That’s good news re Mark & Jolie and so pleased you guys went to Japan, your extended stay has been fantastic. Love the Japanese Defender owners & Gak is the man !
A lot of people say that Mark and Jolie got arrested for flying a drone. I would like to mention that before they took out their video 2 weeks ago, they clearly said that they never flew a thing in Iran and got arrested for no clear reason...
What ever plans you have, life has better ones for you! A great video capturing a raw behind the scenes of what events actually occur. Thanks for the share.
Awesome story and what a great outlook & perspective on the curveballs life tosses your way. Really brings to mind the saying about a window opens when a door closes.
Yepp, same here: plans makes god laugh.... Wanted to retire with 50 years of age and travel the world with my wife, our dog and our Unimog. Got kids, worked as expats for 20 years in Asia, travelled a lot, purchased an old farmhouse, got the chance to buy a small company, have 2 kids study abroad - savings gone, time passed by and now here I am. The Unimog sits in the garage, we are having a cozy home, we are running a nice sustainable and climate neutral ecogood-certified company. Do I regret any of my decisions? Nope.... But the travel bug is itching and will be soothed with smaller, shorter travels. Being flexible allows us to enjoy our changed circumstances of life, we continue to make plans, alter plans and forget plans. Keep on travelling, keep up filming and brighting up the world - really enjoy your channel as one of very few ones. Big virtual hug from snowy Germany.
Great video Leigh, I have been following along since Turkey I think, and you have been on a great journey. It is always good, every now and then to have a little look back at what events brought you to where you are now. Great video guys, chapeau! I reckon in these times there's plenty of dreams temporarily shattered. This video here is almost like a pep talk that most certainly helps all those that had their travel plans killed to keep their spirits high. And you achieve that not only with your always uplifting charme but based on the most important learning there is in overlanding: To not plan too much and instead go with the flow. A lesson we had to learn the hard way as well. Helena and I can't wait to meet you guys down the road some day!

Excellent video and wonderful explanation of "rolling with the punches". Iran arrested a French teacher last year and held her until they "negotiated" a prisoner swap for some Iranians that had murdered people. Often you end up a "toy" of the government and I am glad you did not go at that time to Iran. Governments often suck, even in countries people are more stand offish you will find people to help you often. I am very glad you two are safe and enjoying your new friends and family in Japan. You two make a wonderful couple for the people of Japan to see that travelers are often just normal people too. Stay safe and healthy.
They also arrested an Australian academic in Iran for a conference (Dr. Kylie Moore-Gilbert) and held her in jail for 2 years. She was only rescued/released 2 weeks ago in exchange for 3 Iranian prisoners held in Thailand.

Hi, can you please advise me as a new comer to this lifestyle on how to plan an intercontinental crossing with my RV. I'm currently in Saudi Arabia and looking to travel to Europe. Many thanks and love watching your videos.
Hello I think you are in a good position to travel to Europe with many options. You could travel to Egypt from Saudi then ship to Italy. Or even a ferry from UAE to Iran and travel west from there. Turkey, Greece etc... This is of course when borders are open and the world back to normal, when that finally happens... 🤞
G day Ali, I did that trip in 1979 with a car. Very easy... drive to Dammam turn left pass Rastanura to Kuwait direction Basra and turn left to direction Jordan, turn left after you arrive again to Turkey. Pass the Bosporus and there you have 2 options. Inland or seaside. Turn anywhere left again and you are in Italy. I went there straight to Austria an Munich. Yes, No map no gps. 1 compass was good enough the rest was asking truckies on fuel stops. I guess you speak and read Arabic makes it easier on the road in the beginning. Safe trip. Cheers mate

Welcome to Russia
or maybe you could've traveled to Russia. it has all of the landcapes
We transited Russia twice last year. One day we'll return with a longer visa so we can explore this massive beautiful country properly 😉
did they get out of iran with their rig?
They got out, but I think without the troopy. There was an episode where they talked about their capture, but it's no longer listed on their channel. If you've got some time to kill their video's are worth a bing watch (maybe over the holidays?) ruclips.net/user/TheWayOverlandvideos
Mate, why did you buy a Landrover???? They are the most unreliable, uncomfortable, vehicle out there!. Should have bought a Toyota. Great video, and a interesting journey.
Come and visit Pakistan, and explore the beauty of Pakistan to the world
We will definitely one day come to Pakistan 😉
@@leighdearle5965 I saw your trip to wakhan in Afghanistan, wakhan is quiet near to Pakistan
@@leighdearle5965 whenever you guys plan for Pakistan... please announce in advance... would love to do a meet up!!
We did research on entering Pakistan from Afghanistan but unfortunately it wasn't possible at that time.
We'll definitely get there we promise. We have heard so many great things.
We do regular real time updates on Instagram 😉
@@leighdearle5965 great... I do follow your IG!!
Do you know why Mark and Julie got arrested and how they are now?
They flew a drone. Released after 3 months last year.
Dommage les sous titres son indisponible
Very sorry but we really don't have the time to do the subtitles on the mid week videos.
I make these videos not Steph. Friday's videos will always have subtitles.
In french please.........et Steph? Merci
Sorry the mid week videos don't have subtitles...
Steph doesn't have time to do them as she spends her time editing Friday's video.
This will always have subtitles.
Hi, can you please advise me as a new comer to this lifestyle on how to plan an intercontinental crossing with my RV. I'm currently in Saudi Arabia and looking to travel to Europe. Many thanks and love watching your videos.
Hello
I think you are in a good position to travel to Europe with many options.
You could travel to Egypt from Saudi then ship to Italy.
Or even a ferry from UAE to Iran and travel west from there.
Turkey, Greece etc...
This is of course when borders are open and the world back to normal, when that finally happens... 🤞
@@leighdearle5965 great 👍 thank you
G day Ali, I did that trip in 1979 with a car. Safe trip. Cheers mate
@@holgermuller2987 indeed like this option and u made it seems easy and simple ;) can't wait to kick it off... stay safe mate and many 😊 🙏 thanks
@@holgermuller2987 thanks for the first hand information 🙏😉
Sounds like an incredible experience ❤️
@@laurentcaraland1404 I'm so sorry... 🙏😔
I should of learned better French after all these years I know.
@@leighdearle5965 don't worry Leigh it's just a joke! :) take care of yourself
aucune traduction possible! dommage.
Bonjour, je vous dis merde pour la suite.
