Dale Jarrett is one of the nicest guys. Met him in 93 or 94 at Michigan. He was still driving the number 18 interstate batteries car for Joe Gibbs at the time
I have a personal memory of Dale when I was a Legends Car driver and Dale Jr. was ass well. Dale Jr. was in his car on the launching pad right next to the pit wall. I was behind the wall as an observer and Dale Sr. was standing over the wall, right in front of me watching his son, waiting to get the race going. I suddenly noticed that the "passenger side" door was not fastened and knew it could sling out going into those "left-hand-turns". So, I tapped Dale Sr. on the shoulder and when he turned, I pointed to the door. Dale, immediately rant out and secured the door and when he returned, he turned back around and thanked me for pointing it out. Just seeing him there, with such joy on his face to be watching his son , was a priceless moment for me.
Was a big NASCAR fan on this day, and Dale was my man. Last race I watched that year... I was scared for the rest of the drivers! If Dale Earnhardt could die in a race car the rest of them didn't have a chance.............
Indeed; but when the big one erupted with about 30 laps remaining in the race, everyone involved was able to walk away, though Tony Stewart was rushed to the hospital with a mild concussion and a shoulder injury. Under strict doctor supervision, Tony would race the following week at Rockingham. On the other hand, when Dale, Sr. hit the wall, his head went forward into the steering wheel, and when Ken Schrader hit him in the side of the car, Dale's head went sideways, causing his spine to sever from his brain, killing him pretty much instantaneously. As Dr. Steve Bohannon, the doctor who appeared alongside Mike Helton at Daytona later that evening, would explain "He had what I feel were life-ending-type injuries at the moment of impact, and basically nothing could be done for him".
I can't believe its been a long time since Dale Earnhardt has been gone so a long time. He will always be a memory in my heart. God Bless him and his family and his son the Jr is falling in his dad's footstep.
I’m wondering if due to past injuries and being the man dale Earnhardt that he was with laps winding down him watching Mikey and jr he just didn’t loosen up his belts for comfort
He always wore them a little loose to be able to see better, like maneuver his head to see the mirrors and the side better. Not sure why he did that at such a dangerous place as Daytona though.
Always liked DJ, as others have said, class act.

Never the same. However, the safety improvements have been large.

This gets morbid after a while.
