    I wanted to mention the scene where German prisoners, including one American were shot. It wasn’t explained, but there were reasons for that happening. Unfortunately for the Germans, they were captured when there literally was no rear area to put them in and no troops to spare for guarding them. It’s terrible, but there was more to it than cruelty.

    You spoke of how young some of these men were . The youngest American to fight in WWII was Calvin Leon Graham, he finagled the system and enlisted in the US Navy at the age of twelve .

    Each company had their own missions. Remember the end of ep1 when they have these maps and sand tables, and Lt Meehan tells them Easy has to destroy a garrison.
    German AA wasnt particularly effective, it was just accuracy by volume. You send so much steel up in the air, you're bound to hit something eventually.

    Basic paratroop strategy: drop behind enemy lines capture whatever objective planned (usually, but not always, a bridge or town where roads meet) then your forces catch up to them and all is hunky'dory. Problem is, if your forces don't win elsewheer you have light infantry that is surrounded and they have only the supplies they carried with them. And you probably over estimate tanks.     The first ground flashes we see are not bombs, since this operation relied on as much surprise as possible, and was also not designed to drop men right on top of German concentrations. That is anti aircraft fire hastily coming into action after realizing which door of Fortress Europa was actually being stormed.

    Well, this is when the sh*t gets real. "We're not lost Private...we're in Normandy." This one line displays Winter's ability to instill confidence in his men, even unarmed in the face of all adversity. And this soldier wasn't even a member of Easy Company. Currahee ♠

    Following the action of the battles is sometimes difficult, so I highly recommend the channel Operations Room, which has top down animated videos that cover all the details of most of the battles depicted in the show. There is one about the action to take the guns at Brecourt that is shown in this episode, and whether you do a reaction to it or not it is a really good short video to watch. The videos on that channel become increasingly helpful as the series progresses due to the battles getting much more confusing, but also because it was impossible to recreate some of the future battles on the show exactly as they happened in reality...so the Operations Room's analysis will fill you in on all the variances.

      Watching their video on this battle really gave me an extra appreciation on what Easy accomplished here. The battle lasted hours and Winters had to constantly maneuver his guys around so the Germans could not reorganize and outflank him.

    0:55 shock of the parachute opening. They weren’t sky diving. Military parachuting is a lot different.

    01:35 This what what I was talking about when I said you're good at picking out details as they happen, but seem to forget about them immediately, lol. You're asking here whether they had a mission here, or do they just drop and fight. Well, both, but the point is, in the previous episode you watched two wholeass briefings going over what the mission was. One by Nixon to the officers, then another by Meehan to the troops. It's kinda hilarious, dude.

      @@noahzynski No, dude-I'm telling you, you're watching the stuff where you *_actually comment_* on what you're seeing, and then 5 minutes later, you're asking questions about it. Like in the LOTR Fellowship. You sat there and commented about how cool it was that Bilbo's sword glows blue when orcs are near. Not long after, in the battle in Moria "Oh, cool, his sword's glowing. Why is his sword glowing blue?" Or whatever.
      Don't get offended, it's kind of charming!
