Honda Accord Captive Rotor Delete

- Today I swapped out the captive brake rotor system for the more traditional floating rotor system in my 1996 Honda Accord. I used the parts from a 1998 Acura cl. Overall the process isn't super difficult it is just time consuming and it's a hassle finding the parts.

Really good info. If you have ever done this brake job folks, there is absolutely no reason not to do this conversion
Just did the brakes on my 1990 , Man, I wish I had found this first.....Great job!!
Great video... very helpful. I have a 97 EX wagon and the 2.3 CL rotors were too small. Apparently the wagons have a larger front brake setup so I went with the 3.0 CL rotors and they fit perfect.
Did you have to swap spindle from cl? I have a wagon and finding the info is next to impossible on upgrades/swaps
@@apelnkn2230 yes I used the spindles from the 2.3 cl same as what the guy recommended in this video
@@superchargedfirebird thank you man, trying to get rid of the hub over rotor setup on my wagon
Charles you are 100% correct. I am doing the exact same thing to my 94 wagon and 2.3 CL rotors are too small and brake pad over hangs.
Please tell me this wheel and hub bearing works on the rear too. I have a 94 accord ex so I have trapped rotors on the front and back
Great info thinking about doing this to my 93 accord
Finally a video that is helpful 👍🏼
Great video !
GREAT VIDEO! Love it! I agree it's hard to find the exact parts online. I'm not worried about doing this swap anymore!
It doesnt ruin the bearing just use longer bolts in a pattern it will push the bearing out Eric the car guys video shows exactly how to do it
Can anyone answer my question ? If I’m trying to order new bearing for the conversion is all 4 bearing the same cuz I only see front bearings ?not rear
Oh shoot does the 98 acura cl bearing not fit onto the 96 honda accord? Please tell me they do cuz i already ordered it..
What rotors can you run in the front any accord 98+?
If you search hard enough you can find these on ebay. They are around $100 per hub and bearing though.
I’m not able to find it tho....all I’m seeing are the captive rotor type for the Acura CL ‘98
@@raymension9480 search for the seller "worldpartspro"
@@theraidnade thanks much
I'm curious does this work for all the Honda and Acura models that have the stupid hubs? I want to replace mine for the 1996 Acura TL
Will this swap fit a cb7? Or 1990 accord?
Get the longer bolts that are hardened to remove the hub.
Bruh i just bought a 96 accord 5 speed and the brakes are shot and i almost just bought new rotors and pads but now im gonna do this instead. So your telling me all i need is the acura cl hub?
Hey where’d you get those rims from, I can’t find any for my 1997 Honda accord
Is the bearing the same oem bearing?
Does a 98-99 CL 4 cylinder hub not bolt onto the accord spindle? That way you don't have to press an accord bearing into a Acura hub..?
It would, but if you're doing all this work, may as well replace the bearing so you know it's new. Plus the accord and acura bearings are identical which is why this swap is possible.
Good video, ... all axles go to the transmission.
And are the studs still 4x114 or they go to 4x100 ?
Hey man where did you get this kit please let me know
CE7, CE8, and CE9 have captive rotors aswell on the front.
I heard you could also use a 1st gen odyssey hub
Thank you for this video. Would this setup work on a 1995 Accord V6 Sedan? Thanks
Wondering the same. I have a 95 v6 and looking to do this conversion but I can't get answers as to if this is the same or not 😔
Is it safe to run without plastic wheel well. Mine fell off at 85 on a 300 mile roadtrip had to use twine to remount wiring harness 😂 thank God I pulled over before it got severed by the wheel
As far as safety goes i'm pretty sure its fine, but not having them allows for your tires to kick up rocks and dirt behind your fender which could lead to future problems and possible rust. My car came without one of the plastic wheel wells and I recently lost the other one while on a roadtrip too lol I plan on replacing them soon
@@StayTunedGarage about to go rip some parts off a parts car should get the liners and hardware
Got all the parts but had to buy aftermarket hubs...hope they're good.
Where did you get hubs

Will the hub from a 97 acura cl work? Is it the same as the 98-99?
no, it's the same as the hub that is stock.
Hey this would also work on a 1990 Honda Accord?
I am not 100% sure if this will work on a 1990 Honda Accord. I know the design is similar but I couldn't tell you off the top of myhead. Sorry
Where have you been all my CARs life! 🥰🥰🥰😘😘 bro! I just bought all the shit to do the regular rotor swap and spent like 4 Billz! Can't belive ETCG hasn't done one of deez.
I went online and found 3 different hubs for the 1998 Acura cl 4 cylinder so I dont think it's impossible. But it was tricky
If you could send me a link to them I would love to throw it in the description
@@StayTunedGarage I closed the tab but just go on carid and put in 1998 Acura cl and put in the 4 cylinder variant when it asks you
is this Acura part a 2.2 or a 2.3
Can also freeze the hub and bake the bearing... No need for a hydro press
Can you do a 95 accord
Damn I wish you showed us removing the hub out of the Acura CL cause I have zero clue how
What year car is this?
Is the hub of the 6th Gen (1998-2002 i think) the same as/interchangeable with the Acura CL? I 'eyeball' them to be the same, but I'm not entirely sure.
The Acura CL was not sold in my country, but I want to do this also with my 96 accord so I'm looking for alternatives.
I was thinking the same thing, lots of 6th gen parts
Such a great video! Amazing info and help! You’re the next big thing, keep it up dude! 😂❤️😋💕😘😁😖😜🥰☘️🐣👌😫😋👌🥳🤩🤯🤫
In the future I will do the swap. wait inn the Future
y not just grab the 2000 accord and just swap out the complete hubs... 4 nuts and a brake line .. bolt off bolt on and bleed
Does it fit on a 95 accord wagon?
So you don't need the steering knuckle?
sounds like a hassle, better off just getting new accord hubs when changing the rotos.
I agree I replaced my rotors 4 years ago and they still working perfect no need to go through all that hassle I'm ok with doing it every 4 or 5 years
But now you need all new alignment
Why waste all that time when you could of just bought a whole spindle ?
That’s what ima do for mine
and why would the bearing break?
What’s the bolt pattern for those new hubs?
The new hubs are the same exact bolt pattern. 4x114.3
Thank you for watching!
