    There was some discussion on IG when I post these results, that possibly why I didn’t shoot as well was the target color on a cloudy day. I had ran out of my normal targets, and I tried to copy my last one. It resulted in the weird dull shade you see in the video. It’s not an excuse as to why my shooting was off, but rather a possibility.

      I recently found that I shoot better using the old-fashioned bullseye target. I think I focus more on the small black center.

    • @j_c_hunt
      @j_c_hunt  5 месяцев назад

      I may give that a try. I normally try to aim for center of the center Diamond, or at the point of the Diamond. Aim small, miss small. But I can see where a different target might help to improve accuracy

      @@j_c_hunt I definitely shoot better at a smaller target with only one center. I can still whiff, but it’s definitely cut down on them.

    Another great video. I’ve got some Acme cast, coated, 300 grains arriving Monday. I’ve really got to study the books and charts. Unique has always been a daily shoot loads and H110 and 2400 my hunting (power) loads. I’ve never loaded any over 265 grain so experiment time.
    Look forward to your 1911 and M 10 projects. Again, great video.

    I’ve quite enjoyed the work on the Ruger. Thanks for taking us along for the journey! Now looking forward to the 1911 and especially the work with the 38 Special.

    love Ruger revolvers in 45colt, the S&W mod 10 and 1911's. I think this is my kind of channel! I watch your vids in the snow rich forest of Norway.

    Awesome video brother! Looks like speed isn't everything... Yup saw that 2400 was in stock at Brownells. Free hazmat right now too! That Ruger is looking sharp...can't wait for your next project. Hey will be cool to see some S&W Model 10 .38 Special stuff... especially since I got that old pre model 15. Hope you have a great weekend!

    Hi there. Great video. Have been loading for the 45 colt for about 50 years, use the same loads, When I was younger I experimented a bit and used heavy loads of 2400. Amazing performance. I use Lyman 452424 almost exclusively. I'm mixing Lino type with scrap lead left over from stained-glass people, mixed 50/50 comes out to about the same as the old Lyman number 2 lead. Try a thin piece of wool felt under your bullet. Seems more consistent. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the video

    I have a similar Ruger BH, 45 LC, with the 4 - 5/8 " barrel. Like you, I installed a SBH hammer, plus a stainles-steel grip frame. I also shoot similar loads: 255 SWC and 260 SWC over various charges of Unique. Your grips are nice. Mine has the Hogue finger-groove rubber grips.

      Thanks! I got the grip blanks from a friend of mine who’s a stock maker. I shaped them when I did the grip frame swap.

    1050 fps with a 255gr bullet is a standard pressure 45 colt load safe for any saa revolver (not black powder frame)

    I have a S&W model 29 that doesn’t like Unique at all, but will shoot fantastic with 2400 loads. Maybe it’s just me, but heavier loads with Unique seems smokier and have a little different recoil signature

    • @j_c_hunt
      @j_c_hunt  4 месяца назад

      I’ve noticed the smokiness with Unique also, but I personally can’t tell much of a difference(or haven’t noticed) in recoil as much when shoot loads of Unique and 2400 that push the same speed. Something I may try and pay more attention too.

    Just got my first .45 Colt, a Ruger Vaquero (old) and it is a blast. Just have been reloading a little over a year now. Using 230 gr and 200 gr lead so it can be used in my 45 acp loads. What is the most common weight for the 45 Colt ? Thanks

    • @j_c_hunt
      @j_c_hunt  4 месяца назад +2

      250-255 grain is probably the most common in cast lead. You’ll find a lot of options in that range either when buying already cast bullets or molds to cast your own. The good thing about the Old Vaquero is it’ll take the same large frame Ruger loads as a Blackhawk, unlike the new vaqueros.

    Always tell the distance to your target. Otherwise we have no clue if your “accuracy” is anything to brag about.

    • @j_c_hunt
      @j_c_hunt  4 месяца назад +1

      All my shooting from the bench is done at 25y. No bragging at all. Just trying to show what works for me, when I’m on top of my game. Some days I’m on top, some days I’m not.
