Hey bud, please please read this. You will continue to go through transmissions until you upgrade your transmission cooler. Get the Mishimoto trans cooler it’s made just for your truck and motor. Ignore everybody freaking out about tightening the filter with a wrench it will come off just fine as long as it had a little oil on it. Diesels always hold alot of oil. Usually anywhere between 3 to 5 gallons. Because it helps to dissapate heat which makes the engine last longer. Keep in mind your water jackets are up around the cylinders not down around the crankcase. So aside from the oil there's no cooling effect at the bottom of the engine. Alot of people forget that oil also helps cool an engine down.
As a mechanic by trade, i can tell you that you are wrong, most fillers have instructions that require a full turn to a turn and a half, bottom line is, follow the instructions on the filter
So go to the local parts store and asked for filter strap wrench 3/8 drive should be fine for this size filter maybe go for like 1/2 drive on your big motor in the boat. These are amazing for sticky filters. Im sure you probably got oil on the seal of the filter but just double check and wipe your finger with oil around it it prevents the filter from being this dry to remove. Also tightening a filter for trucks like this just simply hand tight and nothen crazy just snug is fine. if you are worried it may leak just watch it while the trucks running and if nothing comes out you golden.
The trick to removing oil filters is for the vehicle to be hot, I worked in a busy oil shop for years and you learn quickly hot filters are hand tight, Good luck if it’s cold you might end up ripping the filter apart
I used to go through this with my 6.5 diesel. Now i just buy the fram filters with the grip tape or whatever it is on the end of the filter. Easier to spin off.

I’ve never changed the oil or filter in my 7.3 van in the six years and 11,000 miles I’ve had it. Have run a lot of fresh oil through it however, the one good thing about having a slow leak.
Seeing you already took the one way road by pokig that pointy hammer into the filter, I'd have started by poking the plastic handle turny hammer through the filter housing and lever it off that way
The power stroke emblem on the fender means it’s a early 99 witch supposably have better connecting rods. I’ve done a zf-6 manual swap on my 7.3 after the automatic shit out in the middle of a highway with a load of cattle in a trailer. The manual swap is pretty easy on these trucks.
You may never see this comment, but a major transmission issue in the 98-05 250s is a bad ground strap, oems used those terrible braided aluminum ground "wires" and on these when one goes, the static arcs the trans pump and burns up the trans.

Hopefully he keeps a good battery in the Silverado or if it's a Isuzu Silverado 2 good batteries. Old batteries and or glowplugs are stuff that wear out in any vehicle equipped . The gooseneck hitch you simply have a ball that's over the back axle of the truck that's in your bed, a fifth wheel hitch will be a fifth wheel plate like you see on a tractor trailer, That's the difference between them.
Luke, have you found someone to detail the truck yet? Definitely time for new headlights (inexpensive and easy to do!). BUT, now with winter here, get under there with a couple of spray cans of Fluid Film and give it a coat!
Hey had one same thing in Michigan 2WD get limited slip diff. May already have it. Snow tires and I had set of chains if it got really deep, no problem.
easy job just a little messy. Get a Fumoto drain valve and one of those black plastic waste oil jugs with the screw on cap from the auto parts store. Pre-fill a couple quarts into the filter and smear some on the rubber gasket and just twist it on by hand. about as tight as you can get it with a clean pair of hands is plenty tight.
Luke you have so many motorized units can I make suggestion……write down with a sharpie or marker the wrench size for the drain plugs either on air filter, filler cap or on the oil filter. Most Fords are 7/8” for bigger motors. A quick look will keep you from needing to climb under the truck boat engine or whatever your working on multiple times.…😂 Also suggest getting a magnetic oil pan bolt. That gives you a heads up on any issues with the engine and will catch any micro metal parts floating around the engine. Those Ford diesels will go 300,000 plus IF YOU DON’T SCREW WITH THE TUNING. Get a really good pair of shocks for the front end (maybe spring over adjustable) it will help with tire wear. Ford messed up with that part of truck….heavy heavy front end ( from engine) and did not use good parts up front. Shocks, bushings, tie rods control arms and even steering parts from Ford are inferior to many aftermarket parts. Have had several straight axles Fords and never could get decent miles on tires unless rotate as you said in the video. “You aint a crabber unless you had a few oil baths changing motor filters and oil”…..😂😂😜
thats a early 1999 7.3 when it has the badges in the front. there is different things on the e99 compared to later years, the turbo is different, HPOP, injectors, and it has a catalytic converter. I would get a Hydra PHP tuner
I loved everything about this video. YOu can never have too many "hammers"! Thank you for showing people how actual oil changes typically go. I'm looking forward to watching the oil change in the boat. Take care! And congratulations on the marriage!
I didn't catch if you did it but putting oil around the oring on the filter will help it come off next time. On my truck I do it hand tight, then 3/4 of a turn and it stays on fine and comes off next time. ;)
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve change the oil on my 7.3 I’ve only ever tightened the filter hand tight and it’s still hard to get off. Never had a problem yet.
Hey Luke.. As much fun as it is to see you struggling with getting that filter off... When you replace it, it should be hand tite... don't gorilla hand tite either.
Just use the super tech brotha it works great I think his name is Project Farm, he does a bunch of testing on em to sow which is beat. Busy with Any high mileage diesel super tech is jus fine. Ive ra over 200k with my 7.3 on super tech and still purrs.
2:21 I daily a 1994 f-150 4x4 with the twin traction beam front end and I have a set of tires that haven't been rotated ever since I put them on 2 year ago with 18k miles and they are wearing evenly. Even with open front and rear diffs all 4 of the tires are wearing even never been rotated. You might need an alignment and or have worn bushings or ball joints.
Idk if something changed in 99, but with the OBS the F250 have the twin I and the F350's are straight axle. So either something changed in 99 or someone put 350 badges on your truck.
Build some wood ramps out of 2x 12 stacked 5 of 6 high.. Cost less than 100 bucks . Will not collapse and will last two life times. Better than anything you can buy.
Quick tip for the 7.3 diesels (goes for the 6.0 too). They use a HEUI system for the injectors, long story short it uses a high pressure oil system to fire the injectors. This means that if you don't have oil pressure, the truck won't run. So there is no need to worry about your oil pressure on that truck. If it starts, it has oil pressure.
99.5 * is the only time they put the badge on the front of the fender like that .... I had one a 1999.5 reg cab f350 lariat 4wd ..... I would give anything for that truck back
Please replace your bushings you have the best front suspension they ride so smoothly with bushings that aren't 20 years worn and shocks 4 new shocks you dont gotta thank me 😉

thats a early 1999 7.3 when it has the badges in the front. there is different things on the e99 compared to later years, the turbo is different, HPOP, injectors, and it has a catalytic converter.
10:52 hand tight is plenty tight enough. Never use a tool to tighten down a oil filter or any canister type filter like those.
Dont ever tighten the oil filter. Great video luke keep up the great work.
Twin i beam suspension is good. You just have something off with the alignment. Thats why its eating tires.
7.3's have a tendency to leak at the filter for some reason but just pay someone to change your oil less headache and obviously mess
Hand tight and the filters good. Will make your life easier next time, love ur videos man
“I knew that wasn’t gonna go well, but I still did it” … I have that to myself all the time 😂
Really enjoy your videos man
I'm currently 3 days into fixing the turbo pedestal on my '00 7.3, and let me tell you it's the hardest thing I've ever done on a vehicle lol.
You can usually bet money that older trucks have either 19mm or ¾ drain plugs.
I legit thought you were gonna say, "If you don't spill a little bit on the motor [you ain't no crabber]" lol
I’ve done Thousands of my own oil changes from the age of 15 to 53, just put your filter on hand tight and as long as it doesn’t leak you are good.
7.3 are notorious for leaking filter if not tighten up more than hand tight. That only works on small vehicles like a Toyota camry
Luke is the best! Keep up the good work bro
That v8 badge was only on the power stroke diesel, hence the powerstroke written on it
Idk if something changed in 99, but with the OBS the F250 have the twin I and the F350's are straight axle. So either something changed in 99 or someone put 350 badges on your truck.
Big channel lock pliers work good to take off oil filter.
death wobble in pretty much for solid axle 4wd. Never heard of it in a 2wd.
If you blowing transmissions that fast then you need to be checking for clogged lines or clogged cooler
At 13:16 thought with all the shim shaming he does, he done went and put some rear fender flares on that diesel. 😂
Build some wood ramps out of 2x 12 stacked 5 of 6 high.. Cost less than 100 bucks . Will not collapse and will last two life times. Better than anything you can buy.
Manual conversion on that truck is super easy to do and inexpensive too
I know nothing about trucks, but this was hella entertaining. 😂
Straight as Elton John hit the spot hahaha didn't see that coming
I would get a wheel alignment, it'll save your front tires and save you hundreds in uneven wear and tear
tats what I said I have 20k on my tires and they are wearing even and i have 4x4 too.
My 7.3 had 500k before I did a motor job, same block just need seals and milled 2 over
"Texas sized bummer." - I'm just gonna call Texas this from now on out.
LOL. You have a plethora of hammers....kinda jealous!
I'm 6 foot and still have to climb up onto the bumper supports to reach the back of the engine on my F150.
Buy yourself a strap wrench, it will make getting your oil filter off much easier.
As a GM guy if I had to choose between the 7.3 and the 6.0 Powerstroke, I’d choose the 7.3, but I’d rather have the 5.9 Cummins.
99.5 * is the only time they put the badge on the front of the fender like that .... I had one a 1999.5 reg cab f350 lariat 4wd ..... I would give anything for that truck back
For transmissions don't like International power and 7.3 engines are 100% IH
Please replace your bushings you have the best front suspension they ride so smoothly with bushings that aren't 20 years worn and shocks 4 new shocks you dont gotta thank me 😉
