They're humans from 1999 who got infested with a time-traveling disease and transformed into partial Warframes by a scientist from the future in order to survive. They aren't your player character, they're more like those romanceable party members in an RPG.
There's like 12 different ways to play the game. Want fast paced space fights, hack and slash combat, parrying mechanics, fluid movement, and broken guns? Much more than that
Still, it is Destiny 2 that gets nominated for 2024. A game which is obviously stagnated and the player base is slowly decreasing... ah, the greed, the marketing of having Sony and a huge share of the market still speaks volumes when "deciding" who's competing for best games and who stays out.
For everyone: Yes its the same game. Yes it has lore and a Story Arc like Destiny 2. Yes it is confusing at first. Yes you should switch if you are disappointed about Destiny 2 lately. Yes every update is free. Yes you should play it

This is one of the very few games that doesn't spoonfeed you the story and needs effort for you to understand everything that has happened so far. The game respects the player's intelligence so much that DE often releases ARGs for the people who wants more story content/info.
Just completed the quest part of 1999 and my mind is blown!! I love that this game grabs and immerses you into an insane lore and combat system. The Man in the Wall has to be the wildest, deepest and most frightening mysterious being I've seen in a game. That dude legit creeps out my soul. Helluva great job DE!!
If you told me years ago that in Warframe the current story is we time travel to 1999 thanks to old men yaoi to stop an evil boyband from spreading an infection through their music, and maybe date one of warframes while you're at it, I would've asked what they were on, and I want some.

Na its sick, just takes a while to get into, cause you still have to start with all the old old content, where the story begins, but the meat of it, where it starts to make sense and unravel is like a hundred hours in, which is an issue that turns off a lot of new players, but I think its so worth it, nothing else even remotely like warframe out there.
The lore and story is the least important thing about the game you don’t need to know it to enjoy the game (I got over 1k hours in it and only have half decent lore knowledge 😂)

@@lykosvon9142 lots of catch up mechanics these days, you can be decently ready for 1999 in a month or so, if you like the game enough to play regularly.
It's not like a lot of other MMOs that heavily capitalize on FOMO to keep players addicted until they permanently burn out. I quit for five years and came back in January but I felt right at home when I got back. Yes there's timed events with timed rewards (1999 isn't one of those), but those rewards always return at some point. There are only a small few things you can truly miss out on, such as the annual cosmetic items you get if you buy a ticket to Tennocon, or the original Founder's pack items which the company sorta regrets making so exclusive at a contractually-binding level. Basically the new player experience gets better every day, especially under the new team creatively lead by former Community Director Rebecca Ford (AKA Space Mom). The team is now very well-in tune with what new and old players need and want. It's still a bit confusing to get into at first but they keep working at making it less confusing while maintaining the same depth that veteran players want.
This looks great but I haven't played in years so I know there would be a least 50 hours of grind I would need to do to experience what looks to be a really cool setting.
1999 is just one of the great expansions they had. it's not even the best story quest imo, the ones that come before it are even better. so it's not like you are only playing to get to 1999.
kid goes into void> void gives powers and releases void monsters. we make deal with giga void monster to escape yet it creates a fractured timeline where we both escaped (operator) and didnt (drifter). in order to defeat the emperor we had to break giga spirts deal. now he mad and has travelled back in the past by the the tony stark of this world so the spirit doesnt destroy the universe but it went wrong now we go after. THERE IS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE but thats the gist
The only looter shooter that easy to understand is The Division 2 man if only they dont make Star Wars Outlaws and just make The Division on space. hope they now focus with The DIvision 3 but i should say, Warframe is the best on going looter shooter since its keep giving new and fresh contents than The Division 2 or Destiny 2
If you haven't played the game before, there's so much to do in it before you can access this. Like hundreds of hours of stuff. If you have played it though, make sure you've done all the New War stuff as well as the Duviri Paradox quest. You can start it from the codex if you've done all the story missions leading up to it.

Most of its lore is all over the place. But in the last few years, the lore got more linear. I swear the devs for the most part just slap any random BS they think about in the game and try to make up some lore later.
To clarify, there's a *ton* of content, and this patch in particular will take quite a while to get to, but you won't have any trouble catching up at whatever pace is comfortable for you. Most of the new weapons and such that get added are largely just giving you more tools, rather than hugely stronger ones-- there has been power creep, of course, but you don't need anywhere near a maxed loadout to reach endgame, so there aren't any huge obstacles.
Yes and no, the OG war frames where "humans" with their mind striped away by the orokin. These new protoframes in the 1999 are NOT the OG warframes, just the prototypes in their own timeline.
It's a damn shame about their engine. This would look so much better on Unreal or the Decima engine. Still, can't be picky I guess. Looking forward to romance with Eleanor. Tongue and all 😆
Idk i feel like the graphics are already amazing at max potential. At some point your eyes can barely tell the difference between graphics, plus youre gonna be spending most of the time being blinded by particle effects so why bother?
