l let go of my addiction to novelty. I realized I had cluttered my whole life with novel objects and they are not benefiting me so....I let them go. 2 van loads of knick knacks, vintage dodads and an uncomfortable number of baskets all released and given to charity. Thanks for the support and inspiration your journey has given others like me.
I let go of spending $175 every 10 weeks to keep my hair colored and highlighted. I finally got the courage to accept my beautiful sparking gray hair and it's been a very freeing experience.
Kathy Haynes you probably have a ton of money as a result, huh?
grey hair is beautiful!!!!
@@ganesanviswanathan6808 Honestly, I agree. Grey hair really isn't bad at all, it's just different.
I'm loving these daily living room conversations. Keep them coming please!
Since I started the minimalism journey back in September, I got rid of my mom's hoarding past. And it feels sooooo good! 😁
After watching your documentary my husband realized how many things we hold on to. I personally let go go of most of my clothes almost 75% of it. Also because I had a baby recently my body has changed so I have bought some new items but I made sure they will all be used and make me happy. My husband let go of some old clothes that brought memories to him. He let go of about 50% of his wardrobe. I feel so much lighter!!! After my semester is over, I am going to declutter all of my house because it just gives me anxiety to have too much. I never realized how that affected me until I watched the documentary. Thank you Minimalists!! 💕
"You are the people that are in your life." - I spend a lot of time with you and Ryan, and I feel that you are a considerable part of my life these days. Thank you.
I know this post was 2 years ago, but I started watching you guys about 4 months ago. I have gotten rid of 30 bags of stuff, donated over 120 items to our community, among recycling and and giving crafts to local groups. I can't believe how much stuff we had! I was getting irritated being home all the time now and the house was always a mess. I can pickup in 10 or less minutes now and I am not yelling at the kids to clean up everyday. I have let go of the stress due to the mess!
I recently sold my dream car, a Jeep Wrangler. It was my second vehicle but I had said from the beginning of this journey that I would never get rid of it. I loved it. Now, I have a huge chunk of cash to put towards my debt. Love people, use things.
I love that last bit. Never heard that before.
G Edwards the “Love people use things” part?
I get so much out of these Living Room Conversations. Thank you 😊💁🏻♀️
So I just graduated highschool this past week. And for a while I haven’t been too happy with my wardrobe. Not that is huge or anything. It’s rather minimalist but I’ve had the same comfy style since 7th grade. Band tees and skinny jeans. While there is nothing wrong with that I do want to start dressing nicer. So while watching this I added 5 tee shirts and a pair of ratty vans to the donation bag.
Another thing is that when we die, we cannot take any of these things with us. My uncle died in January of this year and as my aunt was selling the house, she had to start cleaning and getting rid of things. My uncle held on to a lot of papers and things and my aunt was telling us how much work that was. It took over a month to fully clean their house a 3 story townhome. She left the state trying to start a new life and she told me to get rid of things instead of holding unto them because she knows how I get anxiety.
@Risosi1515...your aunt is wise to tell you that.
I read 'The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, How to Free Yourself and Your Family from a Lifetime of Clutter' by Margareta Magnusson earlier this year and after years of 'decluttering' I finally got serious.
And Marie Kondo's spark joy technique works well too....btw...my toilet brush didn't spark joy but a clean toilet does so I kept it until I freed some cash to get a new you beaut one to hang on the wall...NOW...it sparks joy.
And this article helped me to stop hanging onto stuff for my two girls...now I ask them, and others, if they want or need it and if the answer is no, off to the op shop, or in the bin it goes. I would say the 80/20 rule applies...80% of the time I don't ask now...even if it cost me a bomb. It's getting easier. www.forbes.com/sites/nextavenue/2017/02/12/sorry-nobody-wants-your-parents-stuff/#342d6c5224ed
Risosi1515 great advice. I think of this often as I'm cleaning. ✌💜
I have let go of my son's baby clothes and baby items. I have accepted he will be mine and my husband's only child. I feel so relieved from the stress and anxiety that I have felt for years. I feel that my minimalist journey will help me be a better mom and wife. Thank you for sharing these videos. They are very inspiring.
I let go of a lot of money. Does that count?
Reinis Miks depends what you brought does that thing bring you value.
Reinis Miks it does if it was holding you back!muahahaha!
I have 100+ items posted for sale on Poshmark. So far I've already sold 20.
Vanessa E-K Any advice. I have bought on poshmark but now want to sell. Could you give a new seller advice? Also is it worth the time....and can you get store credit. I love using poshmark to buy my old favorite clothes in brand new condition.
Alana Stanton Selling on Poshmark is really easy- post item info and pics, print shipping label, pack it up and drop in mailbox. They do take a cut, but it will be calculated when you set the price. The money will show up under your balance to either spend on the site or transfer to your bank account. I admit I always spend my balance on items I find on there, but I try to only shop when I have a balance from selling my items. I haven't shopped for clothes in a store at all this year, only pre-owned on Poshmark or Thred Up.
Finally allowed myself to let go expectations that I could repair all the mistakes of my past…and the process began to unfold, in realtime, as I was releasing most of the stuff I had gathered working to heal.
Would never have guessed how all that stuff was blocking my way forward…who knew?!
Thanks always.
I went from following 500 people on Instagram to 40 and I feel so good about it. I also stopped using Snapchat and FB and I feel not constricted and I feel free and relieved!! So now my only social media is really just Instagram which I rarely use
Books that I have read and probably won’t read again.... it was really tough and there are more I can pass on but I’m getting there....
I let go of 5 guitars and two pedals, one extremely sentimental guitar. I cried. I had it since 1984! My parents bought it for me (both are deceased). Ugh. It was like letting go of my childhood.
I was a wreck for much of the day beforehand, but once I got the 3k check in my hand, it was better. Now I feel that I can do the same to other instruments and gear that is just collecting dust. 😁🎸💲
I’ve recently let go of... most of my clothes & shoes, my impulse, negativity, fear & need for approval from others. Thank you god for minimalism.
I sold 90% of my stuff to get the $10,000 I needed to pay for my partner’s visa. I realised I wanted a life with the person I loved more than any object ❤️
Awww, That was really nice.
What a lovely gesture.
I hope everything works out for you both x
It is all right letting things go
if recycled correctly. Just buy
what you use and eat.
Yes, I think a lot of minimalist channels on youtube overall need to start talking about how to responsibly get rid of things. We cannot just rent dumpsters and throw everything into it
An issue is that they don't go into the "reuse step" of the process. It is much better for the environment to reuse things before "donating and recycling". Cut up old PJ's and use them as rags instead of buying aesthetically pleasing ones for example. MOST clothing we donate cannot be resold in charity shops and are sold in bulk to Africa so they can resell it for money (not benefitting those in need) if I doesn't sell in the end in Africa it's burned.
Listing things for sale everyday. Started letting go about a year ago. I let go of a job that was toxic. Hanging in limbo right now. :)
Raine Neko same I have a lot listed for sale looking to resign from my current job as it is no longer worth my time as we recently got taken over by a contractor and everyone just started showing their true colours. I am after this one of two jobs that are higher pay and more hours something my current job won't allow.
I let go of 80% of my clothing (so far). I did a big purge and I am giving myself 90 days to see what I actually wear and will do another purge. I was hanging on to clothes I wore in highschool.. I'm turning 30 this winter.. 😣 I have ADHD and I went undiagnosed for most of my life. Only this past year did I realize that my hoarding and impulsive spending was related to my ADHD. I am working on letting go of all of the stuff that has been a huge weight on me for the majority of my life. I have the truck loaded up to donate in the morning. I also went through a large chunk of the bins I have moved around with me for the past ten years and filled the truck and donated that last week. I can feel the clouds lifting from my brain and the weight in my chest in getting lighter. Thank you for the inspiration and thank you for making these videos and your podcasts. They have helped me a lot and I really appreciate it.
Thanks so much for sharing all of this!
I have recently let go of my job, and I am in the process of letting go of another more volunteer like commitment, I am letting go of my apartment and moving into a smaller room in a house with a friend, I have let go of tons of paper and books and clothes and coffee cups and plants...!!!
I am in the process of looking for new homes for some of the things, and it’s happening.
And while I was watching this, I got distracted by a phone call or something and while I was at it cleared the recent history on my phone. Meaning I can’t see who I have talked with and what time I talked with them and how many times in the last few weeks. I’ve gotten into doing that recently, I would never have thought of even doing that a while ago. Isn’t that cool! Another area with clear space that does good. 💗 That’s really what it’s about, is doing what feels better and keeping what inspires and brings a smile. More about that than about whether I have let anything go. It’s just at this point I have had quite a bit to let go of! :-)
PS, a Takeaway food for thought for me is what you said about journals. The one area that I have not yet sorted out, basically following con Mari, is the last one, sentimental items. I intend to do that before moving out of this apartment! Which means maybe today. I have a whole wicker suitcase thing filled with journals and others that don’t fit in it. When I pull that out, I get to decide…! You are right, I have not looked back at it. Sometimes I have thought I would like to write a book of my memoirs of my life, it’s very interesting and some people ask about it sometimes… And I’ve thought it would be nice to have old journals to use for that, or to show my kids which I don’t yet have... But actually I think that living now, and if I ever write a book, then speaking from my heart in the moment, using whatever from my life history is currently applicable, is probably the most powerful and effective and fun thing to do. ...
I live in a van and still keep dropping donations in those boxes around town. Let some extra shoes and a old iPod with all my fav songs on go this week.
I “let go” (sold) of my 1730 sq ft condo; it no longer brings me immense joy. It became a “ball and chain” ( an impediment). I’m seeking “the warmth of other suns” (traveling). And I have no idea why I expressed most of this in metaphors with interpretations .🤷🏾♀️😂
i hace recently let go of toxic friendships
I got rid of over 150 books, 90% of my closet, 80% of my beautyproducts... and went vegan. Thanks to the inspiration from you. I feel so much better. Greetings from Germany.
My old iphones, dating back to 4s to 5. And also ipods, ipod cases.
I sold a fancy standing kitchen mixer that is used once a year, if that. I procrastinated because it was a gift from my husband. He wasn’t overly happy with me until he realise how much it sold for and I also bought him dinner with some of the proceeds 😊
Sydney Mel wow. And those aren’t cheap either. But at the end of the day, if you’re truly very barely using it, then it’s time to part from it.
Can tell you are enjoying making these videos hope you continue .
love this channel!
Jacob Ba omg!! Me too ... I WAIIIIIIIT for my daily fix🙋🏾♀️🤗
I got rid of some clear, see through jelly boots that I bought 5 years ago and have never worn 🤷🏻♀️😂
Does anybody else carry around a stone? I didn’t realize until this video that I’ve had a rock from a local beach since 4th grade. I have no idea why.
I've moved twice across the country (with my husband and kid) and I remember the first time we moved we needed the second to largest u-haul for three people. I was insistent that I needed all my stuff, including an entire utility room full of boxes that had remained unopened for years. Once we got to our new home those boxes went to the basement (unopened) and over the three years that followed the basement became full of boxes. We had so much stuff, knick knacks, things that really made me dislike our space. It always felt unorganized, messy and stressful. The year before we moved again I went through those basement boxes and donated everything that wasn't trash. I went through my closet which was full of more small "memory boxes" and knick knacks, went through 500-ish books, and donated and gave away what I no longer "needed". Since our second move our possessions have decreased even more. I let go of momentos I was convinced I needed to remember things, more books were donated or sold (still have a hard time with my books, not accumulating, but letting go of what I have) and our home is much easier to maintain and pleasant to be in. Also, being more minimal finally allowed me to start improving my eating habits, which were terrible. My unhealthy diet was really affecting my quality of life, being excessively exhausted, being told I was in danger or fatty liver (not even from drinking, just from being fat) high heart rate, among other things. I'm 47 pounds down so far since February and feeling so much better than I have in years. Minimalism is seriously one of the best things I've ever incorporated into my life.
I really enjoy this series. It's honest and interesting. Also you're very appreciative of other people's answers.
I'm currently moving to a new place and got rid of at least 25 Boxes of stuff, probably more. Even sentimental items that moved with me from one place to the next in years, although I never used them or even looked at them. It feels great and I have the feeling, that this is only the beginning. I hope to get rid of 50% of the stuff I bring to my next flat by the end of the year.
Also me and my girlfriend are putting a lot of shared items in storage. We agreed to only unpack the items that we actually want to use when we finally get a new place together again and let go of everything else. I'm looking forward to that.
By the way: I drives me a bit crazy that the brightness of the footage changes all the time. Maybe try to set the setting to manual tomorrow? ;)
I let go of 3/4 of my wardrobe, shoes, candles, mementoes from holiday destinations, outdoor furniture, fold up chairs, bike helmet, books and tinned food. And now I have only the things that I value, and will use joyfully!
I recently went through my whole house. I got rid of so much stuff. So much of it was just rubbish. I took 4 bags to the op shop (thrift store) and now I have a box under my bed that I add things to, as I find them. When its full I will take it to the op shop. I seem to look at everything with different eyes now and am still finding things that I no longer need. I have whole shelves in wardrobes that are empty and feel like the things I do have now have space to breathe.
my youth.
:) Hooray for invisibility!
thanks for this Josh.
I let go of some of my books...which is very hard for me, I love my books. So that was good. I got rid of 3 bags of clothes and I shredded a bunch of old papers today! I'm very pleased. I am a new subscriber and I am enjoying your channel. I also loved your book.
In the past few weeks, I've cleaned out my entire room and let go of about 5 full trash bags of stuff that I no longer used or wanted
I let go of insecurity.
I recently got rid of an old laptop I hadn’t used in...3 years that I’d been storing. Needed to get some pictures off first but just sat down to do it and it was done in 15 minutes. The nice part about living in a city is you put something outside and someone will take it super fast. Also, I played the minimalism game in April but gonna do it again in August. Should be interesting cuz the first time I got rid of things that had no business being in my house after a move. Also love learning about the nurdle 👌🏻
I let go of some aspirational things. The cookbooks that were going to make me a better hostess. The dinner set for that party I would host making recipes from the cookbooks.
I let go of two large bags of clothes and books today, sold my and my partner's bikes, and am daily letting go of the desire for " things" so that I can make room for the "things" that matter. Love the daily conversations! Thank you
clothes I haven't worn, some with the tags still on! makeup,swimsuits.. feels good!
I'm doing a lot of different items at the moment but instead of using social media and tv I've been sorting my digital photos on different devices and getting them into the cloud, deleting irrelevant or blurry or duplicate photos. I now realise I've been taking too many photos and I plan on cutting back so I don't have to delete and organise so many! ... soo many food photos or 5 of the same scene and screen shots of information I don't use.
I also plan on scanning and sorting my older printed photos soon.
I’ve let go of the expectation of how I think something should be and accepted it for what is actually is. (Mainly when events are outside of my control).
I have gotten rid of sooooo much in the last couple of days... of EVERY ONE... you two have inspired me the MOST !!! I think what did it was ... you would show up to help ONE PERSON!!! Thanks you guys ... I can literally feel my mood changing !!!! It’s weird , I consider myself a “happy black chick!!!” But OMGGGG ... I feel amazing !!! I am scared of letting go of “certain things,” but I know eventually , I will🤗
I let go of a coffeemaker that I never used. I didn’t actually let go of something else that I needed to let go of, 90 signed indie books by various authors I have met since 2014 at book cons. But I did pack them up in a plastic bin for protection. I am having trouble letting go of them because of the memories and expense I put into it. Hopefully, some day I will let them go. I have moved onto a different phase in my life and it doesn’t bring me joy at the moment. I am really slow at this minimalist thing, but I am getting rid of things little by little. Which does feel really good.
MK Murphy that is wonderful 👏🏻👏🏻 it is hard to let go of things. My in laws have a house full of things that they don’t use but hold on to it because of memories. It gives me anxiety when I’m in their house because of the amount of things they have. I think I might make them watch the Minimalist documentary and hope they start letting go of things.
I have a few signed items from comic cons. I will not get rid of them because I'm reminded of the specific memories connected to them . Just to point out if I didn't have a disability that drained memories then I would probably be doing the same as you . But the majority of things I own I am planning to get rid of because I have no worthwhile memories attached to them.
really trying to let go of my fear of spending money
Here's a question regarding minimalism in media consumption and usage (don't worry, I'll always include you guys). The current political climate engages and enrages me. I feel like I need to distance myself, especially regarding social media, but also feel an imperative to stay engaged and involved. How do I let go enough to free needed energy for personally important matters without being negligent or feeling negligent in my political media consumption and engagement. It feels like if I let go, the ones I disagree with will win.
Where can we find your latest documentary? I've watched the one on Netflix multiple times - AMAZING JOB!
Our toaster! I hated the extra clutter and cleaning, the grill does the trick just fine....it feels great!
Joshua:. Thank you for teaching the 90/90 Rule.
Because of this new to me concept:
Letting go of a Courant toaster oven from my Daddy, who has passed away.
I don't need it because my Mom is moving in and bringing a new Air Fryer. ❤️💕💓
The toaster oven will go to a garage sale of a neighbor which blesses a ministry 🙌.
I let go of many clothing items. Funny thing was, I tried on several pairs of pants when I was going through all my clothes and realized that I hardly fit the items I was getting rid of.
Kidney foundation comes Tuesday. They’re getting 4 industrial sized trash bags full of clothes from me, my mother, and younger brother.
A job that was holding me back from the future that I truly wanted for myself.
I had a lot of old cables and my old Laptop. Wiped the Laptop and get rid of it as well as most of the cables. Also a lot of documents from my collage courses, never looked at them after i finished university.
Thursday I let go of my senior yearbook and kindergarten through fifth grade class photos. I took some pictures and will make a blog on my site More Than a Lesson to thank those teachers. This was a hard let go but worth it.
It helps me to think about a person enjoying and getting value out of the object that I let go.
I switched fields. I got a BA back in 2009 and now I'm working on my AS in the healthcare field. I was clearing out binders, to avoid buying more, and came across old handouts from about 10 years ago from my study abroad in Japan. I have very fond memories of that time and still love languages, but I decided to recycle all the paper.
I let go of a trunk full of books - they went to a children’s day care center as they had a book fair yesterday and all the earnings go to the center to buy new things for their garden, so the kids can enjoy it. It hurt to let the books go, but on the other hand I fell much lighter and my book shelves look much nicer and cleaner, even though I still have many books.
I’ve been working full time for over a year and I’m about to take 2 weeks off. Of the many things I want to do over the next 2 weeks I want to declutter my belongings. I rent a room and when I moved in everything I owned at the time fit in my car. I no longer have my car and instead have a scooter. But there are so many things that I’ve bought over the years for the life I want instead of the life I have and it’s time to let go. Let go of the idea that (example) one day I’ll pick up adult colouring again, or one day find the time. But mainly accept that I spent the money and it’s gone. And letting go of the regret of buying it in the first place so I can let go of the stuff.
I’m going thru my house and sending so, so much back into the universe..at 65 I have lots to send out. Not because I’m wealthy, but I’ve been collecting stuff for a long time. What is the best way to get rid of stuff? Where will it do the most good in the world. Most doesn’t belong in the dumpster. I have some nice vintage items. Do you know where or how to sell these?
Did you make or purchase your bookshelf? I have noticed it in your LR chats and it seems like a great shelf for books. My husband said idk how it stands up.
I've been on a declutter frenzy lately. I got rid of jewelry, clothes, shoes etc. Also, you know the plastic bands that you get when you are admitted to the hospital? I had those from when I gave birth to both my sons and they are now 32 and 28! 😁 I even had hair from there first haircuts. 😉
Thank you for your living conversations, helps me daily to live a lighter happier life :-)
Thank you for saying loving from a far. This is vital for my main family (husband and children) to be safe and peaceful.
I stopped playing hockey almost 4 years ago and have regretted it. I recently gave up my hockey boots and with it the regret, my trying to be the person I used to be and the false belief that I would somehow someday begin playing again. I accepted that I'm not that person anymore and started focusing on who i am and who my future me is.
Lots of school notes from high school and some from college I might use just in case.
Did the 30 day challenge now starting my 4th round! Got rid of large items from the piano that realistically I ‘m never going to learn to play to small items books, pens, kitchen items! Even better I got NO actual birthday presents last week but theatre tickets, cinema tickets and a spa day!
Recently decided to let go of the tile i had left over after my backsplash project.
Hey Joshua, am Julie Achieng from Kenya. Am curious to know your take on framed photos and quotes as part of home deco. Apologies of you had covered that during your IG home tour, the video stopped quite early on.
There are programs that take old trophies. When i got into college, I donated all my high school running trophies to a group that refurbishes them for underfunded schools. I never have to store them and I knew they went to another student that would enjoy them
Question:
What would be your best piece of advice be to someone who struggles with hoarding?
Tracy Bryant thank you...that’s a good two cents!
Sell ur stuff at carousell. Half price drop every mth. Once drop to $1, throw.
A Hoarder's Heart
As a former hoarder and with a long history of a family and a culture that hoards, I got rid of 75% of my stuff .
I saw lots of RUclipsrs doing Kon Marie . It’s a great way to once in for all take care of clutter . Then later you can start to really minimize even more . It’s a journey like losing weight and once you lose it you do have to maintain it .
I always became messy as I had too much stuff and maintaining it was difficult. Now I only have the stuff I love . Both my mirrored closet doors fell on me one day . I then never wanted to have that happen as I over flowed my closet.
I donated all the stuff to charity daily as I decluttered each category. I did not sell I just wanted it out of the way . I also texted friends and family of certain items they might have wanted . I never miss anything and don’t ever want to be in that place again .
My room is clean in 5 Min . I don’t have a specific item of numbers i just keep what I use . On occasion I do go through things again to make sure I only have what I use .
If hoarding is an issue .. think how easy it will be ... watch declutter RUclips videos.... put things away for 6 months and then see
The22726 ppl often think Kon Marie is crazy for thanking the item , but it’s just appreciation and we should be grateful for everything we have but we should feel good to bless it to someone else .
Lashlove16 thank you so so much for taking the time to write this! I have been watching lots of videos on minimalism and I did just come across konmari method! It was actually the minimalist’s documentary that really inspired me to beat this. I keep imagining my rooms as being clean and take baby steps towards cleaning. The emotional attachments slow me down...but I am getting some victories!! Right now I’m just a sponge ready to soak any knowledge that comes my way! Thank you for your encouraging words!!
Cool bookshelf..:-)
just went through all my childhood art projects that my mom saved and got rid of like 90% of them!
I let go of the fear of missing out. Just because I usually went to the art openings or the thurs jam sessions or the mon, sat sessions of potluck jam sessions does not make me committed to always do so.
I let go of a complete bookshelf of books I've read and a closet full of knives I've collected over the years and never used. It's ridiculous what we hold onto. Atb Sean
I let go of some clothes donated them I am doing a capsule wardrobe I let go of Christmas decor last year but my husband wants a tree again this year lol so we probably will but we are just doing a small tree and native American nativity not going all out this year with Christmas decor it's a big change for me I grew up with a lot of lots of Christmas decor but my husband and I are doing less decor and hopefully more giving.
I’ve been working on minimalism for about 10 mths. I feel like I’m doing fairly well with everything I’ve gotten rid of. How many tops and bottoms do you feel like is a reasonable amount to own? I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and work. So I trying to find a balance of items. I still find myself spending a lot of time doing laundry and I hate it. I am trying to own the least amount as possible within reason
I like this one the most! I have temporarily let go of the idea of taking a college course to take care of my elderly cat's vet bills. Some people tell me that a cat isn't worth it, but he's been with me for 17 years and there's no way I wouldn't take care of him to the very end. As for that end, when he's no longer happy and comfortable in this life, I'll have to let go of him too.
Love your inspiration
When do you decide the throw something away versus donate?
My VHS collection - 800 tapes! A bunch of audio tapes and vinyl. Sports trophies, a shelf full of books, skateboards, toys... Most importantly: I have let go of the need to sell items that I paid good money for. Accept, cut my losses, donate, and move on.
Gave away lots of household stuff and decorations to move to Texas. After 2 months moved back and left everything with our son but our clothes and coffeemaker and a few ither things. Moved into our apartment, started with nothing. Now we have just the essentials and are careful what we bring into our home. It's better this way because we have a limited income that is very small.
did u sell ur expensive dress shoes? if so, through what platform?
Some more clothes, one pair of shoes, 2 old book bags, working on getting rid of the few last nickknaks... I'm getting down to the point where I really have to think about what I don't need!! I'm planning on having 1 or 2 small boxes at home with belongings that I don't want to lug around with me for the rest of mylife. I'm going to college, so I'm taking this large change to really think about what I own, use and get joy out of 😊
My question would be: Other than giving things away, do you also share the things you one with others and vice versa. E.g. sharing a waffle iron or sports equipment with your neighbour so you don't both need one. Or borrow books from friends? Do you actively let people know they can borrow from you, or do you only have stuff you use daily yourself?
I let goof some t shirts and im retting rid of some more decor items this week. I had a big, huge declutter about 2 years ago and since then my life has transformed. And I am quitting alcohol for a while to see if I may enjoy myself more without it😘😍
Over the last few years on 3 occasions I’ve let go of about a dozen boxes of stuff to The Salvation Army, then I sold close to half my stuff & my car a little over a year ago, then gave away a pick up truck bed full of stuff to another charity to sell; now I’m housesitting with very few belongings with a 10x10 storage locker full of stuff that I’m about to dissect down to a few essentials (at least in half down to no more than a 5x5 storage unit) & free-cycle everything then donate the rest to The Salvation Army. There’s a few items still for sale, as well as informational stuff I could toss that will be dissected later (paperwork & books) that will further lighten my load as my final wave of clutter clearing into a breathable life weight. #Maximum_Living_with_Minimal_Stuff
i got rid of my extensive collection of books. i now have them on a kindle so that even though i am a lover of books and cant find myself to let go of them, i now have a calmer mind set knowing my house isnt cluttered with books
I’m in the process of letting go of all of the antiques and stuff that I have been left. It’s not a treasure, it’s a burden. It reminds me that dad was never home because he was working three jobs to buy Royal Doultons for my mum who never actually wanted them. Next I plan to let go of the hurt that I feel when I remember such things.
I have a question - I am in the middle of your awesome audiobook version of "Everything That Remains". In the book you talk about having no goals and how that has had a positive impact on your life. But in the podcast episodes you also often mention that you schedule things you want/need to do to make sure you do them. How is scheduling things different from having goals? For examplem, if I schedule that I will learn French everyday at 8pm for 1 hour, doesn't that automatically become a goal?

I’m playing the mins game this month and I’m about to let go of a hell of a lot of stuff!
I let go of a bag of clothes I knew I would never wear again and cleaned out my garage. It is spit spot!
Collections of vintage, antique kitchen and dinning ware…
I let go of a collection of dust in a box, with some figurines of the Universal Monsters in it... Gave it all to a friend who is an avid collector. These things had lost all meaning to me, but they sure added value to my friends life. One transaction, two happy people !
I let go of a Significant other relationship and two “friends” . These three people only came to me when they wanted my skills or stuff. I’d rather just give them the stuff and send them packing! I replaced them with a cat who gives me affection and her time.
