"I have a lovely pair of sheet metal cutters, but I havent restored them yet "> I think that encapsulates why your videos are the real thing, Thank you so much and all the best Keith.
Great watching you work Max, I love the fact that you will take the time and effort to entirely rebuild a part that most people would have just spent the money on replacing... brilliant sir, keep up the good work
It's great to see that Kermit continues to evolve. Super video, Max, especially the hinge solution. Really admire the "I'm not even going to paint it" approach to the finishing. 👍
Love watching your videos, mainly because like you I am a landrover enthusiast because I can bend it, enjoy it, tow with it,gather trailer loads of logs from the woods with it and mend it all by myself. There’s no unnecessary electrics or dpf or modules, no lights constantly appearing on the dash, it may not be fast or terribly comfy but to be honest wherever I go there’s normally traffic and they hold me up not the other way around and I can go onto the local farmland into the woods away from everyone. You explain and show us things in a manner that is easy to grasp, looking very much forward to more videos of your additions to Kermit.👍
Brilliant, your fabrication skills always impress.. I have been waiting for more Kermit type content for a while now.. So will be keen to see any more that you do..
More excellent work Max. Glad you kept the dents in the door. Kermit without a few dents just wouldn't look right. Would love to see a video on fixing the shears. I need to make a new set for for myself.
I did something quite similar to this, I found that the latch pin sticking out snagged on stuff, the Defender has a plastic cover thing for this, and the lock started to play up after time taking the load of the wheel, to overcome this I fitted a spare female part of the antiluce mechanism to the door which then closed over the antiluce pin, like the tail gate does, to take the load off of the door lock. I also found if I fitted the spare the other way around it leaves more space to access the handle, but sticks out more. The spare carrier was availible to fit where you have it or in the bottom panel to enable better rearward visibility, which then makes hooking up a trailer difficult, you just can't win sometimes. Really nice engineering, the handrail shape add's some definite class to the job. Grandad would be proud. p.s. I also found the inside of the spare a great place to keep a length of polyprop rope, just in case.
Yes, one of my patrons pointed out the same thing with the lock, my fault for being ignorant of the Defender parts! I only had the door to look at not the rest of the vehicle, but I should have looked it up. I will likely do the same as you did with it.
Great watch. I embarked to do the same for my defender a few years ago. I got as far as cutting the window surround off…I’ll finish it one day. But the trouble is I’ve sold the defender
Fantastic result. I think I enjoyed the door latch the most, love to see how you take something that is difficult, and most would throw away and bring it back to life.
A very enjoyable video Max, talk about a man in his element! The way you brought together the lovingly stored parts and made a new highly functional door is incredible and a real testament to your skills. Loved it! Thanks for sharing! (I have to say, well made video too, good editing skills!)
I was going to mention making one hinge longer than the other so it's easier to locate the first then the second, glad I waited until the end. Brilliant channel Max, I always look forward to your content!
I love the way when you take something apart you understand its mechanical function btw I've watched you since your first upload keep the content coming from Dublin many good wishes
Had a rear door mounted spare and the sunlight uv ages the rubber quite a bit after a while. Ends up crazing the rubber. You might need a wheel cover, just (for pity's sake) don't get one with "One life live it" printed on it! Lovely job Max 👍
Great job Max, as always. Those door hinges could hold the vault door at Fort Knox !. The door catch, personally, I would have let it marinade in a bucket of diesel or oil for a few days, seems like you got yourself into a lot of unnecessary work, but, hey, at least you know how it works and you can be confident of it continuing to do so.
Great project. I would fit removable braces inside top rear left and right trail end to support the wheel weight. When you're going over bumps, that wheel will weight 3 times it's actual weight. See how it goes I suppose. Looking forward to the detachable camper.
Love the door modification, yes you could have built your own more easily, but that is not the point! I look forward to a video about your camper back idea. I have a 1971 S2 109 truck cab with canvas back and am thinking of a simple sleeping platform with flat storage crates beneath, just for the odd night or two away. The original tailgate is good for cooking on. I got an old spare wheel tray and bracket from eBay which riveted in easily on the nearside. You are right, behind the cab is awful for load space, and on the bonnet is worse in my view. I wish I had your workshop!
Great to see you back on Kermit. You are a very clever and thorough engineer. Great to see you using the hedge parts and making them work. Look forward to each of your videos. You need another disco rim to make it look right. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Looks so much better. Great work and I love the small defects you leave in the bodywork. Much like us folks, the scars and aches and pains tell a story.
Great bit of fabrication! If you are going modern tech with central locking then maybe a back-up camera fitted to view through the centre of the spare tyre would be a possibility? Handy for parking up close to anything and for keeping an eye on anything you are towing if you have it switchable as well as/instead of powered when in reverse gear. 👍🏻
Really enjoyed this post Max, but 2 things have come to mind, I would've put some anti sieze on the hinge pins (maybe you did and didn't show it) and I think you need some security to stop anyone from thieving the spare wheel when you've parked up and left Kermit .
I absolutely love the hedgerow parts department!
I want some of the seeds, so I can grow my own Landie Parts.
It's the bioengineering dept.
It's like something from a '70s children's TV show, Max and his magical brambles.
A bloke in his shed. Sheer bliss.
Just imagined your grandad sitting in the doorway watching you great video thanks
Job well done sir ❤
Greetings from Germany everybody ✌️
Thank you , for taking us along. Your workshop is awesome.
I had one years ago where the door check was a piece of chain inside a bit of hose; it worked well.
"I have a lovely pair of sheet metal cutters, but I havent restored them yet "> I think that encapsulates why your videos are the real thing, Thank you so much and all the best Keith.
The hand crank to start the generator is just so apropos for this gentleman's charming style.
Thanks for your videos.
Making something from nothing! I like it ❤
The long awaited Series IV Landrover at last!
Great job, Max. The lock restoration was a kind of side quest.
Old school you can’t beat it ,really clever awesome
Cheery Kermit action for a dreary Friday evening. Thank you.
Once again a superb hours enjoyment. Thanks Max for your inspiration and sharing your skills. Brilliant stuff.
Love seeing Kermit videos, anything no matter how small is an "instant click" from me!
Brilliant craftsmanship, workmanship and creativity
Kermit is rapidly becoming more fancy than my 2011 Landie 😂
Great watching you work Max, I love the fact that you will take the time and effort to entirely rebuild a part that most people would have just spent the money on replacing... brilliant sir, keep up the good work
I always chuckle when you start rummaging in the brambles.😂
It's great to see that Kermit continues to evolve. Super video, Max, especially the hinge solution. Really admire the "I'm not even going to paint it" approach to the finishing. 👍
A huge amount of work to put into a tailgate, but sometimes a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do! Splendid work Max!

Lovely bit of fabrication. Great result!
I miss my old 2A Landy. But the good news is I now have a very battered Range Rover to rebuild. Thanks Max,
That is good news, best of luck with the rebuild. I do miss having a Range Rover.
As always massive admiration, simple ingredients and fantastic skill
Always enjoy a good watch....and this is a good watch...thank you.
I’m in awe of your skill Max. A fantastic result. I am excited to see more work in Kermit. I bet your grandad is watching on.❤👍🏻👌🏻
Hi, great job Max, more PLEASE. Many thanks from Nr Chester.
Nice job Mr Ironthumper
I love anything Kermit related.
Brilliant, your fabrication skills always impress.. I have been waiting for more Kermit type content for a while now.. So will be keen to see any more that you do..
Hinges to the Max!

Great job! Always enjoy your projects!
I think you could build anything.😀🙏
Great video love watching you tinker in your shed 👌
Thanks!
You're welcome and thank you very much also!
You should be proud of your accomplishments there. Loved watching the video. The lock repair was amazing
That's a beautiful truck and a cool spare wheel tailgate build ❤😊
Great video Max thanks for posting
A long job but satisfaction guaranteed!
Money may not grow on trees, but landies certainly seem to grow in hedges... :P
I really enjoyed watching this.
Is the "Dip me in chocolate..." sticker a sneak preview of your new merchandise line?
Looks very smart Max.
You have a wonderful stock of “Spare” parts and take recycling to a new high level.
Excellent job.
Those hinges are on Andrew Camarata’s bread bin.
Motorcycle chain lube - genius. I’m having that.
Great watch. I embarked to do the same for my defender a few years ago. I got as far as cutting the window surround off…I’ll finish it one day. But the trouble is I’ve sold the defender
I love your metalwork and can do. It’s all come on soo so well
Kermit the ‘House Mover’
Bloody indestructible that beast 😃
Love it when Max goes searching in the bushes (storage), never know what he might find 😂
Fantastic result. I think I enjoyed the door latch the most, love to see how you take something that is difficult, and most would throw away and bring it back to life.
Great watching you work Max
Great vision and skill.
superb craftmanship.....i love it!!!!!

Hi Max
Fantastic video your a inspiration ❤
Excellent work, especially resurrecting the lock.
Looks great. And no doubt the spoiler effect of the spare tire will be beneficial in the high speed corners
I was going to mention making one hinge longer than the other so it's easier to locate the first then the second, glad I waited until the end. Brilliant channel Max, I always look forward to your content!
Creeeeeaaaaakkkkkk …The satisfying sound of “I WASN’T ASKING”
Love the Kermit films.
10/10 from the RUclips Welding Appreciation Society - superb fabrication and video production 🙂
I love the way when you take something apart you understand its mechanical function btw I've watched you since your first upload keep the content coming from Dublin many good wishes
Nice job Max.
Always look for a new video. Even better when it's Kermit. Thanks man

I'd say the rubbervon that wheel is already crazy😂
Saw a smart jeep the other day..on the back
ONE WIFE...LIVID
😂
That's a great effort, a many a door probably in better nick has likley been scraped - I love the mend, make better & save attitude on Kermit ✌️
Your a very clever dude Max, good job. Look forward to your next video as always..

Bloody Briliant! A well engineered solution!
Well done Max, a bit of time and effort and you have made a fantastic modification.

You've made a lovely job of new tail gate Max. Looking forward to some more of your modifications.
As always, good job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nice Work
Another great video top work thanks max

Absolutely love the storage facility. And also like others just learned where "losing ones temper" came from
Spare on the bonnet brings back memories for me too.
Fab result there

It looks great!
Great project, well executed. Must have been very satisfying.
Looks great good job.
Oooh, yes stinging nettle. Every bit as nice as my scrap pile. A bit of character is like a badge of honor. It finished up very nice.
Good work well done.
Lot of work and even more video editing, cheers
Another fantastic job done on Kermit looks brilliant and functional grandad would have loved it to well done Max 🔩🛠️🍺👍👍
As Always enjoyed your video , never a dull moment with you and Kermit ...all the very best Max from Sri Lanka
