Business Class on my LEAST FAVORITE Airline / Ethiopian Airlines

- Ethiopian Airlines, you guys know, I am NOT a fan... That being said, I sometimes HAVE to use their services depending on what country I need to go to. After all, Ethiopian Airlines is the airline with the most destination within Africa.
After many BAD experiences with this "The New Spirit of Africa" as they like to call themselves and by that I mean, terrible food, flight delays and planes which are literally falling apart, I decided to threat myself with a Business Class ticket.
Because I refused to pay almost $4,000CAD for the full trip in Business Class, there and back, I simply booked all my flights Economy and then made an offer to be upgraded on the longest flight.
Long story short, I flew from Nairobi, Kenya to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in Economy Class and from there I flew Business Class (after of course visiting their flagship Business Class lounge) to Libreville, Gabon and finally Yaoundé, Cameroon. This upgrade was really worth it's price since I had to wait inside the plane for just over an hour while in Gabon.
Even if I was not expecting much from Ethiopian Airlines Business Class, I have to give credit where credit is due. The seat was comfortable with a tone of space, the food was delicious and well presented and finally the highlight of this Business Class experience, the cabin crew. Each flight attendant was extremely caring and friendly which made the flight even better.
On the negative side, my USB outlet did not work, the cabin was a little worn off, and the entertainment selection was not very large. That being said, I would still recommend it if you have a long flight and if you can get a last minute deal like I did.

Ethiopian Airlines is ranked 11th in the world's top 100 Airlines. At skytrax 2022 world Airline awards held in London Ethiopian Airlines won four awards including best airlines 4 consective years, best bussiness class 4 consecutive years, best economy 4 consecutive years, best bussiness class on board catering. Ethiopia moved up from 26 to 11 top airlines in the world. Anybody that knows anything about airlines knows Ethiopian Airlines is a giant not just in africa but in the world.
These awards are not always legitimate. Have a look into it. With that being said, this review was not that harsh.

Probably the best airline in Africa, in my humble opinion. Their local Ethiopian food served in business class on flights out of Addis is absolutely top notch. On top of that their beautiful Ethiopian uniforms, a very unique touch most airlines do nothing about. Surprised by your "negative" experience.
Their business is ok but their economy is so bad that it does not make up for it. This is just my opinion.

Ethiopian Airlines always my #1 choice! Best pilots! New planes, lovely flight attendants. Over all better than most even western airlines.
Sadly they use the old broken planes to fly within Africa and the new ones to go to Europe. I always choose Qatar! 👍🏼

The first class is good for sure but I had many bad experiences in Economy...
If you have a bad experience with ET don't fly with them again PERIOD! No excuses! If you said you don't have any choice then the joke is on you because there is no way they can be the worst airline and offered so many fleets in Africa at the same time. Dude they offered you something that nobody did. They took you the destination you wanted to be which is no one offered. BE LOGICAL!

As an Ethiopian who grew up being Told that Ethiopian Airlines is the one of the best in the world, it's kind of a bit refreshing to hear negative things about it too. i didn't hate your views
I appreciate your feedback. You know, the reason why I am so harsh with them IS BECAUSE of the fact that they always claim to be sooo good. I had many very bad experiences with them where the seats were broken, flights are always late, bad food, etc. But like O said in this video about their Business Class, for the price, it's not perfect buy it's ok. Generally tho, Economy Class is bad!
Ethiopian airlines is for sure the Best airline in Africa which makes it the Pride of Ethiopia and the new spirit of Africa!!!!!: may be the plane you were flying is a bit old as it is a triple seven but try Ethiopian flight again for sure the chance you will get an old plane is very rare unlike other African airlines. try their airbus and Boeing 787 they are very new. they are now converting their old planes to cargo and buying new airplanes.
I sadly had many bad experience on ET in Economy class on both the 777 and the 787. BUT the business class was overall nice. 👍🏼

One thing I notice here that I always notice when I fly Kenya Airways is that there is almost no privacy. When I sit in the front row of economy, I can still see right through the curtain into the business cabin, and you can really see everything going on in there. I imagine the other people in business can also see what each other is doing. I wish they had a shutter or some kind of mini wall in between the seats and aisle

Yeah but you pay 300k vs 70 k the people in economy pay. I would say it's nothing personal by the airline, it's just value for money.
Cloud 9 is what they call their business class experience. And yeah that was a crazy amount of food!

Are masks optional on Ethiopian airlines and in their airports? We will be flying in January.
Im not 100% but I can tell you that 75% of people do not wear them in the airport and same on the planes.
I had difficulties to match the title of the video with the experience you had on this flight. Then when reading comments and reply, i understood that it was mainly due to previous bad experiences on the same airlines. It could have been great to review each flight separately. At the end, I do agree that when tasting middle east airlines (you seems fan of Qatar Airways like me), it's difficult to be expect less..
I'm just staying true to myself. I don't like this airline very much and even tho this flight was fine at best it is still my least favorite airline.

Good review thank you. I have noticed everytime I fly from Uk most airlines are the new ones but when connecting to Kenya/ Africa they tend to put old aeroplanes..doesn’t make sense at all looking forward to your next vlog 💕

Seems biased to me. Not much made of the 6 seats across when 5 is the norm. A big thing is you have to step over a bed to get to the aisle, most other top airlines are or have already phased this out.

@@rosenjiru4907 Kenya Airways🤣🤣 is a trash compared to Ethiopian. old and uncomfortable planes, their IFE doesn't work well and it is not up-to-date, they don't even feed you well in their long flights. one of their strategy to overcome their loss is to save money by giving you small food lol. a mess!!!!! I tried it not good.

95% people love Ethiopian airlines. 5% people hate Ethiopian airlines. therefore Ethiopian should do their research why those 5% hate it and then improve its service further. Et all the way my best and favorite airlines. for me no other airline in Africa can compete with Ethiopian. and it is a good competitor with the ME3!!

All these comments defending Ethiopia airlines- I think their customer service sucks! When the borders closed due to Covid in Ghana- they gave me the biggest run around and wouldn't honor my voucher so I lost out on a ticket.

Well... what can I say... I was in business class on my least favorite airline. I had so many issues flying ET in economy but overall the business class is... not too bad.

I really disappointed the way rated the air lines. They are the best in everything. As you experienced. Everything was perfect.and you put it in the least list. I hope you. Correct it again.they deserve better review.
Here is my point of view. Ethiopian is NOT a great airline. Most reviews online are negative. Their economy class is awful but the business is fine like I said in this video. The food was fine the service very good but the plane was old and the movie selection not that great. On top of that the flight was late just like every single time I travel with them.
Why are so many people arguing with his opinion? This is HIS experience and HIS opinion based on that.I also am not a fan of ETA, so- best in Africa- Africa is not the only destination in the world.

All businesses take criticism from their customers. If they can't hear criticism and learn from some of it, then in the end, they won't continue to do well.
If i have a monopoly, then sure, my company can get away with not worry what customers may think. But if somone clelse comes to compete, then the business would lose out.
Those are good points but for now this airline has most of the African market.

Air Jamaica (bought out by Caribbean airlines which was formerly BWIA), had all the Caribbean market.
There were issues, but they basically had a monopoly.
When their was LIAT, we'd joke that L.I.A.T. stood for Leave Island Any Time. Cause the flights were always delayed.
But guess what, now Caribbean Air has to compete with JetBlue! They have a larger fleet, and way more destinations, and in many ways, their service is better.
So, if Caribbean people just take it personal when criticism is made, Caribbean Airlines won't be able to be competitive.
As it was, after Air Jamaica was sold, another airline called "Fly Jamaica" was started. Many people took offense when criticism was made. Many issues were not resolved. And now where is Fly Jamaica? I took a flight with them August 2013. I think by end of 2014 they were gone.
If Jetblue or American Airlines or Delta etc suddenly decides "you know, we want to get a foothold in Africa, we're seeing a market of "untapped" travelers", if people just go by "Ethiopia Air is OUR airline. And not listen to constructive criticism without being defensive, then you'll have another Fly Jamaica or Caribbean Airlinea on your hands🤷🏾♀️

The business cabin definitely looks sad and outdated, but it's an African airline so no shocker there. The food and service looked great though.
