    Of these that I have played, Quackshot remains my favorite by far. Aside from the visual and sound, it has a lot of charm to it expressive characters. The sassy moon on the zip line level, the senorita outside the pyramid, even that bit in the intro of Donald running right into the trap door and falling out of sight as the title screen slides in. Still brings a smile to my face.

    Proud to say I own many of the winners on this list. Being licensed games many times these games just don't get re-released. It is because of the gems on this list that lead me to be a retro gamer today. I am still amazed by the quality of Mickey Mania for the Sega CD. For those who don't own a Genesis or Mega Drive, the good news is that Disney released great Aladdin, The Lion King & The Jungle Book on Steam and it is quite an amazing compilation of these games from multiple platforms including Genesis, SNES, Master System, and Game Boy when available. Best of all you don't need some fancy high-end PC to play them although I would recommend some sort of PC gamepad or game controller. Again, very well done SLX. Thank you and keep up the great work!

    One thing that I learned about the Genesis/ MD Fantasia is that Walt Disney actually forbid anyone who was in charge of Disney to remake Fantasia. Walter Eisner found out about that and ordered all copies to be pulled off shelves. I think Tom Kalinske may have said that.

      I don't know the details. But Tom kalinske has said in previous interviews that Roy Disney found out that Walt never wanted Fantasia recreated, or remade, so they had to pull Fantasia for the Genesis off store shelves. You can find the audio interview on youtube, somewhere.

    Disney was probably the most influential franchise in video games during the 8 and 16 but era. They really new how to maximize the animation and made sure their games passed their own quality. Those games got the Disney and Nintendo seal of quality.

    • @AFourEyedGeek
      @AFourEyedGeek 2 года назад +3

      The most influential I wouldn't agree with as that means they influenced the video game industry more than any other company. They wouldn't have influenced others more than Nintendo with their consoles and their frranchises like Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong, and so many more. Seems like everyone wanted a mascot like Sonic from Sega after its success, and so many games companies imitated Street Fightrr 2 from Capcom.
      Disney made some great games, but with Sega, Virgin and others developing games for them, Disney's influence would be minimal compared to the other big video game companies. Well that is what I think anyway.

    I was just playing through castle of illusion remake today on my PC.. I wanted to take a moment to heartily recommend it for anyone who loved the original game. It worked immediately on a modern windows 11 setup with 3070.. and it even supports, natively, 16:10 resolutions for those with laptops or monitors that have that aspect ratio. I am playing it at 1440P, 60 FPS. Looks and sounds beautiful and Sega Australia should be commended for their effort. I am using the Steam version. No issues at all! My monitor is 165HZ and caused no conflicts. You can remove the 65 FPS cap that the game runs at by default with a config file edit, but I don't recommend it as it breaks a couple things later in the game, and let's be honest, 60 FPS is perfectly fine and mirrors the original game's 60 FPS (I have set it to a 60 FPS cap in the nvidia control panel rather than the weird default 65 FPS). Have fun!

    I always found it amusing how Pinocchio was advertised as "Only For Nintendo!" on the front of the Super NES box. Uh, you sure about that?
    In addition to its difficulty, Gargoyles commits the sin of retconning the other gargoyles, making it seem as though Goliath was going solo. Did they see the show? Was it still in development?

    Disney games on Genesis are a mixed bag; sometimes you’ll get unforgettable classics like Castle of Illusion, Quackshot, Aladdin, and The Lion King, and other times, you’ll get garbage like Fantasia.

    One of the first games I had on mine when I got my Genesis in 1993 was World of Illusion. Still one of my favorite games to date, also ending up getting Aladdin, The Lion King, The Great Circus Mystery, Mickey Mania, and Castle of Illusion. All wonderful games always wanted Quackshot but a friend had it.

    Another great video 👍🏼 … I feel I missed the 16 bit era, languishing in 8 bit (Amstrad CPC464) hell for too long, then discovering booze, cigarettes and girls (which distracted me a little!) … my little brother had a SNES but I hated RPGs, Donkey Kong and Mario games so I had a low opinion of consoles. But now I wish I bought myself a Mega Drive at the time though, but it wasn’t even on my radar, even though I loved playing arcade games at the seaside such as Outrun, Super Hang-On, Defender/2, Afterburner 2, Space Harrier (etc.). So I’m still claiming some nostalgia for Sega (and Mega Drive games) even though I can’t rightfully do that 😊

      The SNES game was expanded (read: padded out) with extra collectibles and longer levels. In my opinion the changes hurt the game’s pacing and tight level designs from the original. The Mega Drive/Genesis version is the one to play.

    I'm glad to know that the Sega games of Aladdin and Lion King have since seen a re-release in a collection for today's consoles (even if it may have been done partly to help promote those new live-action remakes), but as an older Disney fan I think it's kind of a shame to know that there are still so many other well-made titles to come from them over the years that are never as lucky, especially a lot of the stuff that Disney Interactive put out for PC in the 90s.

    Same sentiment here: before their Sega games I didn't really care for Disney. But playing "Lucky Dime Caper" and "Land of Illusion" on the Master System made me a huge fan. Speaking of, please also make a video of their SMS and GG games, which IMO easily trump the MD games.

      Disney published two holiday 95' games in NA/Europe. In NA we got Toy Story and Gargoyles. In Europe they got Toy Story and DD Maui Mallard. Either way in one of the regions you missed out on a quality title. I know as a kid Gargoyles were super popular so it made sense to get that one out (maybe they weren't as big in Europe)
      DD Maui Mallard indeed almost got released for the holiday season of 96' in NA but no one decided to pick it up or the publisher backed out. Also it's understandable why Disney didn't want to publish all three in both regions as you end up competing with yourself in a sense and there is only so much budget/resources.
