Mike Holton- mad scientist and wood turner extraordinaire! When you were at the resin table explaining your plans, you look like a cross between a college professor and a mad scientist. I love it! 😂
A very clever way to use this piece of Yew Mike, it looked quite average at the start but once we saw & heard your thought processes, everything started to change. I like the copper mesh slightly crumpled between the two pieces as it admirably suits the idea of a lamp. I like the nice simple shaping to the outside of the lamp & also the 'scooped out' shaping to the top. An extremely nice, well thought out 'experiment' for this ultimately lovely piece of Yew with absolutely stunning grain. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
Thanks so much Don, this is one of the ideas that I have had for a long time, I was just waiting for the right inspiration/wood/stars to align to get it done. It turned out better than I could have ever hoped for 😀
Ohmigosh...I LOVE this!!! I've been waiting for you to do a clear resin project, and that honey/amber color with the copper and burl is JUST GORGEOUS! Well done you!!!
Oh wow. This is so beautyfull, the makes it look almost like a star or lava, like frozen flames. that in conjunction with that stunning yew (i love yew)... this has to be one of your best pieces so far.
How totally breathtaking! When first you wiped the surface so it shone I gasped. At my age that doesn’t happen often! A truly stunning piece of art. I’m sure I could never afford such a delight but it’s nice to know the world is a bit lovelier.
Man that's a great one! Multi purpose. A lamp with a dish on the top. Fantastic! Good practice is to tie a knot in the lamp cord inside the hole so the cord can't be pulled out. Or get a locking grommet.
Mike you have excelled yourself that piece is wonderful. That Yew is absolutely amazing too and I love the copper mesh what a great addition talk about thinking outside the box WELL DONE
Hi Mike, what a great idea using the copper mesh. I think we will other turners using copper mesh in their projects. As always Yew had a bright idea design and Yew executed it to produce a stunning Yew resin copper mesh Lamp. Thanks for sharing. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Such a lovely piece for Autumn. The colors and wood grain are gorgeous! Very clever using the mesh to create the illusion, but I'm not surprised by your creativity. Beautifully done and hope your wife liked it. Have a great week! ☺️
It’s lovely Mike. You do come up with some fantastic ideas. Apologies for the delay in viewing - I’m off to middle Granddaughter’s wedding in half an hour. I’m walking her down the isle wearing a full Scottish outfit 🌞
¡Increíble! El patrón de vetas de la madera de tejo combinado con la resina y el cobre crea un efecto visual impresionante. ¡Un verdadero trabajo de arte!
Hello Mike. Another great job. I like how all of the colors compliment each other. The resin, copper mesh, & the yew all blend well for a beautiful table lamp. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley
The swirls in the mesh and the wood, the subtle colours of the transparant resin, your decision to make it into a lamp, flawless, inspired, glorious. :-)
I love it when one of your videos pop up on my screen as i know I'm going to be in for a real treat, and you certainly didn't fail to deliver on this one, another brilliant and very original idea. LOVE it
This is brilliant. I love it. What a beautiful way to show off the wood and have something new and exciting to make. The mesh definitely made it look extra pretty.
That copper mesh was a good call! The little reflective bits where the ends of the wire were sheared off, coupled with the slightly nebulous waves of the mesh inside, give it a real dimensionality, even without the light on. And that's not even mentioning how fantastic the detail on those pieces of wood are.
An excellent use of transparent resin! I'd like to see more transparent and translucent resin-work with wood like this that has too much wonderful stuff going on to hide it in opaque stuff. Good choice!
What a beautiful piece when you put that copper mesh in there, I said what the hell I never thought it would turn out that well. Nice job The grain and the color of that yew is gorgeous. Thanks for another great video.
Absolutely stunning result! That wood is simply gorgeous. The tinted resin and copper mesh really give this lamp a very warm “hue” (pun intended😉) A treat to watch a craftsman at work. Cheers and all the best from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦
Amazing piece . You have a a real talent of finding things and incorporating them into your art in interesting and beautiful ways. Really enjoyed the journey in this video. Turned out perfectly. ❤

28:22 I does look amazing
There is just something about that barrel shape that is so attractive.
Haha thanks for the commentary! I had to go check the bandsaw illusion!! Wow 😃
So much effort into this post I'll pin it so everyone can have a read 😃
Well done Mike, bravery has rewards! I think the better half will claim this one.
Thanks! and indeed she has, must admit, if she didn't I would have 😀

Thanks Vynce 😃

Mine too Cheryl, many thanks, Mike 😀
Yew really knocked that one out of the park! Adding the copper mesh was truly inspired adding a beautiful touch.

Such a striking lamp. The addition of the copper mesh definitely elevates it from the usual wood and resin projects we see on YT.
