In 84 I was working Catapults on the USS Constellation CV-64 when one of these babies came aboard. It was in the Indian Ocean and must have been a Brit Admiral or dignitaries. We were used to our Sea Kings and Sea Knights which were much larger and lumbering (although the CH-47 is very fast too). This little hot dog helo approached the ship perpendicular at high speed then snap turned to port at the last second while simultaneously dropping onto spot #2 in one fluid motion. All of us flight deck airedales were totally impressed. Our Sea Kings came in slow and hovered a while before gently touching down. The pilot kept the rotor rpm’s high and they dusted off about 20 minutes later in one hell of an aggressive sweeping left turn away from the ship. I will always remember the unique sound of its main rotors at full power as well as a smell it had that was I suppose it’s hydraulic fluid? A very cool helo indeed.
I LIVE WHERE THIS WAS FILMED !!! At the beginning you see the 'missiles' have 'blue eagles' logo on them, its one of the top 5 best helicopter display teams in the world ^^ my father was head of the display team from 1989-1996 flying the army westland lynx :DDD
"Doing barrels and so in a helicopter is a 2 man job" no... its a 2 man job if you dont have HUD, wich most modern combat helos have those days. The Lynx is a wonderfull copter tought..

These are bloody brilliant bits of kit mate, spent 9 years as groundcrew, in the Army Air Corps with these.
The smell was burning oil, the RR Gem engines burned quite a bit due to rear engine seals that kinda didn’t…!
those aerobatics are bloody insane... I LOVE IT!
First time I ever flew in anything was an army cadet in one of these. I also learnt that day I would never get air sick
Loved flying in the Lynx, (sportscar of the skies), with the AAC, and this footage is fantastic.
Mm Platoon remix by William Orbit. Was probably heavy in the clubs around when this was filmed 👍
