My all time favorite Behemoth album. I can't believe how CHUGGY the sound is. Nergal's vocals are outright maniacal at some points and the guitars legit sound like a chainsaw. Kinda reminds me of Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales. Not to mention the machinegun drumming and the magical atmosphere provided by Celina. What a absolute masterpiece.

I love this album. It's a pagan black metal classic! Truly amazing music, awesome guitar tones and thicker pummeling drums, great vocals. My favorite early Behemoth album, hands down.
What a rare feat; to excell in both genres; the early lo fi albeit wonderfully produced, Black Metal genre...and to be so respected in the Death Metal genre of today. From the 90's to now, BEHEMOTH have done nothing but record albums with integrity and passion. Good on you, Nergal! Amazing album!

this album is absolutely great, like everything else Behemoth has ever done. these black metal elitists in the comments are pissing me off. Behemoth has most certainly evolved with each album, becoming slightly better and more original with each. those who are complaining that their death metal stuff sucks, grow up. the band has progressed. what's the point of even being a band if you aren't going to change a little bit each time and better yourself? The Satanist in my opinion is one of the greatest albums of all time and a flat out masterpiece. I say Behemoth is at their peak in terms of originality and musical content. they're still plenty dark and the black metal influence is most definitely still there, but they've incorporated many new influences to reach the top of their game.
Actually, it's hard to say they progressed. Here, every song has its own identity, it's own sound, subtlety, atmosphere, aggression, aesthetic and organic sound, while with most of the newer albums, the songs form one giant mass of sound, where all instruments compete with each other as to which is the loudest, fastest and most brootal, complete with sterile digital studio production. Compare this to Demigod, for instance, you will see what I mean. At least the last two albums were better in that the songs were more dynamic, diverse and above all, interesting, but between this album and the one before the latest, sorry, there was no progression. It was just Nile/Morbid Angel.
I like Behemoth. But they went on to become Poland's clone of Morbid Angel's "Gateways to Annihilation" phase. Not bad at all, but certainly not original. Their stuff up to and including Satanica is their best.
Nergal must be the most tallented extreme metal vocalist ever Each album and style change they went through is tomething I am thankful for. I love all of their releases.

For me Grom are masterpiece album. I listen behemoth first time satanica album then I listen to grom. But nergal says grom album are to melodic, yes but fast too. Grom for my opinion very different style from the other pagan BM. At one moment I heard a little similar typical to The Satanist album. Maybe one day behemoth will remixed grom album..

My first acquaintance with Behemoth begun with ...From the Pagan Vastlands, Sventevith and Grom, very deep, atmospheric and emotional releases, filled with that magical solitude feeling. Satanica is technically great, very polished and thought out, but it was a beginning of a new era, completely different one.
Never listened to the BM era Behemoth because I always thought it was gonna be a copy/worship of Mayhem/Gorgoroth/etc., but now I finnaly went to listen to it and while I was certainly right, it is very good stuff and has unique elements that makes it even better.
There’s no way this album is “a copy” of anything. It holds its own already and it’s power and beauty establishes it as one of the greats of the Pagan Black Metal genre. Duh
youre totally right. The labels are for the fans though. For ease & simplicity when describing wholly separate forms of metal, hence why theres got to be some dichotomy between black & death metal making blackened death/deathened black. But as a musician i come from where Nergal comes from..when you're in the studio you're not thinking what genres which, you're ripping out kickass songs & stampin' approval. Their sound changed but they are professional badasses, who haven't made a bad album.
Behemoth is like find wine. It gets better and better as it ages. I love looking back on their old stuff and comparing it to the new. It's so interesting.

You make it sound like they've stripped down their sound into something degenerative. You'd say the same about this record if it gained any popularity.

For me, this one, in the first songs is like to listen a mix of Mayhem with Immortal and Abbath voice, the rest of the album I can say remember me other bands, is very rare. But I like!

For me, this one, in the first songs is like to listen a mix of Mayhem with Immortal and Abbath voice, the rest of the album I can say remember me other bands, is very rare. But I like!
