Black Keys Why You Read The Contracts 1st Kids
I find it pretty bizarre that both sound so bitter and without any sympathy for an indie label. Especially after having such a huge success and having been in the music biz for some time now. The first record with an indie label is never favorable to the artist, even if there is a strong following. The first release is to show how well your music sells. If it does well, then that sets the stage for your second album with a much better negotiating position. You move up the ladder. If the label gets lucky with the first album and it outperforms, then that extra cash helps to fill the holes of other releases that got less lucky. You have to be pretty self-centered to dismiss indie label economics.
