I wish I saw this video before the Christmas break 😢 I took off 3 days off work and including the bank holidays it gave me about 6 days off. But I didn’t enjoy any of them at all and felt like there’s something wrong with me and my mental health not being able to enjoy time off work with family and friends. I was so excited to get back to work today and into my routine.
Thanks for making this video as it really resonates with me and especially reading others’ peoples comments are really validating my feelings and making me realise just because it’s “Christmas” doesn’t mean all our stress and problems disappear

My family, who only lives a half hour away, never invited me to Thanksgiving, or for Christmas. No calls, cards or texts. I'm the black sheep. So much for "family".

l lost my husband to leukemia a few years ago! together for 28 y
rs! We used to host parties and dinner, and birthday parties for friends , but when l lost him all my friends disappeared and l have yet to get an invite. It's hard going from a we to a me. The ironic part is the people that we as a group never paid to much attention to are the ones that have taken me in as a friend and l am now in that group. Life has a way of humbling and opening your eyes! This group l will never take for granate!

I hated the holidays as I became an adult. More responsibilities, saving money, paying rent and the added pressure of buying gifts for everyone. I think at one point i realized I had less people in my social circle and less people were with me around Christmas. My birthday is two days after Christmas so that just adds to the depression. Like you said, it really is just a day and you cant let it consume you.

I heard somewhere that 1 in 9 people spend Christmas alone. I used to spend it with family but not anymore. Sometimes I'd go abroad. This Christmas thing usually starts in September and drags on until the 25th of December. All that palaver for just one day! It's a nonsense. I get through it as quietly and painlessly as possible - on my own with my phone switched off.

You're right about how it drags on for three months. Christmas is overrated.

It seems to drag on a bit. All for one day really. Also disrupts things. I'm always pleased when it's January and things back to normal. I think most adults are glad when it's over to be honest. It can be stressful and expensive.

@ yes all these dates are a distraction from our higher purpose & path. Placed there strategically by sinister forces that want us to feel certain ways - and create certain outcomes in a collective slug mentality. Most don’t question it so we are unique & different!

Take control! I spent a lot less this year and went to the city my kids live and gave them the dates I was available. Saw all the grandkids for a bit and it all went smoothly. Next year I’ll spend even less, kids are approaching 49 and most of the grandkids are teens. I’m a senior citizen and will set my boundaries on what I’m willing to do. Today just me and hubby for a quiet day after our travel home yesterday.

I feel so alone especially since I'm now 30 and have never been in a relationship. The only girl that showed me interest treated me like crap and didn't even love me. My craving for love led me to keep pursuing her and it's been years and years. This time of the year for me is again marked by loneliness and negative/obsessive thoughts. It's been really hard to be honest.

Xmas eve I was feeling so low, I'm on my own, this morning I woke up in a silent house and didn't feel like eating, let alone cook. I went to the gym for a sesh with a couple guys who had the key, that transformed my day, I got home, prepped the veg, got it all cooked up lovely. I dished a dinner up for my elderly neighbour which he was thrilled and surprised with. Felt chilled most of the day, abit bored at times but thatl do for me. Better than being in a dark depression. And I had that same drive home last night from seeing my brother, don't know how I got home. Hang on in there guys, happier times are round the corner. Get into weight training if you're not already.

By Christmas, I just got out of Covid isolation and took a car drive with my parents and family. We went to the entertainment place 75 miles away, that I wanted to go and we had a good time. I always find some thing fun to do, even if I have to do it by myself. Yeah, I also told some friends, Christmas gift exchange will be deferred for 2 months due to Covid.

I spent Xmas at a hotel. Then visited a Korean spa. Finally had a meal at the Asian food court. I’m aline but get out like an adventure. This way I have a plan to celebrate and not dwell on being alone. Also, my neighbors might be nosy so I leave for the day so it looks like I have family to visit. I don’t like visiting cousins or siblings as a single person. I always feel like the third wheel.

I miss the big family gatherings and sing alongs! There was a big pre-Christmas get together last year, but nothing this year. Even my aunt’s pre-Christmas party was cancelled this year. The holidays are getting smaller and more isolated (everyone in their own family bubbles). I’ve had very lonely New Year’s Eves. This time of year can really bring you down!

This year has been weird. It doesn't feel like Christmas time or Christmas this year. It feels more like January. Every supermarket I shopped at was not playing Christmas music, there were only a few Christmas decorations around my neighborhood, and have not been in the Christmas spirit. I'm not complaining, but it feels weird. Nobody seems to be in the Holiday spirit, but that's okay. It seems like any other day.

I've been on my own since. I love my pubs but I think I'm going to make some changes next year because when I go to pubs I'm just drinking all day and staring into space. Anyway I'm a happy spirit usually and hopefully next year I will make some changes.

Yes. I miss my husband. I feel like there is nothing left, especially given the recent election in the USA. I've been waiting and hoping that people would accept me for nearly 40 years - now I get it - they don't want to - they hate me - and you know what, that's ok? I get it now. I'll never feel as safe, nor as loved, nor as happy as when I had my husband - and that's my life. But thank you for being sensitive and kind.

The problem is having too much expectation of a date on the calendar. I just got back from Turkey and the atmosphere there at Christmas is much better than here - some nice decorations, but not the lousy music blasted everywhere and without the excessive crowds, shutdowns and freezing cold weather.

I feel this very hard. Last night was really bad. I was having a lot of bad ideation and wanted to just die. Today, I feel a lot different. I realized how ridiculous all this holiday nonsense really is and that many other people struggle the same way I was. A year ago, my ex of 11 years left me in early November, and I am still grappling with spending this time alone for a second year. It's not easy but I look back on the past year and all the progress I've made with myself from where I was when she left. I can honestly say that videos and messages from yourself and others really do make a big difference and have a huge impact on myself and others who are having a rough go of it. Thank you for everything you do. It's truly appreciated, and you're helping a lot of people in a big way. I hope you take care of yourself as well, Jay. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🩹

Hi Jay, i agree with the premise of your video wholly. I like xmas stuff like carols and brass bands but you dont see those as much now. Every xmas i try and lay low but family and work colleagues get in my grill and become overbearing but old friends id like to see are scattered up and down the country at least 100 miles+ some with small kids so its not super easy to arrange meeting up. But despite things ive managed to wangle pleasing myself and being on my own and ive a new episode of wallace and the gromit and the last ever Gavin + Stacey to look forward to. Tidy!

it has been gobbled up by commercialism. People have become so dense that they just spend spend spend and that spending has overridden Christmas and genuine love. My cousin is one such example...people would get her gifts every year and she would go on the internet and search for the cost of every gift. If something was cheap, she'd be eternally offended. I think greed and selfishness are dominant today, whether it's Xmas, Easter or whatever
