    I think its easy to first put foam rings in lower legs, than install dust seals.

  • @Hawlkeye-e9p
    @Hawlkeye-e9p 3 года назад +10

    You missed the most important step. Before re installing the air chamber top cap. Take butter and 30wt and mix it untill the butter thins out a bit. Then use this mixture and add .5ml to the top of the seal head. If you dont the butter just clumps up and sits on top the seal head and lubes nothing. You can add 5 to 7 drops of 30wt but pre mixing and using just enough to cover the seal head gives the best long term sbc. Almost all the stiction on these forks come from that upper air chamber seal head. Once you do this. You will never go back to straight butter.

    • @Will99x
      @Will99x 3 года назад +4

      I think this is why Sram now instruct you to coat the inside of the air stanchion with dynamic seal grease and add a few ml of oil to the top of the air chamber

      That's not what the manual calls for, I'll stick with what the manufacturer recommends. Dynamic seal grease on the piston and inside the tube, with 3ml of 0w-30 on top of the piston.

    I have the Revelation RC 35mm 2018 fork with 29er set up 140mm travel. Can i get the air spring and the charger and somehow get 150mm travel? Is it going to mess up the geometry of the bike?

    • @sprousaTM
      @sprousaTM 4 года назад +1

      Geometry changes slighty.. 10mm is not a lot.. but the forks sits higher in its travel.. might change a bit more.. If you want to upgrade, use debonair spring 00.4020.552.001 for 150mm travel and if you also want the Charger Damper 2.1, that the 2021 pike ultimate uses, buy 00.4020.169.005 as well... After changing the parts you basically have a revelation fork that is identical to a 2021 pike ultimate fork with 150mm of travel

      @@sprousaTMhi bud! Hey question. I wana upgrade my Revelation to a pike ultimate also, found the airspring & 2.1 RC2 for a good price new. My question is, I know the damper is a cartridge style, but does it come prepared with oil in it? If so, how much oil do they hold? Is it easy to change out the oil? Im going to see if I can find any of that info in trailforks. I seen the oil & lube chart & all it says next to 2.1 RC2 is "bleed" for the capacity 🤷🏻‍♂️ And it says 155ml for my stock Motion Control.....

    • @sprousaTM
      @sprousaTM 2 месяца назад

      @@mikeburgh3956 the damper is pre filled. You juat have to remove the old motion control unit, clean the inner side of the stanchion, stick in the 2.1 damper unit and fasten it to the required torque specs. If you want to service the damper unit, that is a more complex process than the motion control unit. As you said, you bleed the unit with oil until no air bubbles are coming out. The detailed process is pretty well documented in Srams downloaded pdf files 👍if you buy it new, you don't have to do that of course. The service cycle for the damper is pretty high though. Something like 200+ riding hours.

    Hey I’m ready to swap my lowers to a new upper crown also upgrading to debon air, but I got a question I saw in the video that you drain some oil from the charger side do you need to add oil again into the charger chamber? If so what kind ?

    • @Drakes355
      @Drakes355 4 года назад +1

      I think the question was relative to draining oil from the uppers on the charger side. Yes there should be 10ml in the lowers but what about the uppers?

    • @tomnguyen7880
      @tomnguyen7880 3 года назад +5

      @@Drakes355 The fork in its original config had a motion control damper, which is an "open-bath" type damper and that was why oil was dumped out at the beginning. The upgrade is a new Charger 2.1 drop-in "cartridge" type damper so all the oil is already contained inside the damper (if you cycle the shaft, you can see the bladder expand/contract from the oil inside). No need to add any oil, just drop in and reassemble! Of course, add 10mL of oil in the lowers. Cheers!

    • @mikeburgh3956

    I upgraded my 2019 Revelation (OEM version of Pike) from Charger 1 to 2.1 RC2 damper last year and just recently the Debonair spring to the 2021 anti-suckdown version, same as you. Biggest improvement is the damper. Way less chatter transmitted to my hands and much more stable over everything.
    Nice video except it appears you''re using a steel rule to push the towel through the stanchions. You're taking a risk of scratching the bores, especially the air side where the piston slides. Something soft like plastic or wood is safer.

      @jeffh9071 4 года назад +1

      It was worth it to me, especially the damper even though it was the most expensive part. Way less then a new Pike Ultimate. If I did it again I’d consider the RCT3 version at 2/3 the cost. No high speed compression adjust but I run mine wide open so maybe it’s the same. You get the lock and pedal platform lever for climbing efficiency.

    • @jeffh9071

      I doubt you have the latest Charger version 2.1. The Revelation is intended to be a budget OEM Pike so I’d be surprised they installed the premium damper from the Pike Ultimate.
      I believe the 3 in RTC3 is for open, pedal platform (stiff open), and locked. Yours has all three lever positions? My 2019 only had open and pedal platform on a Charger 1 damper. Maybe yours is also an earlier damper but with RTC3?

    Hello
    I want to ask, maybe stupid question. I have this Charger in RS Lyrik (maybe it is Charger 2) and I had a problem with LSC setup - by problem I mean I was not able to rotate it separetely from HSC. I don't know why. If it was becasue of dirt or something (bike was used for Enduro races). But anyway. I took pliers and grab the LSC and while holding HSC, I turn it. There was small snap and LSC got loose. Now it rotate seperately from HSC and also do clicks. If it works properly is hard to tell. I unfortunately did not know, that it would have been enough just to remove that small hex and look under and clean it. Do you know if there is anything I could damage in the charger by this? Thank you.

    Im looking to do an overall service on my lyrik rc 170mm and also get the debonair upgrade, the damper upgrade is out of my budget though so is it worth to spend 40 euro on just the air spring or is there not much of a difference in performance with just the air spring upgrade?

    • @carlhartt
      @carlhartt  4 года назад +5

      the fork is stay higher! so you also have more travel....for 40 euros it is very good!

    • @danol91
      @danol91 3 года назад

      @@carlhartt but you will also have smaller negative chamber, therefore worse small bump sensitivity and worse performance in mid travel.. fork staying higher is just a myth.. yes, it will stay higher but only when you are not sitting on a bike.. in a real world scenario, you are aiming for the same sag, say 25%, either it is B2 or C1 spring.. if you lift the front wheel (e.g. in a jump), it will return to 0% sag even with B2 spring.. upon landing you have the same full travel available with both springs. Basically whole C1 spring is just a marketing BS for people who were complaining about "not having full travel" and not fully understanding how forks work..
      But i'm curious - do you feel any significant difference in riding quality between default damper (motion control) and the new charger 2.1? Thanks.

Basically from what I can tell, changing the airspring to the newest version AND swapping in the expensive charger 2.1 with high and low compression adjustment knob changes the revelation to a Pike Ultimate fork. The Pike and Revelation are both the same fork in different price categories. While Revelation uses a normal RC motion damper, the pike starts with rct3, rct, rc2... Stanchionwise they are identically. Theirfore if you have a 2018+ Revelation with 35mm stanchions and buy the rc2.1 damper 00.4020.169.005 and the newest debonair spring, e.g. 00.4020.552.000 for the 160mm travel one (00.4020.552.001 to .004 for 150mm to 120mm), you will get the exact same fork as a Pike Ultimate RC2.1 :) The only difference then might be the looks of it...
