- Time is a flat circle for the Georgia Bulldogs as they once again find themselves facing the Alabama Crimson Tide for a huge game. This time, it's the College Football Playoff. Hoping not to make it 8 straight losses to the Tide, the Bulldogs reach out to a few of the teams who have actually managed to beat Alabama to see if they have any advice to offer.

As an LSU fan I thought it was common SEC knowledge that being favored over Bama is basically the kiss of death.
LaDineaux, you’re exactly right. Bama fans love it when the talking heads say they’re struggling-that way, the opposition relaxes and Bame simply sweeps up the pieces. It is never good for the opposing team when Bama is backed into a corner. They feast on adversity.

It’s because when it rarely happens, Saban doesn’t have to force that chip on their shoulder. He and his staff can simply coach. Like he said after the SEC title game, the media did all the work for him by going on and on about how great UGA’s defense was. It’s why Mack loved that ESPN spent a month telling everyone how great USC was leading up to the Rose Bowl. When you don’t have to spend time telling your dominant team how flawed they are because everyone else is doing it on tv, you can focus on the game plan and let the natural instinct to “prove them wrong” take over when all else is equal. Bama rarely has that opportunity since Saban’s first title in Tuscaloosa, so you better believe those young men make it a point to prove the doubters wrong. Like his streak against former assistants, all good things must come to an end. Just a matter of time. It’s amazing he’s been able to keep them so steady for so long without a huge letdown caused by complacency.

I was at that ULM game. It was my first Bama game too.
After the game I asked my dad "Dad you said we would win" "shut up son, i don't wanna talk about it."
They've led by two scores in every game aside from '08 and' 15.
I'm a ULM fan/alum and I was there, too. I was just as stunned as you...happy but stunned.
Thank you ULM and I’m sure Coach Saban continues to use and silently thank you for that yummy rat poison factory you created for him with that “once in a lifetime” win. Who knows, maybe Saint Nick threw it on purpose just for the story/ammo. I’m actually leaning Georgia to win, but hopefully we’ll be thanking A&M for this year’s natty. LOL RTR!

No, the Academy Awards are a joke. SEC Shorts is better than that. Well, maybe they are jokes, too, but at least they are funny jokes, not sick jokes.
Towards the end there when Georgia started talking about their defense and how they are favored, I 100% expected Hope to appear and Georgia would realize what they had done. The Rat Poison bit was a solid ending, though.
The only this missing was Hope making an appearance.
I was waiting for Hope to show up, or for someone to mention her!

As a Clemson fan I can tell you that nothing good comes from being the favorite when playing Bama. I’ve always said that the one thing Bama and Clemson have in common . Is that you don’t want to play them when they’re pissed. Hopefully UGA will come in pissed. But there’s that hope chic again and you know how bad she cheats.

Right now they can do what they really want, so they believe in what they’re doing. Throwing a bunch of money and different interests into the mix would probably just turn it into a travesty of itself, too slick, too sold out, too many people to answer to. I remember when ULM beat Alabama at home. Nick came to the Independence Bowl that year. They had to ride through Monroe, Louisiana to get to it. ULM put up a billboard on I-20 that said ULM 21, Alabama 14.

As a dawg fan, best analogy I can give is what Kobe Bryant said, “y’all playing checkers and I’m playing chess”. Saban has recruited and transferred in the 4-6 generational talent players each year and plays with a game killing speed that can’t be covered. No surprise you have Heisman winners each year, 1st round skill players and lineman everywhere and National Championships every year to every other year.
Love how Bama fans say it’s “Bama vs The World”, that is false it’s “Bama then the rest of college football”. Bama is somewhere between a college football program and an NFL team. They’ve really no competition.

How does a team require 4 overtimes to beat a 6-7 Auburn and then blow out Georgia?
How did Alabama struggle to beat a 6-7 Florida team and a 6-6 LSU?
Whenever I watch Bama this year, it's like the team has an on-off switch. When they are confident, they coast. The OC and DC call dumb schemes trying to showcase players rather than win the game...and the team stagnates.
But then, at some point, Saban (or something) kicks them in the ass and then SUDDENLY they are the hugely talented team we all know they usually are. It's honestly bizarre.
Reminds me of Germany in the 2014 World Cup...so talented that they INTENTIONALLY played sub-par lineups to save their best players for the back end of the tournament.

In college there have been 4 repeat matchups between teams. In every one of those match-ups the team that lost in the first game, won in the rematch. It's harder to beat a team twice in one season, which is why UGA is a slight favorite by the oddsmakers. ...this game is a toss-up, that needs odds somewhere, and the rematch phenomena is the difference maker. That's what this 3 point spread means.
In Bowl games? 2004 Auburn beat Tenn twice, regular season and SEC Championship. 2010 Auburn beat SCar twice, regular season and SEC Championship. Several others have happened in resent other conference game history (OU over Baylor twice 2019, UCF over Memphis twice in 2018, Stanford over UCLA twice in 2012, etc)
OU beat Neb in the bowl rematch in the 80s
UF beat FSU in the Sugar Bowl rematch for the title
Wash beat Neb in a bowl game rematch in the 00s/early 10s
Bama beat LSU in the rematch in 2011/12 title game
Those are the 4 bowl game rematchs off the top of my head and yes the loser of the first one won the rematch in all 4 occasions.
After getting blown out in Salt Lake, Oregon handled Utah in Vegas.

And hopefully that trend will continue

Georgia is the first favorite to beat Bama since the 2008 SEC Championship Game
SEC shorts does a few football shorts throughout the off season. I always look forward to those. I think they first introduced HOPE back in June or early July last year.
They did 2 with Texas and OU about leaving the Big 12 the weeks that it broke

Sometimes Bama makes a personnel change that UGA isn't prepared for. UGA has balance being faithful to Stetson with doing the unexpected in a pinch.
As a UGA fan, I have no expectations. Just happy to be in this spot again. Getting here is tough, so it’s kinda nice to be back in the same spot we were four years ago in 2017.
