Thanks Mandy and Lee! I've been looking forward to these Philippine videos! I attended a Philippino wedding reception once and the food was WONDERFUL! 😊 I hope both of you are still doing well. 🐕🤗🇵🇭
Hello MyDog 👋 We're so pleased to hear that you've been looking forward to our Philippines videos 🙏🤩 We had an excellent time there, and it will be great to get your feedback on whether the Philippines is as you imagined. We're both well, thank you, and hope you are as well. We arrived in India 4 days ago and are currently enjoying the monsoon in Kerala 🤗😊
Hi Mandy and Lee, long time no comments,so sorry....... but it's so nice to see you both enjoying life to the full as always. You really do have a unique and honest way of describing the places you visit and I am looking forward to watching your Philippine vlogs. Many thanks Karen.

@@FrugalTravellers most welcome frugal travellers ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😘
Another interesting place 🙏❤️🇬🇧
Take care & stay safe x
Thank you, Steve. We hope you enjoy our Philippines series, and we appreciate your great comments 🙏🤗
Hi Mandy & Lee,
Magellan (Magalhães) was probably the least respected explorer back in his time.
Portugal perceived him as a traitor and Spain's didn't trust him coz he betrayed his native country.
I find amazing that most colonial buildings are well kept and still standing. (Not just in the Philippines but almost everywhere).
Enjoy your weekend, take care 🙋🏻♂️
Hi Sergio 👋
I love the stories of the great explorers of that era and relish reading about them. It must have been amazing to travel those seas when the maps were blank.
It's a sad story of his demise and he probably shouldn't have got caught up in the local conflict. I find it fascinating that some of the lesser known crew made it round on the full circumnavigation of the globe but are unheard of in the history books.
It's a pleasure to visit these colonial buildings and use your imagination to feel how it would have been all those years ago. 🙏
Have a great weekend. 👍
Thanks for the tour :)
Thank you so much, Imo 🙏🤗 We have another pivot going on at the moment... which means a slow start to our Philippines series but I'm sure it will pick up. Thank you for telling us about the pivot issue, as that helps alleviate our concerns when new videos don't do so well 😊🤩
Hi, Mandy. Your dessert was TURON (TUU-rohnn), ripe plantain with jackfruit in a lumpia (LOOM-pyah) wrapper and fried in hot oil with sugar tossed in.
Yeah, if you stay for your very first time in a cheap area, it could look dodgy. But you just have to wak, jeepney, metro to more interesting bits.
A lot of vegeyarian looking dishes will be flavored with animal protein or essence/sauce, so please do ask if you want to avoid animal protein altogether.
Pandesal is pan de sal or bread [made with] salt, a bread roll. Eat hot with Philippine tsokolate (deepest darkest hot chocolate, no milk involved)
My faves are chicken adobo, caldereta, pancit, turon, biko... Entrees are seasoned to eat with and be balanced by plain rice, sonplease follow suite to maximize yiur dining experience. 😊
Thanks, Ruth for all the great tips. It was so much fun discovering all the new dishes here that are so varied and interesting. Even if it was a challenge to try and stay vegetarian.
The Philippinos are all so friendly and helpful when it comes to our constant questions and inquiries. 🤣🤣
@@FrugalTravellers 🤗Yes, they are. Just enjoy it all and avoid the sketchy bits as you're already doing. My peeps are from Eastern Samar in the typhoon belt, a bit hard to get to and still a bit underdeveloped which has helped keep it more pristine than more developed areas. You'll find food specialities unique to the areas you visit.
I'm enjoying seeing the places you're visiting bc i was always to overheated to bother with historical sights, so kudos to you bold explorers 🤗.
Welcome in the Philippines 🇵🇭 ma'am sir and MABUHAY.
Thank you so much, Benedicto! We had a wonderful time in the Philippines, and there'll be 11 more videos coming on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the next few weeks 🇵🇭♥️
🍺!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
We had such a wonderful time in the Philippines 🤗🇵🇭♥️
Looks a very interesting city.hopw your both wellxx
Hello Julie 🤗 Yes, Manila is a fascinating city... it took me a while to warm to it, but I'd love to return and explore more! We're in India at the moment, trying to dodge the monsoon rain every day but not always succeeding 🙏🤗😁
@FrugalTravellers have a lovely time, hope you get some sunshine 🌞
Hi Mandy and Lee, thanks for another interesting video. Enjoyed the history, but felt a bit sad to realise l knew nothing of their suffering in the hands of the Japanese during the war.
Hi Alison 👋 Yes it taught us a lot too when we got to Manila and heard the stories. It was the second most destroyed city of the war after Warsaw. So sad so much destruction. 😌 The Philippinos are a happy and resilient people though. 🙏❤️
Visit arroceros forest park
Thanks for the advice. We'll make a note for next time. 🙏👍
Malungay pandesal is healtier than normal pandesal (if you can get one)
Thank you for the great advice, Bob. What is Malungay?
@@FrugalTravellers its a vegetable leaf that is rich in anti oxidant, healthy snd normally put in Mungo dish or Tinola
@@FrugalTravellersit’s moringa in English. I’m enjoying watching your 🇵🇭 vlogs.
@@FrugalTravellerspande coco 💛 is a good pastry also. It has sweetened coconut inside.
Intramuros would suggest a walled city. Do the walls still exist? Edit: should have known you would cover that!
Hahhha... that's so lovely, Carolina. Thank you so much for your great comments and your support 🙏🤗🤩
The entire wall still exists, the circular street beside the wall (inside) is Calle Muralla.
@@jboycaceres2871 Thank you so much for sharing this information 🙏🤗
Banana-que! Banana on a stick ! 😋
Delicious and sweet and naughty indeed. ❤️
@@FrugalTravellers 😄 BTW, there are hundreds of banana varieties in the Philippines, so go ahead and become scholars. The one you enjoy in turin and babana-Q are Saba bananas. Hardly any filipinos can be bothered with Cavendish bananas that we call bananas in westernish countries. And those are all i know, so i am ready to ge schooled with you❣
it would be a bit tough for vegetarians or vegans to look for something to munch in the 🇵🇭, because Pinoy dishes are more on meat, but we also have veggie dishes.
Thanks for that, Arnel. I was so happy to find pinakbet... such a delicious dish.
Do you use esim as never bought data in Thailand and therefore couldnt use grab etc.. want to next time..
Hello Ibunny. No, we've never used an eSIM. I'll actually be going to Thailand in August with my sister for 3 weeks, and will be looking to buy a local SIM. If you go before I do, please let me know what you did re: buying a Thai SIM card 🙏🤗 ~ Mandy
I just used free wifi in hostels @@FrugalTravellers
rizal wanted philippines to be part of spain and for filipinos to have equal standing with the spanish and have filipino represenatives in spain, but spain dont want to have equal footing with filipinos.and reason why they kill rizal because he wanted equality between spaniards and filipinos,he wanted philippines to be recognized as province of psain ,and also he wrote book which is requirement for every highschool students in philippines to read and learn, and also do a reenactment or a play.the two books are el filibusterismo "the reign of greed" and noli me tangere english meaning "do not touch me" .you should buy the book if you like to reading
Thank you so much for sharing this information about Rizal with us, paulgeorge It was fascinating learning about him in the Rizal Museum in Fort Santiago, which we showed in this video: ruclips.net/video/ds1fqOqD0R8/видео.htmlsi=YHXug0fnLm4hSUVk
Rizal was such an incredibly intelligent and gifted person, and I can so see why he is a national hero 🇵🇭♥️
By sheer chancecwent for walk in London leading to Primrose Hill area there is a beautiful house and honorary blue plaque in commemoration of Rizal. You have answered my question all about this national hero.
Welcome to the real Manila, not the hyped bubble BGC.
Yes, this is the Manila that we prefer 👍😊
Vegetarian for filipino ppl means vegetable with lesser meat l😂😂😂, its true philippines is mostly meat lover country. Vegans may not survive
Yes, I did notice that, Bob. Even my vegan mongo in Port Barton had fish in it 🤗🤣
Very nice video and appreciate your effort(from India)
Awesome 🙏 Thanks so much. We hope you found it useful. 😊
And, just so you know... we're in India now! We're in Kerala and will be heading north next week on a 11-hour RAC overnight sleeper train. Wish us luck 🙏🤗😀
@@FrugalTravellers which place are you going in North India.
@@FrugalTravellers am at bangalore.silicon valley
@sudeep160 We're heading to Kolkatta as want to go to Bangladesh, and are going via Chennai. We were originally thinking of going via Bangalore but there weren't any trains available for a few weeks.
