One of the most beautiful songs ever written. If The absolute beauty and majestic sight of a full moon and star filled sky could make noise, this is what it would sound like.
One of their best songs, in my opinion. I have a funny story about this song. A friend and I drove to Vancouver for a holiday, and we were listening to this CD, and as we arrived in Vancouver, this song began to play: I mentioned how much I love this song. Later in the week we were looking for something to do, and my friend was leafing through the artsy newspaper and saw Page and Plant were playing that night, so amazingly we got tickets and went. They also played this song in the concert. It was all quite lucky, and I guess providence.
A great LZ track, so thank you for listening to and reacting to it, Justin! Part of the proof that Led Zeppelin was one of the rare groups who could do it all musically! One thing to put on your bucket list is a song comparison one of these months, between two versions of the same song by Led Zeppelin and the cover by Heart. The song is called "Battle of Evermore" and both versions are fabulous! No rush or anything, just one more project to keep in mind for a rainy day! Cheers,
This was written by Robert Plant for his wife. She made his career in music possible by supporting him financially in the early days when he was penniless. She worked as a nurse.
With JPJ featuring so much in this song it is nice to know his marriage had endured like few others in rock music. He and Maureen (same name as Plant.s first wife) were married before Led Zeppelin. It was JPJ's Maureen who urged him to answer Jimmy Page's ad for bassist.
I had to go back to this when I realized you skipped it as you're going through the album now - I didn't know you had already done it. What a masterful soul touching track, it's actually one of my all time favorite Zep songs. Such a sincere sentimental love song - nothing else quite like it in their catalog. All right, All of My Love is great too, but this is even better - it's so raw, so aching. A masterpiece. Elevates the whole album with it's contrast. You see them complexifying and beginning to weave in the visionary epic airs of later works.
This song is one that has probably ended up as the opening track to a million fifteen-year-old boys' cassette mixes to their girl crushes! Beautiful, almost vomitously romantic!
Very appropriate song I just walk into JP, you see we just came home from putting our 15 year old Yorkie Scooter down. So I just want to tell him Thank -you for his unconditional love 💕 Very sudden.
Absolutely 1 of my top 3 Led Zeppelin songs. I actually used the the first paragraph for part of my wedding vows, unfortunately we didn't make it till "the mountains crumbled to the sea" but still a very very beautiful love song.
I saw Led Zeppelin perform this song live in concert at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri on August 19th, 1970. They were amazing in concert.
Brilliant track off an amazing album. If you play Heartbreaker you have to play Livin' Lovin' Maid too, they go together. I would like to see you when you listen to What Is And What Should Never Be, it's the best way to test your audio channels.
I guess a few more may be saying this.... but this was the first dance at our wedding... i'm still with her and she's still managing to cope with me. Keep on rocking.
I just realized how late I was to LZ, I remember playing the first two albums on 8track in my car, hearing these while heavily petting with the mother of my child. This must have been in ‘76. Cuz, our baby came in ‘77. Of course, they, LZ were all over the radio and friends had their albums. Reading a lot of other comments on the personal connection to this song clicked my personal connection with this song and albums (1&2). Thank You JP and Nat! Peace and tmi baby making Music
I think there was a small mandolin part in there, in which case, that was John Paul Jones as well. He was so overlooked by people, but not the members of the Band. They knew just how much he contributed to their sucess.
Many years ago when I was a teenager my sister had a particularly bad breakup with a boyfriend. She would lay on her bed crying about it all in her room. In between her tears she would shout instructions across to me in my room to keep playing Thank You on my record player. With each play her crying got even worse but she did thankfully eventually get over the breakup. Thinking back I'm not really sure if the song helped with or maybe even prolonged her agony. A fabulous song though nevertheless and the bit when it comes back again at the end is genius.
This is a beautiful song. I never fully appreciated it until I found the love of my life. We will have been married 32 years 2 days from now on Nov. 25th(1989). "Thank You" Justin and Hi to your wife. Peace!
This was my first Zeppelin album and remains my favourite. It came hot on the heels of the first LP but in my mind it’s a departure from the first and sounds much less 60’s and definitely a 70’s album. This is one of my top tracks after Ramble On. BTW happy thanksgiving Justin.
A cousin of mine, who turned 67, in September, told me the first album he bought was Led Zeppelin 2, in 1969, when he was 14. It's an awesome album. Thank You is a great song. It really showcases John Paul Jones' organ work very well. Cheers! ✌️
I bought the second album first. I don’t think this was uncommon in the UK. Whole Lot of Love was played on our few radio stations being a fairly accessible track. Once I heard Led Zep 2 it was off to the record store next time I got paid to get the first album.
Quiet is an almost forgotten art. Nice song. So long since I heard it but it came back so quickly. Great choice. There are a lot of good songs on the first two albums.
Saw Page&Plant back in 94 or 95 for The Unledded Tour. Saw 2 shows and the following tour Walking Through Clarksdale. Although it wasn't Led Zeppelin it was pretty damn close! Phenomenal shows!!!☮
@@lesblatnyak5947 After The Talk shows in 1994 it was all about Page and Plant. If I remember correctly YES didn't tour again until Open Your Eyes. The Know Tour was canceled. Music, music, and more music! Love it!
So many Zep songs. This has always been in my top 5, possibly top 3. Thumbs up. I’ve been subscribed for ever. I can’t subscribe again unfortunately. Thanks for this Justin!!
Thanks Justin for that beautiful song ; My first ever Long Playing I bought in my life ( summer 1969 ) and by the way ; thank you to let , always , run the all songs ......................you are the only channel to do so
I love Plant's delicate vocals and the sweet lyrics. And that false ending was such a surprise the first time I heard it. I was gifted this album by my dad's 2nd wife, who had won it in an office "white elephant" exchange the prior Christmas; but her tastes trended more towards "The Lettermen" than the "Led" men, so I was fortunate to have it 'regifted' to me. I was 12 or 13, and when I placed the LP on the turntable and heard this song, and "Ramble On" and well, the whole album - - - I was hooked. Went out and bought LZ I (& III, which had just come out), and proceeded to have my musical horizon open up. Still have the first 5 in vinyl.
This was the first Zeppelin album I heard and bought in the summer of 74. Something you don't forget. Still have it. Listened to Zeppelin 4 that summer too. My second Zeppelin album. Robert Plant wrote these lyrics for his wife Maureen. Such a beautiful romantic ballad.
The first album of theirs i heard, and it stared my lifelong love affair with them. The softest track on the LP, and a very mellow closer to S1. A beautiful tune, beautifully played, and sung. Quite sentimental, but that's ok. I'm hoping you'll complete this album, it's super classic Zep, and a must hear, imho.
In my view Zeppelins Best album, I remember it so well when it came out. It changed Hard Rock forever Justin, every tune on the album is good !! They play in so many moods & styles it's Fantastic !!! : D
Produced by Jimmy Page and impeccably engineered by Eddie Kramer, ( of Jimi Hendrix fame ) Hauntingly beautiful, similar to "what is and what should never be" and "your time is gonna come," from Led Zeppelin 1.🤠👍
One of my favorites. Speaking of Robert's conversational tone on this track, might I suggest checking out his work with Allison Krause? Raising Sand from 2007 and the recently released Raise The Roof?

Oh, I love this song! First time I heard it was from Duran Duran's cover, which I think they did a nice job on, but the original of course is even more special! Beautiful lyrics!!!!
This is one of my VERY favorite tracks of theirs ever...This album is one of my top 20 albums ever. Thank you again for what you do, it brings joy to many of us. The false ending can simulate an ocean wave returning to shore as those mountains crash to the sea.
When I bought this album, I was into heavy music and didn’t care for this track. I never skipped it, though, because I never pulled the needle from any of my vinyls because I didn’t want to take any chances on scratching the record even though my turntable had one of those levers that could lift the stylus. After so many listens, this song grew on me and I was OK with it. I even learned how to play it on guitar.
Thanksgiving... 'Thank You'; I see what you're doing there! By the way, that 'Heartbreaker' follows is no coincidence. Both the first two albums are exquisitely designed to showcase the range of tone and theme from one track to the next.

You must have worn them out. I saw them 10 days later and they mailed it in. Granted there were circumstances.
Hey Justin! Do you know what time it is? That's right, it's lunchtime and time to get The Led out!!! Turn it up!🔈🔉🔊
In the fade ending, the single guitar note that repeats, gives me the feeling of time passing. Kinda like the chiming of a clock.
