The brown spots on the American Idol one is probably burn. I used to work in injection molding and white plastic (especially ABS) is prone to burning during injection. It’s caused by shearing heat when the barrel temperatures are too high/injection speed is too fast. If the mold isn’t well-ventilated, the gasses created from molten plastic won’t have anywhere to escape to during the injection phase, which usually results in combustion within the cavity.
