We released this episode last week, but someone reported it to RUclips as gratuitously violent. Lame. RUclips put an age restriction on it which limits who can watch the episode. We appealed as we vehemently disagreed because there are literally thousands of videos on RUclips showing you how to gut a pig and this is an educational opportunity for kids that aren’t able to see how their ancestors cooked. We lost our appeal on the other upload. So we are reposting this version which is edited to exclude the preparation of the pig. To see the uncensored version and see how Samoans prepare a pig for the umu, sign in and follow this link: ruclips.net/video/s922dJwdCxc/видео.html
Lusi Myer yep. I’m wondering if someone thought we drowned the pig. I’m not sure. We shot the pig in the head and killed it instantly. But then we had to get the hair off and the way they do it here is to boil water and dunk the deceased pig in there. I’m guessing that’s what was objectionable to RUclips. I’m not sure. But at the end if the day, if a video gets age restricted, RUclips doesn’t show it to as many people and also, you can’t earn any money from ads, unfortunately.
JAMily TV Hard to say. I know they dunk the pig in hot water to remove the hair. I believe its the same with chickens to remove the feathers? To me the kill (even though quick) would be more confronting than when its dead and being dunked. Whether I am in the majority I dont know ?,but Id say so. Drowning the pig...wow.. maybe?..pretty crazy idea though. It's a bit tough especially as you put up a warning too. I think they were unfair. What was their explanation?
All these years i been eating palusami, never knew the meaning of why its called palusami, but today i learnt something. Awesome faafetai for this video.
I loved watching old people making palusami they're so cute I miss my grandfather 👍 love everything about this video it makes me want to go home and see my family ofa atu Jamily family keep dm videos coming 💯
Yeah they’re AWESOME! Sorry you miss your grandfather. I miss mine too. He was a legend. We’re trying to do as many as we can! The one we are currently working on had 8 hours of footage. Taking us a while to cut it down to 20-25 mins of awesomeness!! ❤️🇼🇸
Ieti's running commentary is on point. They make lu'au wrapping look so easy. I've done it many times but can never master the art like these seasoned pros. Probably the most detailed umu vid thus far. RUclips's pettiness with their censorship parameters are a pain sometimes. Who knows, maybe they thought the pig suffered mental stress, had nightmares, countless sleepless nights, or even lost the ability to wear earrings since Ieti marked its ear for identification purposes. Thank you for, yet again, another gem.
Tears this is such a wonderful display of our perfect traditions that are dear to me and I am so happy to see you do a video on the umu and showing the hardworking islanders that put together a beautiful feast on a weekly basis for within the family can come together and have replenished meal Thank you so much for sharing. Great job guys!
i miss home😩 hope you guys get to visit more of Savai'i❤ watching your vids all the way from China, helps when i'm homesick and brings me closer to home. I appreciate it❤❤
Very detailed explanation, thank you for this upload. It takes me back when I was a little girl watching my brothers and dad do the umu. IMy part is eating the o'o, penu and drink sua ole popo.
Faafetai lava usoz...really love this clip. Every detail well explained, I never knew that the word meaning PALUSAMI was a mix of coconut cream n sea water in the old days. Really miss Samoa just by watching this clip. Keep it coming n GO SAMOAN all the way. this is many a reason why I adore n admire my Samoan heritage from me mums side. Bravo n Averdeci, Manuia lava Samoa.❤🇼🇸 Italiano Samoano 🇮🇹❤
Malo Lava Uso! This was the best Umu video I’ve seen so far educational way. I love how you explained everything for all types of people to Understand not just Samoan. God bless and Talofa from Laie Hawaii!!!🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Awesome content joe and Leti, i mean its always great to showcase how we prepare UMU in the most organic Samoan style - and we can all learn and share our beautiful recipes, and culture with the rest of the world!! So proud and please keep it comin... mauia
Omg someone reported this video? Smh 🤦🏻♀️ I don’t know why people can’t just fast forward the bits they don’t want to see. Glad you re uploaded it. Looks like that 1 dislike if the person who reported it 🤣🤣🤣
It wasn’t actually this one. This is the edited version. This is the uncensored version: ruclips.net/video/s922dJwdCxc/видео.html But yes!! Skip forward!! We even tell you when it’s about to happen and tell you where to come back!! Thanks for defending us! ❤️❤️❤️
Sorry Joe, some people are offended with anything and everything. It's crazy to me when these people don't know nothing of this Samoan culture, and yet judge with nonsense. But I do appreciate your videos and amazing pictures of this island which is beautiful. Thank you Joe. God bless you and your family.
Wow nice to learn the meaning of the name palu sami. I’ve asked my dad once but he always make jokes and doesn’t tell me the correct answer instead. Lol
Great presentations you guys. Just don’t forget the kagoa faimea’ai, the traditional one from the ifi wood cause we didn’t have apa for the pe’epe’e in those days. Thank you for the great video.
Wow that umu looks so yummy esp the pua’a. Well done to you and goodos to the guys :) btw, the person who reported must either be a vegetarian or a man baby who have not explored the realities of life 😑
That was seki as. Awesome video Jamily👍 Malo lava Leti. I loved how you explained everything with detail👌 Damn I sooo wanted to have some of that mouth watering umu towards the end😆 I cracked up @ the Pet Supu story.."Aye! That looks like Supu's leg!"😂🤣
I miss this. After my dad passed I haven't seen or participated in an umu. I'd help my dad with the palusami n prepping other dishes. The scrapping of talo n ulu were left to my brothers. Along with the pig.
Joe I have an idea for your show. On Sunday mornings(4am to 7am) there are a lot of stalls that open up at the fish market with freshly made umu products. Their is so much food there every morning lol. You would love it. I work at Digicel and every Sunday morning it's my go to place to get breakfast and tooana'i lol
All good....but you should have been there or shown the opening of the umu...thats the highlight i guess.....next time eh....keep up the great videos...love it and have told all my friends about it to 👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺
It's sad why RUclips censored this clip when it's educational especially how Samoan cooked meal other very olden days, it's disappearing now but I glad few a still doing it
I just saw you stayed in my beautiful village of manase I hope you enjoy your time and your stay I just comment on your last video hihi seki savaii missing home a lot. Manuia
Of all the dumb things people put on RUclips someone complained about an informative umu video? Out of all the weird and offensive public videos you can watch, your umu video gets age restricted ? On a wholesome family friendly Chanel aswell ? That’s real lame
I know....it’s my fault. I didn’t have it edited in time to post earlier today before we had to leave for some appointments so it got waylaid. It’s coming though! ❤️❤️

Hi Lusi true dat when I took my family to Samoa and it was the first time my son Brian watched a pig being slaughtered he cried his little heart out never again!!!
Eseta Loa Aww poor Brian. It can be confronting....especially for a child. One must be careful not to traumatise a child. I think we just have to remember that some of us haven't grown up seeing that so it's harder to deal with.
