  • Still working on our van in preparation for Redwood SF 2024. Ive a few more bits to sort out before then but definitely making progress.
I really wanted to change out the springs for the newer model Vanagon carat springs. they just ride much smoother and make the van handle much more like a car. The springs lowered my 84 van by 1.5 inches so it looks a lot nicer also, well, in my eyes anyways. Next step will be fitting a nice set of wheels! can't wait for that, to be honest, it's going to transform the look of little old Georgie.
My video is intended to show you the steps needed to tackle this job yourself. there's probably other ways of handling it, this is just how I did it.
I mentioned in the video that if you're not confident in doing suspension work, you should have a professional, or someone with experience tackle the job for you. The force in auto springs can be no joke, Plenty of people have been hurt by them. I suggest spring compressors for the front, especially for the taller, earlier springs like mine had, and you'll absolutely need them if your van has lift springs in it. Be safe yo. Working on cars can be dangerous.
