so much for this video. I could relate so much to it! We have a lot of the same loves. I live in a 100+ year old farmhouse in rural KS (built in 1910 actually.) Original wood floors, those thin slats, and old windows with wavy glass! I absolutely love them, they give our home such character. My husband and I don't even mind that they allow our house to 'breathe' a little more than modern windows. This summer, a few of them had become quite weather beaten with chipping paint, rotting sills and even a sash that had fallen apart. We entertained replacing them with new windows but couldn't bring ourselves to do it! So my awesome, handyman husband rebuilt the sash, reglazed the windows, scraped the old paint, filled and/or wrapped any rotted sills and gave them a fresh coat of paint. It was a labor of love for a few weeks but SO WORTH IT!! I love preserving the old...old homes, old furniture...it's a passion of mine. A possible idea for the vent on the wall is to put a little shelf above it with a face piece on the front of the shelf to hide it from view but not block the air flow. It would be fun to decorate too! Love your home. This was the first video I've watched of yours! So glad to have found your channel!

I'd pull the sofa out from the wall and add a small narrow ledge like table or shelf behind it. Just add some books, and a few things on it. That way you do not interfere with the vent flow and filter is still easy to change. I have the same problem in my dining room. I put a buffet in front of it and wood blocks I painted to match floor, so it is not blocking the air flow, keeping it away from wall. could use a scrape piece of wood, stain it. Love the changes and love your room. Well done. Looks warm and inviting, just want to get a book and a cup of tea and relax. Peace! (table no bigger then four inches wide, like a narrow mantle). Could even get a nice decorative support) Peace!

    Bonjour Jenilee,
Maybe a 3 panel screen placed behind the sofa; it would hide the vent and you can find them with pastoral scenes or even one with white cotton panels that you could stain with leaves and such. You are such a talented artist, it would look great.

Your home looks adorable! I love a home that’s country decorated. As for your vent, if the couch is next to the wall, what about a cozy pillow, one of those longer round ones that you can just let sit on the back of the couch, possibly getting 2 if needed for balance. I used to decorate my home all the time for seasons, it I haven’t for awhile. I guess I kind of, like you said, got bored with my home, but I’m starting. I realize I had this pumpkin think that a dear friend made me so I got it out and hung it up. I’m actually looking to see what I still have that I haven’t thrown away to give it some touches. Thank you for the inspiration. Have a blessed day!

You might try to find a vent cover in an old antique brass finish that's more decorative and then it might blend into the art wall? I know I have floor vents that are of antique brass with a scroll design that are more esthetically pleasing than the 80's white ones that cane with the house.

Girl, you can take a long piece a fabric, make a tunnel on top and a tunnel on bottom, run some quarter inch elastic down the top and the bottom, pull it as tight as you need it, sew down the short ends to close it off and you have a slipcover to pop on and off the lamps. No gathering required, the elastic does it for you!! I see so many people doing it the way you do it, but if you get tired of it, you have to pull it all off and do it all over again. With making slipcovers for your lamp shades, you can take them off and wash them anytime, make different fabric pattern

Your lampshade is adorable. I've made lots of shade covers with narrow elastic through a casing at the top and bottom of the fabric, maybe a bit easier than the way you did yours. Is that vent functioning? If it isn't, you could cover it. Also painting it the same color as the wall would make it less noticeable. You do a lovely job of using collected things in your home.

The lamp shade turned out so pretty! Do you use something other than nails to allow you to switch out your artwork so your wall isn't damaged from nails? My first thought about the "vent" wall was a quilt rack...change out the quilts with the season. Quilt racks often have a little shelf that would allow for cute bits to be displayed (like another little mantle). It's really cozy having a quilt hanging. I hesitate to suggest that because I'm not sure if the vents are functional - a quilt may hinder them. Your fall update is so lovely.
