  • For the first time since the type's retirement from military service, a Westland Lynx AH.7 displayed to the British public. XZ179, civil reg: G-NCKS, was part of the flying display at this year's Shuttleworth Collection Season Premiere air show. The aircraft landed after its display and then departed at 1700 hrs, following the main flying display.
It's incredible how manoeuvrable a helicopter can be, and this is no where near what it's fully capable of. When it flew in the hands of the Army Air Corps many years ago, it was seen doing rolls and loops!
Great to have it back on the air show circuit!

The pilot was over correcting and wobbling throughout the flight TBF.

@@LZE. You are correct, he was over controlling throughout the whole flight. Some pilots have less finesse than others, that was messy flying to the point of dangerous.
I would not want him flying a helicopter of mine nor would I want to be in a helicopter with him. Hard to believe he was ex military.
If he had been flying a helicopter with lower power to weight he may well have over pitched when he made that awful zero forward speed vertical decent at 2.30.

Nothing to do with ground effect. Ground effect helps not hinders unless you get recirculation when hovering over long grass at a height lower than the diameter of the rotor disc. The grass was 'carpet' short.
