As the Syrian conflict enters its third year, the moderate opposition is crumbling. Worn down by fighting both the regime and radical Islamic groups, many have given up and are now fleeing for Turkey.
"In the worst, worst, worst possible outcome, the Syria of the future will be a lot better than when it was at the time of Assad and his regime", said Abu Baseer, founder and commander of the FSA-aligned Al-Izz Adbulsalam Brigade, during an interview in a base in the Turkmen mountains in April 2013. A few months later he was shot dead at the hands of ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The Free Syrian Army (FSA), a more moderate and secular part of the opposition, has been undermined by more radical groups like ISIS. "If you want to do anything, ISIL are standing in the middle", one fighter tells us. Until a few months ago they were ready to sacrifice their lives, now they have given up hope on a future in Syria and instead seek refuge in Turkey, where they are working. "Syria is now finished, I'm not even thinking of living in Syria now".

it was a bad mistake not to help these moderate fighters from the start,if we had given them weapons they would have gotten rid of assad and the islamists wouldnt have had a chance.now iraq is invaded by isis the same people these fighters where fighting against.

These are brave men, but I think they lack proper military training. The odds are definitely against them. But I guess their faith makes up for it. May there be peace in Syria soon, I personally don't bother who wins or loses, just stop the bloodshed.

When these Sunni Islamists say "oppression", they mean gender equality, secularism (when different religions/minorities live in equality), democracy, etc. They consider the fact that Syrian women can get an education, have a career, and choose how to dress as oppression. They consider not having privilege, as Sunni males, as oppression. They want to run Syria just like Taliban ran Afghanistan. That is what they are after; so naturally, the opposite of taliban-like-system is "oppression" to them..
In Syria, all religions and minorities lived in equality and peace. There was gender equality, unlike in most ME countries. Women were free to study, get a career, choose how to dress, and what religion to practice. These "rebels" want to destroy all of that, destroy democracy and secularism, and impose sharia-law, where everyone, except Sunni-Muslims-males, is a second-class citizen.

I feel so sorry for these people.I wonder if any r still alive.now that this conflict is nearing some sort of end, the Assad government did not win this war on its own.without the Russian intervention and help from Hezbollah, I wonder if things might have been different.as a military analyst and a retired soldier I have my own opinions of how things played out.Assad was always going to be a hard man to topple.in Iraq, Saddam's Army took off there uniforms and went home during the US invasion in 2003.The Syrian Arab Army is a complete different story.they have not suffered large scale desertions and it seemed around 2015 the SAA was worn out, suffering large casualties, and on the brink of collapse.when Russia stepped in they saved Assad's regime and turned the tide of the war..no one can deny this.then ISIS showed up and turned a civil war into a sectarian war.thank god that they were destroyed as a fighting force,but there sick ideology still lives on.I am currently writing a book about the Syrian war.it's a story that if it wasn't real then no one would of believed the things that have taken place.President Assad has the dubious honor of being the only serving President to use Chemical Weapons on his own people in his own capital city.What next for Syria.well as support runs dry for the Rebels eventually Assad will claim a very holo victory.for his conduct is shameful and down right disgusting.Sadam didn't even have links to terrorists,there was no terrorists in Iraq,Sadam did not tolerate terrorists.yet America invaded and destroyed Iraq in the process of regime change.well we all have seen Assad use Chemical weapons, we have seen him harbor terrorists like Hezbollah.why doesn't the US change the Assad regime.it's because there is nothing in it for America.it's not about oil.it's about keeping a war going so the US can sell weapons, vehicles,anti tank missiles to Syria's neighbors under the guise of keeping these countries secure.like Iraq,u see all the Humvee's the Army drive.the old M16's and M249's and other out dated and used weapons.it's much cheaper and profitable for the US to sell the weapons and equipment used in the invasion of Iraq than to ship them home.it's completely obsurd.you watch some footage out of Iraq and u will see all the old American gear.it's all about money for the US.

We should have supported the secular opposition from the start, one of the few things I ever agreed with McCain on.
At this point Assad looks like the lesser evil, and the secular rebels should make new lives for themselves and their family in the west, the game is over and the bearded madmen won. I feel sorry for any soul unlucky enough to be born in such a place/time.

Our message to the lost would be delivered with more urgency if we understood what the holiness and righteousness of God will do to those who have rejected the full provision of forgiveness in His Son, Jesus Christ. One cannot read the Bible seriously without seeing it over and over again-the line is drawn. The Bible is very clear that there is one and only one way to heaven-through Jesus Christ. He has given us this warning: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
There is only one way to heaven and those who follow that way are guaranteed to get there. But not everyone is following that way. Are you?
