Slay and his coaches were geniuses. No single leg attempts-which Saitiev ALWAYS ALWAYS turns into HIS takedown and frequently BACK POINTS. Slay blasted in on the doubles-no knees on mat-and he unweighted BOTH Saitievs feet/legs instantly. When that wrestler-maybe best ever(Saitiev) has one free leg-and both has opponents arms "tied up on his legs" his opponent is screwed! Slay was GOOD- Powerful SOB-more even than the average Russia-with a KILLER DOUBLE that immediately unweights BOTH LEGS-dumps his opponent all but onto his back.Yeah try getting cute with both feet off the mat and with your back headed toward mat! SLAY BEAT HIM-simple as that. He did not beat the German-fought him to a standstill -but lost because of his inexperience with those WEIRD RULES(German was good-very good) not unlike why Alexander Karelin lost-unfamiliar with rules-karelian was not really beaten but he lost This was THE OLYMPICS! No fluke-he took him. down TWICE-quick strike takedowns-probably underestimated Slay-but not TWICE!
Fluke?? He took him down TWICE- same move! Exactly the move that should be used against Saitiev-who ALWAYS ALWAYS turned good penetration singles-into HIS TAKEDOWN- frequently with back points! Oh B Saitiev-maybe best ever-all classes-with John Smith there too.
@@willflum2847 that's why it was a fluke. The fluke was that Saitiev wasn't prepared at all. No way Slay wins a second time. Still fantastic prep by Slay.
Slay was on another level that few months beating Joe Williams with that same double. Satiev was vulnerable to a blast double Joe Williams 99 worlds match. Slay was a tough matchup for Satiev short stocky extremely explosive but also extremely smart. Slay wrestled a smart smart match. Love Gable but he’s way off here.
Joe Williams lost to Satiev at the world championships in 1999 by a score of 4-3. Brandon Slay beat Joe Williams at the Olympic trials. There is no reason for anyone to overlook Brandon Slay or not take him seriously.

If it wasn’t for Slay, Saitiev would have 3 Olympic golds. It was just Brandons time!
but he have 3 olimpic golds - slay took 4 th from him
Are we just gonna ignore the fact saitiev competed with a major injury?
Which makes Burroughs more legendary for winning worlds on a reconstructed ankle

How about a breakdown of the Larry Owings vs Dan Gable match ?
Brandon Slay win was a fluke.
So was Owings win over Gable...

That’s not a fluke. It’s bad planning and coaching. If you told me Satiev felt so unstoppable that he didn’t both scouting Slay I wouldn’t be shocked

Nope Busavair had more points on him sudden explosion only but out 10 9 times Busavair beats any American wrestler
Busavair can stop any double leg
