- In this week's vlog, I'm showing the hectic behind the scenes of me moving to the english countryside by myself!! :) I've been living in the city centre alone in an apartment, but decided to leave it all behind to live a quieter lifestyle in a cute lil english village close to my family. I'll be showing you the tour of my new house, packing up my life in boxes, moving my pets, and all the in between!

Oh no Megan! Why didnt they clean up the rental for you? I thought that was mandatory. Is it different in England? I wish you could ask to have some rent reduced (at least for the first month) for having to do all that yourself. Are you closer to Grandad now? Im so proud of you! You really are doing big things. Sometimes when you've already signed off on everything they don't do it and don't have to cause you're already under contract. After that it's really just about if they care about their reputation

You did not deserve to have to clean up the previous tenant’s gross smoke grime. I hope this is not an indication of the kind of landlord you have 😤 But anyway, I’m happy for you that you’re getting settled into a new place and I hope you love it there. yeah if she is renting it is meant to be cleaned for the next tenant depending if she has a private landlord but if its agency then the floors should of been cleaned and the oven ect. its just wrong other wise

I had the same situation here in Europe. Old private owner to had a cheap large place to rent to that allowed animals. They did not charge a deposit which is rare but i had to deal with the same shit.
I can’t believe you have to clean and paint the new place! That’s the owner job! That’s not fair!
Girl...figure out how much professional cleaning and paint and prep costs pre-rental and deduct from rent. Pretty shocked you have to do all that...Love the trip.

I moved to the countryside after finishing uni, too - and I never looked back!! I am SO happy for you, you'll absolutely love it! The fresh air, the beautiful nature, and oh my god, the quiet.. the silence. I've never slept so well in my life. No light pollution, no noisy upstairs neighbour playing music at 2 am. I lived in Copenhagen for 6 years while studying at vet school, and while I loved the city I never quite settled.. Finished uni and moved out here. Never regretted it for a second. And you get so much more housing for your money out here too! Best of luck to you Megan!
Yes you are right that is the nicotine from the smoke. I grew up in a household with both paretn5that smoked and its so gross we constantly smelled like smoke i hated it i never smoked and would never smoke so my son doesnt have to grow up like i did 💙
I used “Kilz” paint primer which is a stark white barrier paint that won’t let smoke come through in scent/discoloration/or water droplets in bathrooms. A complete color and cigarette tar neutralizer. Then you can paint whatever color over it or have as is! It will most likely be pricier then regular primer but if you need help, finding, shipping, etc., let me know 👍🏻

For reptiles (pets)… I’m not sure how the heat works in your new place but if you put them in a separate room with an air purifier and removable door stripping to let no chemical air get in… then place them in the most used part of the house when the paint is dried and air is clean, and paint the spare room then 👍🏻

IDK about reptile safe paint, but I think there may be low-fume paint. When I do reptile room cleaning/disinfection I put my buddies in a closet with a towel under the door. You could do that. Or, you can build them a taped off tent section with some plastic paint tarps, taped around a cracked window so the fumes can't get in but they can still have fresh air circulating. After 24 hours the paint will be cured and your buddies should be fine to go back into the room. Set up some box fans pointing out the remaining windows to pull the paint-air out of the house. I have a Veiled cham and this is how I would handle it if I needed to paint the house again.
Surely that should be up to the landlord to deep clean before you move in? What a cheek

The landlord didn't have that place scrubbed top to bottom before letting you move in? Oh, no baby! You need a refund for the first month at least and some of your safety deposit back. You should not have to clean like that! But congrats on the new place. I know you'll make it look bomb. ❤

The best is left over pizza. Yep my parents use to smoke when i was young and everything was covered in that yellow stuff, walls and ceiling. Congratz on moving. Hope your having lots of fun settling in. Looking forward to more vids

Some landlords don't let you decorate I asked if i could wallpaper and she said she'd rather I didn't - but I am very lucky that the whole house was newly plastered and painted and the carpets were clean so can't complain

It's so weird how different countries are. Where I live people who move out (either for rent or by selling) are responsible to thoroughly clean the place after them, or else you could be financially liable. Many people do it themselves, others dont wanne deal with the hassle and rent cleaning services (who has a spesial price and service called "moving out wash"). I'm chocked over how dirty this place is left.

Is that damp on the walls? I lived in a bungalow that had a serious mold problem it stressed me. I had to move out cos my daughter was always sick

Is your granddad going back to Canada for just a visit . Bless you for staying so happy and positive through the move/ cleaning. That’s very unfair you’ve had to do that! It should have been cleaned for you before you moved in . Looks like it’ll be a perfect place for you once your all settled in 🥰
for repainting your walls, would you consider using self-adhesive wall paper? they have a ton of colors or patterns if that's something you like. I've seen a lot of renters use that because it's way more affordable, quicker and not permanent so it's very renter friendly
😂😂 my first day I moved in to my apartment I was beat- and someone had a fire from cooking in their apartment and the alarms were on for ever. So my toddler and I sat outside in the winter snow the whole time. My heart is with you 😂

I'm so happy for you moving to the country! Yes, that nasty residue is from smokers....we bought a house in the past and everything had that residue on it a d the walls and doors all tinged yellow/brown. So long to clean, but pretty simple. But for a rental they should have cleaned before you moved in! I hope everything works out in your new place! I click on every one of your videos so fast as soon as they are posted, and I never want them to end haha 💗

You should 100% not have to do any cleaning or renovating in a rented property. You should definitely get in touch about that because the landlord is responsible for that stuff.
