Hi Sid, the patio of your first customer in Gloucester reminded me of what mine was like a few years ago. I also live in Gloucester and have a north facing garden with an Indian sandstone patio. I tried every cleaner in the book, none touched it and they’re not cheap are they! Anyway, desperation drove me to use my noggin and I decided to buy and try Crystal caustic soda, (IT’S NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED) and all PPE was worn. I mixed it up in a bowl and painted it on each slab individually. Left it for an hour or so and pressure washed it off. My slabs looked like new and after 3 years the lichen hasn’t come back.
    Wishing you all the best.

Even if it’s cleaned regularly it is a total pain, so good luck getting it spotless 🤞. Aren’t John and Jackie just the best. What a wonderful couple - but you deserve it Sid.

You did recover the overall color, though I can joke and perhaps you can consider it is a "natural aggregate" color now. I'm actually glad you showed us this. Anyone can run into an unusually difficult problem and you, as a person who is good at this, working your way through the difficulty is good to watch. I'd say it is a lot better, a lot safer. We'll be glad to see the overall progression. (You are not defeated.) Like your roofing biocide idea. What great friends John and Jackie are. Thank you for doing some asphalt. I realized you had done one of the few jobs I've see, at the wedding venue.

It sucks but sometimes these things have been sat there so long no matter what is done it just doesn't lift off. However you've removed loads of the stuff off them which could have caused them to slip and fall and cause injury to themselves and that is the main thing.

That black stuff is a major pain, and it was really bad. Try not to be too hard on yourself, it was massively improved from what it was, and I am confident with some continued treatment you will figure it out. Sometimes when stuff is that bad you just need time for the structure of it to break down more. And that might be part of the learning process too, learning when to give it time instead of trying to muscle through it.

He'll need a resovior with distilled water or a RO filtration system, or at the very least a serious multistage water filter on top of what he's got, but it could be a good add on for sure. I've done a few and learned the hard way that you need to take proper care to ensure there is zero chance of mineral etching on them, but all in all its a simple job that pays quite well (in my area at least).
      Good thought.

Passed a comment since that was related to a contractor. His wife said he would use the bleach but keep everything wet and repeat doses several times in about an hours time usually did a lot.
