- The South African Icebreaker "AGULHAS" arrives at the Fimbulheim ice shelf 11th December 2016. Besides doing various scientific research for the South African research Agulas is there to bring people, equipment and supplies to and from their Antarctica base called SANAE. To meet up with them we came with two Arctic Trucks cars from Novo airbase, 650 km away along the Fimbuheim ice shelf equipped with radar satellite imagery and Ground Penetrating Radar to avoid life threatening crevasses along the way.
The video is shot with DJI Mavic Pro drone.
1:53 the most random pickup trucks ever... Just making a quick stop in the middle of Antarctica
Driving 650k on that ice shelf is an accomplishment in its self. Congrats to you and your crew!
Is the ice shelf on sea or continental Antarctica?
I was part of that team. It was a great experience.
Woo what a scene. Once in a lifetime experience.
but can it break the ice between me and my crush?
It's way too thick man!
It does ice not courage
Incredible. It almost looks like a barrier to another world.
Don'y you even think about going flat earther.
@Heidi Corbett
Depends on which longitude you are on. As you cross you could hit the south pacific ocean or south america or africa or australia .
the earth is not flat has been proven at nauseum and daily by long haul pilots and those in the international space station.
@@wcresponder Send a stratospheric ballon with camera (WITHOUT FISH EYE LENSE) 100km above the earth...You will see flat horizont ;)
@@jakubheliniak1156 You are delusional.
It would hit your sky dome and knock out the fake sky screens.
Isn't that what they tell you are the flat earth cult meetings.
The book of enoch or that spanish book the girl from behind the ice walls
The ice the ship broke is sea ice, the same ice that you find at the north pole. The ice that you should worry about is the ice stored in them cliffs
The aliens are gonna be pissed if you break thru their base with that ship...👽
Shame, I couldnt hear any audio. To show such a rate sight without any narration is too bad. Would have loved to know more. Fascinating, though!
Kind of looks like computer animation. Either way, there's a whole continent under all that ice which is crazy to think about
Actually not strictly true. The ice shelf is the floating ice off the edge on the continent. Sea water under this ice.
I recall seeing an icebreaker with a snout-like bow that blew compressed air up, under the ice. This threw the ice onto the ice sheet next to the channel formed. This cleared the channel and without ice in the channel, it didn't freeze over as quickly.
BTW FYI this ship is named after the southernmost cape on the African continent. Cape of Good Hope is NOT the most southern.
Why did he stop at the ice shelf? Comeon man, throttle up and push through!
I'm guessing high school was the toughest 6 years of your life. Dumb fuck.
Joe Smith Nope, it was when I went to college and studied liberal arts so that I could work at starbucks and drive a prius with hillary bumper stickers. Save the environment!
And for you it's the remaining 60-70 years after that.
@Maximus Thane where to a deep dark hole the earth is not flat
@@BiggusDickus2 You we're stupid a year ago, and by your recent post .....your still stuck on stupid!
After the ship breaks through the glacier, the glacier melts quickly and the global temperature rises. It equally damages the polar bear's habitat.
I'm tremendously shocked to see all of this comments. For me, it was totally clear since I was 4 or 5 y/o why ice breaker ships exist, because my dad was a sailor.
I recommend, all of you who don't know much about science, to read some basic science books. In germany we have "Was ist Was?"-Books for example and they are really good. They explain simple stuff, so that even non-academics and children can understand the topics.
(in english, they are called "How and Why Wonder Books")
THZ go on then apart from them moving there 4x4s to the pole why do they break the ice to the pole?
what do you mean by "4x4s"?
THZ 4:22 4x4 means a 4 wheel drive vehicle, It's not that hard to work out
THZ also any answer to my question? What's the reason for smashing all the ice on the way to the pole?
I'm sorry. As you can see, I watched the docu 2 weeks ago (and my native language is not english, but you can't know that)
It was awesome to be part of that team.
How long was the night?
Thats a badass thick ice!
Can anyone link me a video of someone sailing around that ice wall, or one that shows the begin and end of it? Not a conspiracy theorist, I just wanna see how big it is 😅
I wonder what kind of engines are on that puppy and how many horses they put out
I liked the background music... 😂😂
Yes, It's so satisfying.
where the music ?
To a novice youtuber music can be tricky copy right even on editing software sometimes
They are just breaking the ice sheets all around the shelf, but why are they doing that? So that commercial ships can enter?
I really want to feel this experience.if I got chance in my life...
Looks like this ship was built to do this one thing. Stunning.
it was, she was built in the late 70's, I had the fortune of being on the deck in the 80's.
*BUT* This is the SA Agulhas II :)
Nice drone footage.
The ice that hides behind the hills....
Icebreaking where its only you that it's cold too
If they keep up breaking it’s up we will lose the shelf, is that what they are trying to do so they can say it’s melting?
So that's what the sky looks like when they are not pumping pollutants into it and chemtrailing us to death..... to bad most of us will never see something so beautiful in person, at least in this lifetime.
That IS something amazing to see!!
Comento sin saber pero si nosotros rompemos las pocas clavas de hielo que se forman como queremos que crescan los glaciares?
Nice video mate, thanks for sharing!
The video ended abruptly without showing us what happened to the breaking of that big mountain of ice.
I don't think they're breaking THAT. They broke the ice along the way to get there. That was a crane that lifted them on the shelf
Cool video. But looks like the ship get to that close was just for some transportation purpose, then why not just parking the ship in the nearby open water and using a helicopter?
The ship is bringing in lots of fuel, supply and heavy equipment that far exceeds the capacity of the Helicopter.
@@Emilgrims how far does the ice wall go around
04:53 I see they received their new electric snow mower.
nobody falls off the eadge, beautiful flat earth!
Why didn’t it just back out through the already broken ice?
Questions is who bring the cars there?
These car got flown from Cape Town to Novo runway, an ice runway with a cargo aircraft landing on wheels. This was in 2010. The cars are left standing outside during winter and only used from mid November to end January
what are they trying to find there
Ok , very impressive , but tell me, is the earth flat ? I havent been to space or antartica . But when I stand on the beach and look at the horizon I " think " I see the horizon tapering downward on my left and right . Or is this just something to do with my vision?
I,m not quite sure what you mean by " an ocean horizon is a flat circle " My question is simply this . If I am standing on the beach with my toes in the ocean , and I,m not changing my elevation . I am not climbing a ladder of any kind . I am totally stationary with my feet in the water . I am not moving up down or sideways to another location . I AM STATIONARY WITH MY FEET IN THE WATER . When I look at the horizon it does seem to dip , ever so slightly mind you when i turn my head slightly to the right and to the left.Obviously the horizon dead in front is closer to me than the left and right extremities. But both left and right are lower . Thus making me feel that we do live on a ball. When I look to my right or left that point I,m looking at is further away , but right and left do dip
but it's round, not a flat plane.
Seriously, let's not get pedantic, my point is it *isn't* flat but spherical. *SFMH*
Well I’m guessing there is plenty of ice if they are there breaking it up
Is that oil from the ship. All the ice broken up is brown
I love ships, like everything about ships, submarines, the coolest machines. But I have weak vestibular ^^. I will never gonna became a cosmonaut TT
दूनिया का कोनसे हिससे मे आया है यहि विसतार जरा बताइये ?
Imagine finding a Jaeger there
ICE wall
what a talent dudes
Decent drone footage. You will get better
So beautiful and pristine I just don't see why humans need to even be there. Oh yeah it's all in the name of science I forgot 100.000 scientist every year doing the exact same thing. Crazy...
The Antarctica ice ring spans a whopping 70,000 miles completely encircling the flat earth we live on. 1000 miles beyond the ice shelf rises a majestic mountain range of some 14,000 feet, extreme weather conditions of 100+ mph winds and -90 degree temperatures have prevented further exploration into or across this no mans land mountain range. What wonders remain to be found on the other side of this impregnable barrier is a subject of speculation and imagination!
+Seavoyager45: .... Elvis is alive and goats can tapdance because I saw it on RUclips!
Seavoyager45 , no it doesn't. There is no ice ring.
How can you be sure?
Richard M , well in my almost 31 years of working on ships crossing every ocean on this planet, from north to south, east to west , I have never run into one. Never seen one. Nobody that I have ever worked with has seen one let alone ran into one. I have probably been on every square inch of ocean out there. Now surely in almost 31 years of Trans ocean maritime travel and shipping career, I would have ran into one at some point. Where this giant ice ring is I don't know, but it's nowhere on earth . As a matter of fact nobody has seen it. Surely one of these guys could go find this ice ring since it is supposed to surround this flat earth and take a picture of it. Oh but thats right it is being guarded by hundreds of thousands of armed military from all the different countries, that are in on this cover up to keep us from knowing that the earth is flat. just say that if by some how this magical ice ring is out there, how would that work as far as holding the ocean in. Ice floats on water, so wouldn't the water flow right under it and fall off of this flat earth? Sometimes it's the little things that these guys don't think of when they come up with silly stuff like this. Nope, there is no ice ring. Nest story, just not true.
Damn, these facts have shattered my illusions! Oh well, it was nice to dream.......I guess I just wanted a little bit of magic to escape the harsh realities of life.
Why don't they use missiles ..bombs for clearing path....But really it is seems to be very very beautiful, courageius, fearless task and adventurous job..
Wow look how Beautiful blue that sky is ,!!! , no chems there
Brett Malerich it's fake it's CDI computer animated you're not even real people it's like watching a video game if you believe this you're as ignorant as you can get no offense
if you keep going for 2 more miles you will fall down, because earth is flat!!!
Brett Malerich no chems because they don’t exist
What were they measuring at the end of the video?
This is Ground Penetrating Radar used to study if there are cracks in the ice shelf, if there is a risk that the ice shelf will break off. This was not the case the end of the ice shelf seams very stable from what we could see. The thinner see ice which the icebreaker goes through is formed during winter but melts during summer
Emilgrims I see. That makes sense
What is the purpose?
My question. Why do they break ice?
how else are they going to get through it? You want they should get out and run across it?
What are those purplish liquid?!
Nice video
The ice has been accumulating there for millions of years and you just broke it. How savage.
What’s the guy at the end of the video doing??
Maybe the polar caps wouldn't melt so fast if you weren't soaking it diesel engine exhaust and smashing it up like that?
That almost looked fake. Like a video game or something. .. Was that real?
the best animation i have ever ..............
Did yousee edge of dome?
why they breaking ice??
Everybody talks about the melting of antartica. Why do they brake the ice? That's why it melts.
Tolis Gs You need to clear a ship channel for safe passage.
richard vaughn no ships pass over the north pole except for these guys. And we have shipping lanes all around the world that don't need to be cleared of ice
Blue Sifer Since when was Antartica at the north pole?
The north pole is between canada and russia.
Gonna need a bigger boat!!
Arrgh.. Ya beat me by a year. :D
great!
Great video would be better with audio though
Pero vieron el domo si o no??? Y como es posible que esten allí? No que las fuerzas armadas vigilan y no dejan
Where is the army that shoots at you for going this far?
Hew you think they work for they are not regular citizens
Man vs Nature: The Road to Victory
And there is part of the ice wall that everyone thinks doesnt exsist
why are you breaking the ice
Trying to avenge the titanic I see
This ship is as strong as an ox.
He's got a lot of mowing to do in the last bit lol
Camera man please get down and push the ship
think about this, and forget about one little ship would destroy a whole continent..man, all of those guys are working out side down!!..
for people who say there is no global warming. please tell me why ? and if there is no global warming, why all news and governments say that is exists.
please give me logical reason
Two simple words: Political Power.
nice
Que es lo que están haciendo ?
Why do they break the ice like wat purpose does it serve
Exactly...
What r these Foolish Idiots trying to show? Rise in sea level is partially due to these Mother fuckers & there ignorance of its impact on nature.. Bastards...
where does all that fresh water come from for them massive icebergs in a place with hardly no rain fall per year.
I cant hear any sound Then read below The uploader must have muted the Vid
does this process makes melting of ice fasten?
No....But global warming does.
Awesome
Is this so the ice melts faster?
Why breaking the ice? On what purpose?
Probably bringing supplies to the people on the continental ice shelf. It is summer, after all.
surely breaking up the ice is helping it melt?
Looks like ants activity in my freezer..
Why do they break the ice don’t the wild life depend on that ice
The ignorance in the comments here is astounding.
Tank Soldier Its nothing to laugh at. Our "race" ain't that intelligent. Just be happy your not one of the sheeple.
The wall just got ten feet taller!
See New York, only when 'Sandy' hit they finally started to do something. Diverting their shares, selling oil shares and investing in green energy, actually taking legal actions against big oil as they knew since decades and fooled the world. Nevertheless, the merchants of doubt are still active, no need to prove anything, just seeding doubt to the sheep.
Where do you live? Close to the coast line? You might have sweet and wet dreams ... sooner than you think.
hines862009 at 155 thousand a month coming in, it needs to be only 10 feet tall. Mounted with automatic 50 caliber Gatling Guns. The “HYDRO 5000XR”. They shoot 500 50 caliber bullets a second. Mow them all down and fired properly, they cut bodies in half. Little kids????? Lol turns them into little pieces of brown shit turd balls.
That damn squirrel........
Amazed by the intelligence in this comment section, my brain hurts.
KILL ME NOW
Too close to the edge.. Turn around. Falling off the edge, i guess you will keep falling forever???
perfectly flat horizon, where is the curve🤔
*** Nice ***
Nice
Even waterways need maintenance. #traderoute
Amazing!
So the Ice is being broken up? Its not braking up on its own?
The thinner see ice which the icebreaker goes through is formed during winter but melts during summer.
ICE WALL.. not iceshelf
Why?
