    At 2:32 you talk about being in the rider's draft. You weren't. You were riding upwind of him.

      @TaylorFausak  Год назад +1

      Oh duh, of course! I'm so used to the wind coming from the south that I fooled myself into riding in the wind. That explains why it took so many watts!

    That was a an Awesome video!!! The graphics the numbers on the bottom and with your talking. One of the best video's I have seen all year. I am for sure Subscribing and looking forward to viewing more of your videos. I would have been dropped before the first lap. I just bought a power meter for the first time this year and learning. You guys are like wicked fast!!! Keep up the good work Taylor.

    Even if you are drafting well behind a single rider, the bulk of the riders are behind many riders and they aren't working anywhere near as hard as you. Stay away from the front 3-5 riders. Over time you can't respond to the surges that always happen. Also, you saw yourself getting dropped. You can't have the attitude that they will slow down. Even if they do they are in the draft and you are not so you'll never catch them. Just sprint back on if you can (easier said than done, of course). And number one rule is to not let your brother beat you! All that said- you're out there racing and most people are at home watching RUclips :)

      @TaylorFausak  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to try to avoid these mistakes in the next race. And hopefully finish ahead of my brother!

  • @I-Wumbo-x3b
    @I-Wumbo-x3b Год назад +1

    When the pack surged, I counted almost a full minute you were eating wind. Even in a tailwind it matters to be in the draft! Hop on a wheel as soon as you start floating back and put in a big dig to get back up to speed! It might also help to not look at power during the race since its easy to psych yourself out when you see yourself setting PRs wondering how much longer you can sustain that

    • @TaylorFausak
      @TaylorFausak  Год назад

      Thanks for the tips! I definitely want to work on pushing hard to close down gaps. I'm more of an endurance rider, so I'm usually trying for slow and steady. I think that works against me in crits.

    • @I-Wumbo-x3b
      @I-Wumbo-x3b Год назад

      @@TaylorFausak I'm the same way 😁 I'm sharing from experience! I've got really good 20' power but the punchy stuff used to really beat me up and when a gap opened up I would try to TT back up and it never worked in a race setting. I started really surging (still controlled but like 600+ watts for 30 seconds) to close stuff down and I get dropped way less frequently now!

    Nice, lots of high effort here when you could save energy as it looked to me you enjoyed rush of being up top early (in my old opinion) Could you overlay rpm also, be interesting to see your cadence.

    What’s your average power throughout the race? Last Cat 4 crit I did, about 50 people, stayed in the pack 95% of the time, helped chase 2 early breakaways, finished 12th averaged 27mph, and average power was only 250w. I think staying out of the wind and race craft have a major role to play in these events.

    • @TaylorFausak

      For this race, I averaged about 261 watts. And for context I'm 6 foot 3 and 177 pounds.

  • @kidsafe

    Hmmmm, something is amiss if you're averaging 270W in a 24.3mph non-technical flat 4/5 crit right up until the point you get dropped.

    Oh man this race was surgy for me too that I also got drop at lap 6. I got dropped behind you but had we both caught up with each other I might have worked with you if I felt it in my legs. Not providing enough power to get on a wheel as well as poor drafting is what did it for me, I think.

    ive been workin towards a tt and noticed that consistent power is very important. If u spike it needs to spike for a long duration otherwise its pointless. Short spikes are waste of effort. Ur power numbers go up an down all the time here.

    • @TaylorFausak
      @TaylorFausak  Год назад

      My brother and I have found that overly consistent power output in a crit is something of a liability. I'd prefer to spend more watts for a few seconds to catch up quickly, rather than keeping steady output and eating more wind.

    more of advice to the guy attacking but also to you. at 5:20 you go off the front as another guy went off the front. attacking from the front at bunch speed means you need to exert a lot of energy to accelerate to attacking speed. it would have been much more effective and use far less energy if the guy who attacked had come from the slipstream with speed differential.
    as a little bit of contrastive criticism to yourself, if moves go like that don’t go with it. try be on wheels of riders attacking at speed from behind rather than straight off the front. you need to ask yourself why you are attacking and realistically in that situation at 5:20 it wasn’t to win the race it was because you were in a position to respond at the right time which is a bad reason to attack.
    It’s all about conservation of energy and attacking uses a lot of energy so you want to be fairly sure any moves you get in have a realistic chance of going somewhere

    You have to work on sucking a wheel. You kept saying you were in draft, but you were so far out of it everytime. Even with the cross winds section you said you were in a right to left shelter, but you werent. You were just eating wind.
