This is like entering the world of the unknown... The one place you would never have dreamt of venturing into had it not been for the pandemic! The things we have had to do...and you were very brave attempting a haircut on yourself!
Solid 9, I did the same on my DIY except my wahl clippers came with instructions to go the other way. Start at the bottom with lower attachments and work up. I have cut my hair 3 times now and have to say I think the 1st cut was the best lol great video, stay safe out there.
It is not perfect, but for a first timer I'll give you a solid 8. I watch your video because I plan to buy my own hair clipper and cut my hair myself. I enjoy your video.
It looks good! I've been doing my own for a few weeks now started with a four built my confidence. Went down to a 1.5 this week think its the sweet spot without being too risky.
Gotta love the confidence! Lol the barber terms... “natural part”, “baseline trim”.... very detailed step by step. Rating: 7/8, due to patchiness at the nape & sides. Otherwise, good job!!!
I've been cutting my own hair now since the COVID started, some cuts are better than others, though my hair trimmers are not the best, and I've ordered some better one. Just waiting now for my hair to need another cut so I can try them out. I hope I won't need to pay for a haircut again.
You inspired me this afternoon! I will start for the second time ,because the first time my head looked more like a battlefield :)) !, pray for me! Thank you for posting your video, it inspires the courage to get started! better late than never!
Great job Doc..the GFI outlet is for your protection while around the sink using an electric appliance. ... when you wet your hair the clippers may have tripped the breaker due to moisture seeping in the motor area...WHAL does not recommend wetting your hair using their clippers....thanks for the video.
I had a friend who is not a barber, and I ask him to cut my hair, last sunday. Next time, it should be better. May be I should try myself and see I successful I could be! Excellent video!
Excellent. Brave man. And, yes you probably should have stopped at 3 or 2. So, now that you've done quite a few cuts, do you have an update? And did you like the Wahl Color coded system?
I thought you did a great job ... with much more confidence than I'd have. I just got clippers and you'd think I was handling TNT lol I've watched a ton of haircutting videos but I really like the way you did this. I outgrew my fear of making a mistake with scissors... clipper fear is a whole new ballgame lol but I plan to conquer it. Loved it :o)
My two 20 year old daughters cut hair today with are dog grooming klippers & couldn't believe the outcome, neither have any hairdressing skills but if very tempted to by a cordless klipper set. 8/10 by the way on your effort👍
You did great! I had to do my 73 yr old brother's hair, I was so nervous and guess what it came out looking quite dapper. I am looking for some Wahl clippers, what would you recommend, I used some old Conaire and it was ok. Thanks Dear and stay safe
Good job...it looks pretty damn good -- sort of like going to HairCuttery. I bought my own clippers todays and will try to learn from your video. Thanks.
Cool. Looks good enough to me. I'd give you a 5. Gonna give it a shot myself I think. Locked down anyway coz of health issues so got nothing to lose... I suppose 😰! Thanks for the demo 👍
This fading is the most hardest part and most prone to messing up. I cut all the sides and back with 4. This way we can simply fade near top of the head
Yes you should have stopped at No 2. Beginners are best to stick with classic No 2 taper. This is my second self haircut. Yesterday i went slightly too high but it looks reasonable. I had much worse disasters from barbers. Practice, take your time and follow careful planned out steps.
Thanks Mike. I have been watching haircut videos. Your haircut is easy enough to do. I shouldn't have shaved my head. Oh well it grows fast. Keep up the videos. I know another dr mike.
BTW good job. Well done for first time. 8 for the extra spotty ness when you tried to go close. It'll grow out and look fine in a week. Live and learn. Question: Are the scissors barber shop sharp? Or just regular scissors?
Haircut looked great! Just curious, when the power went out was it that one specific outlet? I ask since the overhead light appeared to stay on and I'm weird that way 😉
thedoneeye haha thanks! Man it was all the outlets in the bathroom, but the lights still worked. I have no idea how everything is wired lol thankfully they are all working since I reset the outlet
Snap..we have the same clippers, they are very good and the colour coated guards really help. I would recommend buying a thinning scissors to complete your set up. I'm 2 self haircuts into it and have learned from my mistakes and looking forward to number 3 in a week or 2. Barber shop fades are beyond me. I'm going to study the top scissors cut on RUclips somemore as that and the transition to the sides and back based on your head shape and type of hair is where the difficulty lies. Respect to all professional barbers out there🙏🤧😷😎
@@DoctorMikeDiatte Well, it takes a couple of days to adjust to the new look, but after that I've come to like it a lot. It's very convenient and I actually love the way it looks now. I think it will be my new normal haircut.
First of all...thank you so much for being on the front lines right now. Second, you didn't do as badly as my first time. If you would have played with the corners of your clippers and been a little more patient with the fade, you would have gotten it.
Hey I appreciate it! It’s an honor to be taking care of patients. Haha that’s what some people have been saying! Playing with the corners is a good suggestion! I’ll try that out
On your first try, stick to the larger guards. Take baby steps. After you wash it and come back tomorrow you can make adjustments. I'd give you a good 8.
It is not bad. I would have stopped at 2 also. You can always wear a hat! I just ordered my wahl clippers from amazon and looking forward to my first time cutting my own hair. Probably try cutting my kids hair first hahaha!
I just finished doing mine with a 6 my son left with his Wahl. I can't stop laugh/crying. Hilarious. I am 70 and am recovering from diabetic alopecia and a lot of pink is showing but I feel so free. I really hate product on mine because it flattens it. A hat is going to be needed (to match my mask?) for a few days.
A 4 you look great with a bit longer hair on the bottom. Because you have just light skin that will show on dark hair bald spot. Square the bottom line fit u better.
This is literally what I did soon as I went from 2 to 1 it went wrong stick to 2 that's what I'm gonna do I'm cutting mine again in this lockdown next week
I have watched a few dozen tutorials on how to cut my own hair today. This is the best one I have found. Thanks.
odbt awesome thank you! Let me know how your cut turns out 👌🏽

Erick C5 I’ll have to try that strategy!
I've cut my hair for 20+ years just using scissors, brush & mirrors, so i rate it 9. I loved the funny video! Great job.
pms013 wow you are the pro! We need a video from you 😲

7 for de coup, 8 for DIY, 9 because it's the first time! And a 10 for your appearance and kindness.....
Thank you very much!

Watching this before I do my first haircut too. Has watched many videos. This is quite good - short, simple and to the point.
I've been cutting my own hair now since the COVID started, some cuts are better than others, though my hair trimmers are not the best, and I've ordered some better one. Just waiting now for my hair to need another cut so I can try them out. I hope I won't need to pay for a haircut again.

How did it go
@@DoctorMikeDiatte Let's just say it's presentable - lol. Better than before, but pretty good for a first try. Willing to give it another go!
@@aaronispring you got courage I believe in you
This is the first video I see someone cut his hair for first time (for real)

For a beginner, I would rate this a solid 9. Its actually a better look than what it was.
I had a friend who is not a barber, and I ask him to cut my hair, last sunday. Next time, it should be better.
May be I should try myself and see I successful I could be!
Excellent video!
Yes try it yourself! Just take your time
Excellent. Brave man. And, yes you probably should have stopped at 3 or 2. So, now that you've done quite a few cuts, do you have an update? And did you like the Wahl Color coded system?
Haha I will try making an update with my next cut! Yeah, love the color coded system it’s great! Do you cut your own hair?
I give you props for posting your first self-cut. It could have gone much worse. I think you did alright. For a first time self-cut, a solid 8.
Thank you sir!

Any suggestions for cutting the top with the clippers? Use a 6 maybe?
Pacific Blue I just tried it on my most recent video! I ended up going all the way down to a 2 with it. Guess it depends how short you want it!

I’m no expert but I like the Wahl brand!
get a cordless one

i think it came out great, im just starting, thank you, for the hope
What brand is the hair clipper you are using? You did great job!
Wahl. It’s super old I need a new one lol. But thank you!
I think you've changed my mind about cutting my own hair!
The barber at basic training gave me a haircut much like yours great job 10 up
yeah i made the same mistake going to 1 clipper guard. Should not going lower that 2 because 1 guard makes bald spots
Lesson learned! 😬
Cool. Looks good enough to me. I'd give you a 5.
Gonna give it a shot myself I think. Locked down anyway coz of health issues so got nothing to lose... I suppose 😰! Thanks for the demo 👍

David Macdonald thank you! Just did cut number 2 and it went a little better!
Not a bad cut at all. Number 2 is the ideal number on the sides for guys if you want it short but not too short.
I give it a 8 and you have a great sense of humor!
Thank you sir

Rock the melon Andrew. 😁
I have the same clippers , they are brilliant. You did a fantastic job 👍
Linda Watson yeah they work well especially for the price. Thank you!

Wow you convinced me , off to get a cutter !
Here is my rating of your haircut/the first rating of having the guts to try it on your own is 10+
Haha thanks! At least I had a backup plan to shave it all off
good job. just use # 08 or # 10 clip for the top.
Solid 8+ great job good luck getting sponsors on your next video
Ninja pull the top hair up with your fingers and use clippers with no guard to cut top it’s so easy 💜💜💜💜💜. You did good

Second go around was a little better. Practice is helping for sure! Do you do a fade?
I like it great job
Hey, you have given me enough courage to try it out myself - well, for the first time!!
I give you a solid 8 - nice job for the first time
Pretty good for the first time .. I give it a 8

Bryan Vagenos yes already getting better! Thank you
Good job! And a big thank you for doing the essential work you do. Stay safe.
Paddy C thank you very much!
why didnt you just use a longer guard to cut the top, rather than using scissors?
Excellent question, I was a lot smarter on round 2 and the longer guard made it so much easier 😂
Good job man for coronavirus I will give you 10 waiting for the next episode!
Nice outcome, Doc. I give it an 8 (👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍). I hope you gave yourself a decent cash tip!
Forgot the cash tip but I suppose it’s not too late 😂

Thanks for the work you do.
Antonio Valencia haha whew that’s quite a challenge, we will see what I can do 😂
Nice dude! The before looks better LOL! Thanks for the vid .
Reb C hahaha best comment ever
Great work. I'll give it an 8, but yes, definitely should have stayed at the No 2 for the sides. 😀
Haha thank you!
nice even though its your first time the same i cut mine good job
Victim tip: when using the mirror know that this is an opposite dimension, i almost cut my ear instead of my hair.
