Had the same issue on my e36 328is. After several attemts to fix, including crankshaft sensor, I pulled the wire harness out. Seems a rat had made a lunch of the wires. Spliced back together and started and runs beautifully. Secret is, to wrap the wiring with tin tape, in order to shield the wires like originally done from the factory.
The crank sensor has o-ring that can go bad, when it goes bad oil squirts onto the censor connector and floods it. If you dont clean the connector you will still have short circuit at the plug.
The way this car sounded when attempting to turn on and didn’t it’s the same sound my e39 525i 2003 bmw sound jut I only get code p0735 5gear. This happend over a over heating. Possibility I only needed a temp. Sensor ?
i have the m62tub44, e39 01' 540i. I'm getting P0345 and P0342,. Camshaft Position Sensor "A. My dad was driving it when it shut down. He said the engine shut off while he was driving. could it be camshaft/crankshaft sensors? The diagnostic from the auto shop was not very helpful, as they suggested either timing chain guides or he actual camshaft/crankshaft was broken.

Nathan's DIY Garage mines is doing the same exact thing I haven't checked the wiring yet but I think that's the problem online I change all the sensors that goes to those plugs so I cannot be the sensors has to be wiring. How did you figure it out?

own a 2000 BMW 740li. I parked it for three months. Went to drive it. Battery was dead. Replaced battery and the car will crank over but not start. Replaced crank shaft sensor, still no start. I have no fire nor fuel. Suggestions?
As long time BMW owner myself,bmw sometimes acts idiot,you come from work park car next morning doesnt start it happens alot here what you do,''if your car revving ,turn but not starting ,just continiue to rev,,i know you will thinking you killing the battery ,no worry just keep revving it will start but not trun key 10 seconds ant run off,noo,kep it reving,let it 1 minute long,it will start ,if still dont and gives you code then you must fix what the codes must be fix'
Hi great videos you made and they are very helpful. I have problem with my BMW e39. Alternator get brocken and was giving 18V. I think he just mess up because now BMW didn't want start. Cranks but not start. I change crankshaft and still same problem. No code errors. It looks now that engine is not getting fuel. Please do you have some solution what I should check.
luk p there is a fuse next to the ecu under the passenger side cowling under the cabin air filter housing, it's a 5 fuse holder and i bet one of the fuses is blow

Can be that filter on the back next to weel is stuck? I didnt change this one and before alternator brake down car was giving information low fuel something like that.

+danekeeper1 If you listen to the engine when i tried to start it you could hear it kick back on the starter, so its not reading the sensor correctly, i think first thing in the morning i am going to pull the inspection cover in the bell housing and look at the flywheel, there was alot of oil on the flywheel when looking in the crank sensor hole, the problem is that there is several items powered off that power wire to the crank sensor, i cant see it having a ecu problem with no other codes and no warning.
I really dont know , it could be a problem but i dont think that is all the problem, i just wen tout and tried to start it again and its kicking back on the starter like its out of time, unless it broke a chain guide and jumped a tooth but its soo unlikely
Im doing research now, it seems like tons of people have the problem but no one says how to fix it, i guess i will be the first to fix it and put the video up lol
Great video Nathan, looking forward towards the updates. Question, I have a code. Camshaft position B. Circuit. Is this hard to replace? I replaced my thermostat and clutch fan this weekend, my cooling issues should be no more. Also 1 more thing. I have a 5 speed 530i 2003. When I'm in 4th gear doing about 65mph on the freeway and I floor it, the rpm shoot from about 3k rpm to 5rpm then drops back down... Can someone please tell me why this happens? Thanks. Is it the camshaft position sensor doing this?
+HemP Fourtwenty Hello the exhaust cam sensor is know to fail on the m54, its fairly easy to replace, you need to use a oem, or at least a name you have heard of, otherwise the check engine light will not go off, is your clutch slipping in the higher gears???
+Nathan's DIY Garage When I change gears and hit the gas, And the rpm shoot up then fall back down then go up like normal. Also if I coasting at 45 in third and I floor it, the rpms shoot up then drop down and then the car responds. I will try to make a video.
YEAH I JUST NOTICED SORRY. IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ON MINE . I REPLACED MY CRANK POSITION SENSOR AFTER FIXING MY DME AND IM STILL GETTING CODE P0335 . I ALSO JUST BOUGHT THE CAM POSITION SENSOR WHICH IM GOING TO INSTALL TODAY . IF IT KEEPS THROWING THE CODE IM GOING TO TRY WHAT YOU DID .

My car has the same symptom and code. replaced the sensor, problem still exists. Did you find out what wrong with it yet?
did you check valve gasket seals for leaks and oil in spark plug tubes

why don't you pull out the wiring diagram and check for shared ckt's

You can buy that plastic pipe off ebay, for now you can use rubber line for fuel but eventually it will break down
