I live in Oshkosh and for the past decade I had the privilege of just seeing both flying overhead. This year it was an honor to see both in person as well as the Lancaster.
I grew up in oshkosh and with EAA (had a grandma who worked at the air museum for 22 years, i was in the very first young eagles class in 1993) after moving away for almost a decade, i havent missed a year since returning back to Oshkosh. And it only gets better every year
My dad was a Canadian and served as a navigator on a Lancaster out of RAF Ludford Magna, No. 101 Squadron RAF in 1944-45… He and his Canadian crew flew 30 missions (mostly at night with some during the day)… I have his log book and photos from some of those missions… seeing that Lanc taxi and takeoff is very special for me…
That’s a wonderful story! as a Brit I’m proud of what your father did for my freedom.Seeing that Lancaster flying is a tribute to your father and all the other brave men who flew these planes.🇨🇦🇬🇧👏👏🙏🙏
Was at the Oshkosh Airshow in the '90s, lugging my heavy over-the-shoulder Panasonic and loved it. Great planes, then and now. But your beautiful camera work, fast eye and composures here sure beats the crap 'outa that VHS-era work of mine . . .
Thanks for the vid! I went with some friends in the summer of 1985 (hey Ian!). Fifi was there along with a bunch of Mustangs, B-17's and a Tigercat (what happened I thought there were two still airworthy?) The highlight was Concorde. Watching it come in and then do a touch and go and two low passes was pretty awesome! It was hot and sticky and there were a zillion people there. Good times!
EAA shared her departure on monday on their channel. It is such sweet symphony(well they all are. Getting to see a b52 take off in Oshkosh is up there with the concorde in 85 or the sr-71 in 89 for me though
@@lincolnkinsman4828 watching the BBMF & RCAF Lancasters flying together at Coningsby in 2014, RR or Packard Merlins its still a beautiful one of sound
Great seeing two B-29s and the Lancaster together, this Lanc was several years ago in the UK and flew with the other one together. Learned about the PBJ-1J, this seems to be more of an ground attacker than a pure bomber like the standard B-25. I always like the B-25 because it is so loud, the B-17 seems like a whisper bomber compared to the B-25. Also the P-51C was cool, the B and C variants are as rare as the Spitfire Mk1 or 2, I had the honour of seeing 3 Mk1 and one Mk2 Spitfires being started up in front of me all at once, and then taking the skies with 8 another later built Spitfires at Duxford.
That PBJ is indeed for ground attack, but mostly it was used in the antishipping role during the Pacific campaign. But its nothing compared to the earlier H model Mitchell gunships - it carried, aside from the machine guns, a lightweight 76mm gun!
Great camera work. Good framing and focus. Proper shutter speed, spinning propellors should be a blur! Very efficient editing. I can't imagine the fear one would have when seeing HUNDREDS of B-29's or Lancaster's headed towards the city you were in!
At some point in the mid-to-late '90s, I witnessed one or two whole rows of Basler BT-67s lined up on the FBO ramp at New Century Air Center, Gardner, KS (former Naval Air Station Olathe,KS; former Naval Air Reserve Center Olathe, KS; former Gardner, KS Industrial Airport) I had gone there after dropping my wife at Kansas City International, taking a look at my old NR stomping grounds. I was astounded to see all those Gooney Birds, seemed to be at least 2 dozen of them, refitted out with turboprop engines! VERY strange at the time.😮😊
I got to see two AC47s on the ground at an airstrip at Ben Thuy in 67 and one working out at night near Ben Tre in 67. It looked like a red wavy laser beam that originated in the inky black night sky, reaching down to the ground. Too far away for sound, though.
The only rare warbirds in this video are the Helldiver, the Lancaster, the B-29's, the OV-10D, and the C-1A. The P-51C, the B-25J's, and the C-47 are not rare warbirds.
Well one of the b25s is actually made up as a PBJ, and it was the first b25 flown by a full woman crew, so yeah it is actually rare. Ill give you the c47. And the airworthy mustangs are becoming rarer and rarer. 30 years ago we would get 40-50 mustangs. Now we are lucky to get 10
@@randemness2680 Even so, that B-25, Devil Dog, isn't a rare bird, and airworthy Mustangs keep increasing their numbers, as more airframes return to the skies. Also, the A-26 has a good sized total number of airworthy airframes, so it took isn't a rare warbirds.
And mustangs? Yes there are i think maybe up to 200 deemed airworthy. But almost half of them are in museums or on display and dont fly. Dont misconstrue plenty of planes with plenty of planes than can actually fly and travel and do airshows. I grew up playing on the aluminum overcast b17 as she was rrstored to airworthy touring. In 1993 she left the eagle hangar, and went ontour across the world. Sadly she returned home on trucks from ohio because she is no longer airworthy. She is still an airworthy frame. But she most likely will never fly again
I guess it's a relative term. Every crash reduces the number by one, at least for a number of years. I remember when there were a gaggle of 51s and a number of P-38s. Now there's only a few 38s. Numbers of P-40s, and the various Cats have gone down.

I'm English and have never been to WI.
I have a good friend in Oshkosh who sends me videos and updates.
Thank you Oshkosh

You've got some nice catches here. Always a pleasure to see the Lancaster at AirVenture. Thumbs up!
I was the crew member on the C1A on the Starboard side wing! That is such an AWESOME aircraft! Thanks for the GREAT video!
Thanks for the comment!
It was great to see a C-1 for the first time, hope to see it again soon!

Nowhere else in the world will you see 2 B-29s and a Lancaster flying in formation.😊
Back in 2015 we had 2 Lancaster and a Vulcan in formation!!!
Excellent video thanks for sharing 👍
fantastic footage,4 RR Merlins on song on the Lanc cannot be beaten
Sweet v 12 times four music... I concur!
4x Packard built Merlins

Excellent video. Really nice.
That's really a nice Helldiver.
Thanks for the video! I haven’t seen FiFi in awhile, since my dad died. He was a member of the Confederate Air Force, on the B-17 crew.
Awesome video to show some of the history that is at Airventure evey year❤
Thank you for great video. I was also at Oshkosh but had to stay behind public line. You had some great spots 😊
Great seeing "Miss Belle" in the air again...USS Independence 1977 Med.
Loved it this year.

Many years ago I had the privilege of talking to a former B-25 pilot. He commented that it was so loud, it would give God a headache!

Nice to see VRA there, too.
What a beautiful machine the Navy Mitchell is.
Superb many thanks for sharing👏👏🙏🙏 It’s heartwarming to think the Lancaster was flying with two B29s from the uk 🇬🇧👏👏

It makes you wonder what if the B-29 was introduced first in the European Theater of Operations in WW2...
from Toronto ... I ♥ VERA
Thank you.
Good to see.....Thanks very much......
Old F-4 Phantom ll Shoe🇺🇸
I want to fly that COD. Love that bird.
woww, cool aircrafts
Great video
So, why no footage of the Spitfire and Hurricane? They flew 3 times.
Wow. Just wow
"So how many .50 cals do you want on your plane ?"
15:50 - "Yes"
I caught the p51 at 9:54 over my house yesterday

It's amazing that these old warbirds are still flying. I wonder how they find replacement parts for these planes.
They don’t, that’s why there’s so few that do

1 of 2 flying Lancasters in the world, with the other one being in rhe uk and flying at most airshows
🇬🇧 ❤ the best rr Merlin’s sound
What is find sad is that there are so few big birds left in flying condition
Still no ID captions!
Im 15 but i work for the caf ( they own most the planes in the video) i get to work on a TBM avenger for the capital wing
I’m the 500th like wish I could have gone to Oshkosh with my work.
❤❤❤❤❤
It is hard to believe that only two B-29s still fly. Sad.
Very lucky there are now 2. For 35 years there was only 1. Extremely expensive to restore and maintain, its not a Cessna !
Sore that a26 invader at Duxford
they need a B-17 also
^
Except that TWO flying B.17's HAVE wiped out thru carelessness recently
Look it up
.
I thought Lancasters only flew at night
After the RAF Got Mustang III's, Bomber command flew by day as well.
Beautiful planes but metal fatigue.

No she was cleared and returned to the air in may thankfully
No, the B-24 is in maintenance.

Did you just say the a-26 has a good amount of airworthy frames? Less than 100 is a good amount? Only 16 deemed airworthy. Ok
Sorry i mean 16 flying
